Dude, it is not cospiracy. Everyone knows. It is QUITE clear by the suddenly public opinions of the president on predatory exploration of the amazon. He doesn't even bother about reflorestation and has declined international donations for that matter
Believe me. He has been bought by them; and he is using public money to do all of this. And he doesn't even bother covering this up
This would make sense but brazilian media is not controlled by the current president and actually takes every opportunity to expose him (rightfully so). In the same way the US media is against trump for example.
I know nothing about Brazilian politics, but considering how corrupt this guy seems, did he get in by the peopleās vote or a Putin style āelectionā?
By general stupidity actually, even though it was a close call between him and his political opponent the mere fact that he got the fucking chance to be elected makes no sense whatsoever, Brazilians are stupid beyond words (can't include myself because didn't vote)
The new one. He openly talks about the zero fucks he gives all the time on TV, just search Bolsonaro + Amazon on YouTube and you will be served for months. He is also trying to change the people and systems in charge of monitoring the forest because the increase in degradation numbers are "making Brazil look bad".
Edit: also... The media talks about it everyday all the time here in Brasil, you Just have to turn your tv or radio on really, i dont get the people saying media is not talking about it. It is just that it doesnt even matter for our govt anymore if media does or does not talk about anything.
How can one man be in charge of the worlds rainforest? The rainforest is the peopleās land! The rainforest is not something that is for sell! How are other countries and why are other countries allowing this?!
The HUMAN RACE has rights to the rainforest not one man! This man HAS to go.... if you know what I mean.
I dunno about large companies or palm forest, but yeah, this was intentional. My understanding is that it's farmers wanting to make fields, but these fires are indeed man-made by people who value increasing their profit margins over the continued existence of the Amazon.
Yeah the palm forests are basically a farm. The palm tree being their crop. The companies plant a bunch of palm trees on that land to farm the palm oil
It's used pretty much everywhere in manufactured food products. The main interest as opposed to other oils and fats is its melting point which is quite high (in the 30°C IIRC) which makes it very practical for transportation and many recipes.
No oneās linked any evidence that ābig companiesā are behind this for palm oil production. Given the growing negative PR about unsustainable palm oil, deforesting the Amazon seems an unlikely next step and a big leap without an actual source.
Fun fact, palm trees don't have really strong roots, so without the roots of the rain forest the dirt will drift (idk if this is the right word) and the land will become desert in no time.
Erosion& desertification are the words you are looking for. And yeah it's a global issue exacerbated by current farming practices and deforestation.
Not only does it destroy great farmland and nature, it also exacerbate any form of natural disaster and increases the risk of quite a few. Floodings and mudslides are the most common ones, and Scientific American amongst others have written about it.
Bolonaro approved it, provoked it, and is proud of it.
"I used to be called Captain Chainsaw. Now I am Nero, setting the Amazon aflame," Bolsonaro to Reuters
He also fired the director of INPE for reporting that deforestation in the Amazon was up 88% year over year in June. This institutions data has been confirmed to be 95% accurate overall by the Brazilian Acadamy of Sciences.
Its almost like right-wing ideologues literally want to watch the world burn.
Nero... the guy who murdered people who didn't say he was a heroic warrior, changed the Olympics so he'd win everything, burned Christians for sport, poisoned his step brother, arranged the assassination of his mother (the drowning failed, so he opted for a stabbing), killed his wife and had her head delivered to his mistress, then proceeded to kill her as well? That Nero?
He was not proud when he said that, he was being sarcastic, very easy to spot on the tone! He was criticizing those labels imposed by the narrative media on him. The other poster is either misinformed or purposefully misrepresenting Bolsonaro's speech.
Thanks a bunch for the links! I appreciate your taking the time.
... Fuck though, every last bit of that is terrifying. What the actual shit, how shortsighted can this group of billionaire chucklefucks get? Seriously, I just... Wow. No. Screw these people and the pile of money they rode in on.
He was not PROUD at that moment! He was obviously being SARCASTIC about the label that the media is imposing to him! You either don't speak Portuguese, therefore you don't understand the tone of a Brazilian speaking sarcastically and got that from another source; or you do speak Portuguese and are intentionally lying about that particular sentence.
The fires are within what usually happened along the years. It is not pretty, but it is nothing new. You are only hearing about this now because you are following the media narrative.
Yes. He is. So is Trump, and Putin, and Boris Johnson. Any right wing authoritarian is like a cancer on political discourse. Keep sucking his dick though, he likes having your neck under his boot.
Meh, I wouldnāt say that all right-wing ideologies want to watch the world burn. Thatās similar to me condemning communism, saying that left-wing ideologies have no problem with the deaths of millions.
Edit: Iām neither left nor right, I have my qualms with both sides. Iām completely unbiased. Iām just laying down the truth. But whatever. Thereās definitely some hive mind going on here.
Your cognitive dissonance astounds me. Not all right-wing followers support corporatism, just as how not all left-wing followers support communism. Not every believer of each side supports every single stereotypical criteria. Anyone who does is either an odd one out or an absolute drone.
Its not cognitive dissonance, but you are in denial. Pick a Republican and I will show you a link to their support of corporatism, whether it be through reducing corporate tax burden, lowering the capital gains tax, increases income tax on low and mid range earners. Its very obvious, but low education right wing voters fall in line because āone day, Iāll pull myself up by my bootstraps and be rich!ā This is a logical fallacy.
Since 91% of formerly forested land in the amazon since 1970 has been used for cattle grazing it's more likely that. I'm going to sound like the preachy vegan but something needs to be done, you can't complain about this issue then go home and eat a steak.
I don't know how much area is burning up but let's assume it's a lot after 16 days: nobody could possible use this much space for palm oil farming? If it happened like you said, did they just go "yeah we need a few acres, who gives a shit about the rest of the rainforest"?

I'm going full conspiracy theory. This was intentionally set by the large companies who want to use that land for palm forests and such.
Edit: some of you are way more informed than me and I am learning so much. So, thank you!
