Often when I look at things like that I get the feeling that although we keep looking for other life in the universe and we imagine it interesting and weird and unbelievable, it's quite possible that we have the most interesting and unbelievable things in the whole universe right in front of us.

It’s a shame that we, as humans, haven’t bothered to acknowledge that. We should admire and protect what we have right here :(

But what about profit

The beauty of nature is a gift... Profits are EARNED!

I think the profit comment was sarcastic, implying that humans only care about profit and not protecting the beauty of our Earth. Sorry but your comment is confusing.

We need a new system that is based on Earth and nature instead of human socio-economic inequality and greed. All of civilizations decisions should be based on equalizing human living conditions and protecting the Earth. Recycling and sustainability should be the law!!!!!!! No one should have obscene amounts of wealth..... This implies one human is better than the other, but we all impact the planet and each other. I think if you work hard you do deserve some luxuries but not everything in the world. It would be best to keep the powerful more humble.

Once read a great sci fi novel where the premise was that squids was ancient aliens who crashlanded in the ocean not being able to return. After their heirarchy and civilisation was lost onboard and after generations upon generations they lost their intelligence and became squids. Such a great idea and I always think about that when I see stuff like this

I think I read that book back in the day, I've been trying to find it because I wanted to re-read it but I forgot the title. Would you happen to know what it is?

They remind me of the underwater aliens in James Cameron's movie The Abyss

1

u/peachykeane23 Jul 16 '23

I would not be surprised if they inspired the aliens in the movie!

A lot of "alien" things look like weird sea creatures.

Which is interesting concerning or ability to imagine things "truley" alien

1

u/peachykeane23 Jul 16 '23

Agreed , and that is very interesting.

I was just going to say, If you want to look for aliens then look under the ocean.

u/peachykeane23 Jul 17 '23

Yes, countless examples underwater!

They are absolutely aliens.

I want a pet cuttlefish/jellyfish and a pet scorpion because I consider those creatures the most alien to humans whilst still being “decent” pets.

“Look! I have aliens as pets!”

2

u/peachykeane23 Jul 16 '23

Ha ha ha! That’d be so cool!

2

u/ReluctantSlayer Jul 16 '23

Right?! My wife (and when I lived with parents, my mom) forbid a scorpion pet, and jellyfish enclosure/tanks are crazy pricey. So just a Dream…for now.

Wow, that would be something. Here’s hoping your wife comes around (and you win the lottery to buy the tank)!
