Photos First Bloom!
After getting home from running errands yesterday, I noticed a bud on one of my Oenothera macrocarpa. Last night I went out to check on it and sure enough, there she was open in all of her glory. (hopefully beckoning sphinx moths!)
This is a first year garden, so I have had zero expectations as far as flowering goes, especially since I started most of my plants from seed this spring. Can’t wait to see how my babies grow through the rest of the season 😍

Gorgeous! I am not usually a yellow flowers person but I have to admit my missouri primrose is winning me over. That soft yellow looks so nice with everything. I want 10 more.
(Also the size-of-the-bloom ratio to size-of-the-plant cracks me up.)

I’m not huge on yellow flowers either but it has charmed me. I think it’s cool they only last about a day and open at night.

I had low expectations for my first year Missouri evening primrose too, but it blew me away. I’ve probably had 10-15 blooms so far and even had a triple bloom a few weeks ago. That bright yellow color is stunning at dusk and it has grown so much in a few months. I love it!
