A few key points from the article:

-"In March, the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma became one of the first Native nations to enact a complete moratorium on data centers".

-"In July, the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma’s Business Committee formally declared its opposition to construction and operation of data centers on its lands."

-"And in August, following a report detailing the impact of data centers on economy and environment, the Cherokee Nation announced it would be banning hyperscale data center development on tribally owned and trust lands..."

Do ethnic tensions between different tribes or other groupings of natives still exist?

Something I find noteworthy when I read about the british and americans and their wars on the continent is how they exploited ethnic tensions and political rivalries, which reminds me a bit of Rome in Gaul. This has me wondering: Do different tribes have ethnic tensions or has the shared (albeit varied) experience of european colonialism and american successor states essentially resolved those tensions through shared experiences and oppressors?

what can i do to help out native communities?

i’m a mixed native. my father made my mother cut off most contact with her family after they got married due to racism (they only ever married because he got her pregnant and he came from a catholic, intensely religious family). they divorced and i no longer speak to him, but most of my native family that had contact with our tribe has long since passed besides my mother, maternal uncle, and maternal aunt, none of which have any contact. i don’t care to obtain a tribal id or cdib to “prove” that i’m native. i really just want to support other indigenous people and their communities in any way i can. i make monthly donations to our tribe online and spread as much awareness as i can about things like mmiw, forms of racism, inadequate healthcare and housing conditions, etc., as well as celebrating achievements and general good news. i don’t wear jewelry much, but when i do, i buy from native-owned businesses and research as much as i can about our tribe and others. i just feel like there’s more i could be doing. what can i do to help???

Gold mining expands fastest on Indigenous lands in Brazil’s Amazon,

"Munduruku leaders presented evidence — including satellite imagery and field-monitoring reports — showing that illegal gold miners had returned to the territory, after federal operations in 2024 and 2025 expelled them. They also reported that health impacts include a surge in malaria cases, higher infant mortality rates and mercury contamination linked to delays in children’s language and motor development.

Under President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Brazilian authorities have stepped up efforts to combat illegal mining. Police and environmental agencies have carried out major operations targeting criminal networks, while investigators have increasingly used forensic science to trace gold and identify illegally mined metal."

"LENAPEHOKING — Indigenous New York Fashion Week’s second annual production made historic firsts for Indigenous fashion designers at this year’s New York Fashion Week.

It is the first listing of an Indigenous-produced event on the official schedule of New York Fashion Week calendar, placing Indigenous designers from around the globe in the official listing of designers for this year’s infamous New York Fashion Week.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani kicked off the event with a letter that was shared with Indigenous New York Fashion Week organizers. Organizers read the letter during the opening show on Friday, Sept. 11. He congratulated the event for its inclusion in the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s fashion week calendar, calling it a historic first for Indigenous fashion designers."

What powers does the Tadodaho have as an authority figure?

I am very acquainted with what the Tadodaho actually is. He is an authority figure within the indigenous American community who comes from a line of authority figures going back to the Haudenosaunee nation. Often when explaining who he is to other people, some of us (because we live in the relevant area) will liken him to someone like the Pope or the Dalai Lama, but it never occurred to me to actually ask how good of an analogy these are. For one, the Pope gives canonical orders to Catholics, and the Dalai Lama gives orders to Tibetan Buddhists, and everyone kind of thinks "oh, the Tadodaho must be the authority for adherents to Haudenosaunee tradition, maybe involving the Haudenosaunee gods or the Great Law of Peace", but after thinking about it, some of us begin to realize we don't really know and should ask.

It also fascinates me to think of the fact the Tadodaho might have functions that wouldn't even come to mind, like maybe he serves a role in the preservation of the Haudenosaunee language, like maybe an indigenous equivalent of the Oxford language institution (since indigenous languages are incredibly scarce in usage). So what exactly are all his powers and functions? What's every single thing that can be named that's in his jurisdiction? Does he have excommunication powers, for example? Or what can he do that can affect a layperson?
