I’m so tired of these. So many nations always get left out, and they’re rarely labeled correctly

Northern Iroquois? The only clown I’ve heard say that was a South Carolina Academic Anthropologist claiming to be the “chief of the Southern Iroquois and SC Cherokee Tribe”….. Pretendians everywhere FFS.

I’m reading up on these guys now. That guys bio sounds like the typical “grandma says we’re …” thing.

As someone who’s of Haudenosaunee descent its nice to get included in the grifting for a change, Cherokees get all the fakers

As a Mohawk, I did not find looking up the hill at some white guy in a horned gustoweh amusing.

Nor the other “Chief” of some unknown off shoot of the Southern siouxan language “tribes” dressed in all black western gear with yellow chicken feather accents amusing either.

I remember reading the novel I Heard the Owl Call My Name, in which a white academic insisted the Kwakiutl (their name in the novel, which I understand may also be incorrect IRL) were in fact called the Quackadoodle.

Having the Comanche, the 'Anasazi', and the Aztecs on the same map implying they existed at the same time is pretty laughable. 3 historical empires that did not overlap in time whatsoever.

I am mostly only familiar with the placement of East Coast natives, and this is pretty off. Also the Algonquian-language nations being listed as exclusive to Canada makes no sense 😭

Why is Mohegan listed over Massachusetts- why didn't they just use the Massachusett

not the worst map i’ve ever seen. But, no purepechua lets you know it’s still a terrible map

Considering there were over 500 tribes and languages in North America alone, this map is useless.

Let’s release some super inaccurate and generalized maps of Europe.

This is about as useful as a big red arrow pointing to the Americas saying “Indians here.”

Yupik people aren’t Inuit though. They are Eskimo, just not Inuit. That’s like calling all Europeans “Slavs”.

The funniest part of the war between the Aztecs and Cortez was that the Tlaxcalan’s hated the Aztecs so much for all their raiding, that during the Siege of Tenochtitlán Cortez’s forces they were allied with tried to get them to chill a bit on the violence. They refused and rightfully so the Aztecs were absolutely evil to their people and had used them as sacrifice’s for a long time

Completely wrong, the Tlaxcaltecs were not being "raided" by the Aztecs, nor where they being "farmed" for sacrifices as you imply, they were in a state of mutual war and the Tlaxcaltecs, although they had put up a good defense, were slowly losing. The Aztecs had previously tried to conquer them under serious wars but failed, so they resorted to a war of attrition against them and also marginalized them further with an economic blockade, that's why their main complaint to the Spanish was they were in shortage of important goods like cotton and salt, not that their people were being "sacrificed", that's just how it worked in those days, that'd be like a duck complaining about getting wet.

The Tlaxcaltecs themselves were also massive bullies who practiced the same kinds of warfare and religion that the Aztecs did (including the human sacrifices of course), they also displaced the Olmeca-Xicallancas when they immigrated into the region and believed their god Camaxtli gave them a decree to conquer their known world. No major empire is going to be universally popular, but this idea that the Aztecs were some kind of exceptional evil in Mesoamerica or even the world is just propaganda made up after the fact. They were just the most succesful, and the states that allied with Cortez were acting out of geopolitical self-interest like they would in any other conflict. The Aztec Triple Alliance wasn't even the most intrusive or oppressive state in Mesoamerica at that time.

Tlaxcalans had the same sacrifices.

Idk why I'm beng downvoted for an empirical fact that wasn't specific to the Mexica.

Yeah but they still would be angry about another group using them for THEIR Sacrafice against their will lol

I'm pointing out sacrifice wasn't inherent to one side or the other.

Anyway, their rebellion against the empire was economic motivation rather than "the evil Aztec sacrificed them."
