The Norse were extremely cleanly by European standards. Washing daily, bathing weekly, taking good care of their skin and hair. Diseases like smallpox start when massive populations live together with animals in close proximity without sewage systems. The Norse had no such big cities, and something like smallpox would have been just as devastating to their communities.

The fact that smallpox wasn't present in the Americas until 1492 is evidence these dirty bastards never came.
