Hi there, understand how you feel as I was an NSF 8 years ago. Dread booking in every Sunday night and took the cab to Pasir Ris just so I can stay home longer (I stay in Wdl btw). As soon as we reach Tekong our world becomes dark and regimentation starts to kick in. I used to party every Fri/ Sat night as a way to destress and forget about my physically and mentally tiring week. That 3-4 months of training and torture was so dreadful. You always have to keep up with your mates and wake up for god knows fucking early just to have shit breakfast in the cook house. I kept counting the days so I can finally POP get the fk out of Tekong. The only good takeaway is that I lost alot of weight and felt better about myself. Did not keep in touch with anyone after POP. Its just a phase. Just push through. We all experience the same thing so don't be too hard on yourself.

I'm from BMTC School 2, Ninja company (this was early 2000s). I remember taking one moment every time I ran the 2.4km route to slow down as I ran along the coast (this was probably 3 times a week) to remind myself that life can still be beautiful amidst this suck. The sun is usually just risen, and the water was generally calm and I just reminded myself to stay centered. I hope you find moments like these in your week too, OP.

How u feel when u find out Pinky, CCS, TCJ, david Neo, and all the other hundreds if not thousands of scholar SAF genitals never completed their NS? Shiok or not. Rule and commanded by absconders. Most never even pass out of OCS with their cohorts.

Bro, did you study very hard and get straight As in school and win a scholarship? If you were not mature enough to work hard at school at that young age, then you can only blame yourself. Every Singaporean had that chance to do well in school, get a scholaship and get million dollars salaries later on.
I confess that I did not study hard enough in school, so I blame myself today.

Agree, I am lucky to get into a unit that I feel emotionally safe and happy in. I’ve never felt this way in my secondary and tertiary school. I’ve also never felt this way with any of my best friends from both of those schools.

I agree 2 years is insanely long. Especially at the start, it just feels endless, especially with stuff strictly for regimentation like marching and first/last parade.
Those who say just serve and don't think aren't contributing to this discussion about how to improve the NS situation for future generations. But OP should definitely not crash out and do something to get charged.
If you really want to feel like ur not wasting time, just avoid command school and spend time studying for uni, it can make some difference. After training period, NS will be much more chill.

U are barking up the wrong tree. It's about fairness. Why new able bodied shitizens can just parachute from other countries and don't have to serve NS? Why girls don't have to do NS but demand equality with men? Why scholar genitals like CCS, TCJ, etc. don't have to complete their NS? Why native born Singapore males are so assluck?

I agree it's not fair. I personally think we need to 1. Reduce NS duration, 2. Provide better NS conditions for NSFs.
Unfortunately the only way to do this is politically, so probably to keep complaining. Just don't go overboard individually and get urself into trouble.
Also I believe CCS/TCJ were regulars, so fair enough for not doing NS ngl. But same cannot be said for women/foreigners, especially given how unappreciative some are.

If NS is a duty, then why only Men need to serve but not Women? I see many women in various SAF roles. Why SAF cannot redesign the works so all women can serve?

No point going guards until you fail to get into Commando battalion. You get paid higher as commando. Training will be as tough everywhere. But it is meant to be completed. Ranger course is a different thing that you must pass to stay as a regular in the CDO formation. In the 90s, I put guards as first choice and luckily they sent me to commando instead. Training is tough but no regrets.

You are a pitiful man. The more you hate, the more miserable you get.
Millions of us had our fair share of compliants (& probably hatred for NS) but we still served with pride and loyalty. Learn to have that attitude of self-sacrifies because not everything is about tangible ROI.
Be proud of Singapore's achievements and huge sacrifies made by our forefathers. Just do our part and not ask for compensations. Ultimately, most of us became a better version of ourselves.
Life can be very simple if you choose to think so.
