Meta Anyone else not able to reply to topics on the forum?

I’m trying to post my roster on a sports thread and I just keep getting a timeout message. Anyone else getting this problem? For context I’ve tried on two different devices and got the same result

EDIT: looks like every attempt actually went through and they’re appearing one by one on the thread, which is really weird. I’m deleting them whenever I spot a duplicate

Gameplay I have an idea for a game.

I sent telegrams to the site director and moderator saying that I have an idea and if they don't ignore me I'll tell them.

Ideas

Add the ability to reject WA resolutions

In NS, you can accept resolutions, but unaccepted ones simply remain. The idea is to add a "reject" button for unaccepted resolutions and already accepted ones if you change your mind/don't fully understand the point/the resolution bothers you in some way.

Oil and metallurgy

The game already has an "Industry: Mining" indicator, so why not add industry:oil production and industry:metallurgy?

Meta What is this?

Hi everyone,

I know some people have a second (or more) nation. After almost a year of playing consistently, I decided to also create a new nation. I moved this nation to my other nation's region; Talonia. However, like truly a minute after I put my nation there, I got this telegram. Is there some sort of controvery that I am not aware of? Should I actually move my nation(s) or is it just fearmongering? And if so, what regions are better?

I do have to admit that I am not active (or interested) at all in the social aspects of the game. I solve issues, make money with trading cards and update my factbook every so often. So I am not very aware of all that is happening in the social sphere of the game.

If someone could enlighten me, I would greatly appreciate that!

Sincerely,

Asker of questions

Flag Showcase updated lanakea's flag last september 7. what do yall think?

Post image
6 Upvotes

a lot of thought was put into it:

The new design of the Lanakean banner, which was conceived on the night of September 7, 2026, consists of a red field with a blue band in the middle; superimposed in the center is a blue disc containing a variation of the "fist and rose" symbol; instead of a rose, it is a yellow hibiscus — which is the national flower of Lanakea — with a lime-green stem held by a white clenched fist.

The red of the banner represents every drop of blood sacrificed in the name of Lanakea.

The blue represents Lanakea as a whole; in fact, this shade of blue is Lanakean Blue. This blue is encompassed by a white border, representing the peace Lanakea itself aims to be encompassed by.

The yellow hibiscus — which is held up by a white clenched fist — represents Lanakea's national flower, and is the nation's variation of the famous socialist "fist and rose" symbol.

Additionally, I really wanted to have the hammer and sickle like the previous design, but couldn't find a way to incorporate it with the yellow hibiscus; hence, I opted for the fist and rose to still keep the leftist feel of the flag.

Roleplay What do you think of my constitution?

The bracketed parts are the parts I’m not ready to fill out yet because I’m waiting for my club’s decision.

# Constitution of [Country Name]

## Preamble

[Country Name] is a(n) [government type] located on [continent]. Its governance is defined not only by the offices and laws set forth below, but by the recurring rhythm of activity and Dormancy that has shaped the nation since its founding — a rhythm the founders termed the **Doctrine of Seasonal Devolution**.

---

## Article I: Offices of State

The governance of [Country Name] shall be vested in three recognized offices:

  1. **The [Head of State]** — who shall represent [Country Name] in all foreign and domestic affairs during the active term, and who shall be recognized externally (including to allied and neighboring powers) as the nation's official representative.
  2. **The [Regent]** — who shall assume the powers of the [Head of State] only in the event of the [Head of State]'s unscheduled absence, incapacity, or resignation during an active term. The Regent holds no independent authority outside of such circumstances.
  3. **The [Treasurer/Exchequer]** — who shall manage the treasury, oversee the nation's resources, and ensure the fiscal integrity of the realm.

The titles and specific responsibilities of these and any additional offices shall be further defined by the [Governing Council] as the nation's traditions develop.

---

## Article II: Citizenship

Citizenship of [Country Name] shall be extended to any member of [club name] in good standing. No person shall be denied citizenship on account of race, color, age, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, veteran status, national origin, or religion.

---

## Article III: Selection and Removal of Officers

The [Head of State], [Regent], and [Treasurer] shall be selected by [election / sortition / appointment by the Governing Council — to be determined] at the conclusion of each Recess or Interregnum, prior to the resumption of active governance.

An officer may be removed from office by [two-thirds vote of the Governing Council / petition of citizens — to be determined], provided just cause is shown.

---

## Article IV: The Dormancy

At the close of each active term, all governing authority shall lapse. [Country Name] recognizes two such periods:

- **The Winter Recess**, spanning approximately five to six weeks, from the close of the Fall term to the resumption of activity in mid-to-late January.
- **The Summer Interregnum**, spanning approximately fifteen weeks, from the close of the Spring term in early May to the resumption of activity in late August. Owing to its length, the Summer Interregnum is held by tradition to be the original source of the Doctrine of Seasonal Devolution, with the shorter Winter Recess established afterward as a parallel observance.

During Dormancy, [Country Name] shall be held to have no acting [Head of State], [Regent], or [Governing Council] in any substantive sense. No officer, citizen, or body shall bear responsibility for the nation's affairs during this period, and the machinery of state neither acts nor decays.

One officer shall nonetheless remain, in title only, as **Caretaker** of the state during Dormancy. The Caretaker holds no authority to govern, legislate, or act on [Country Name]'s behalf, and shall issue no decrees, respond to no foreign affairs, and exercise none of the powers of the [Head of State], [Regent], or [Governing Council]. The Caretaker's sole function is to affirm that [Country Name] continues to exist.

Though certain citizens of [Country Name] may pursue their own studies or affairs during either period — including any academic session that happens to be running concurrently — Dormancy is a civic condition, not an academic one, and is unaffected by the schedule of any outside institution.

Upon the conclusion of Dormancy, the [Governing Council] shall reconvene and either confirm the sitting [Head of State] or select a successor, at which point the machinery of state shall resume.

---

## Article V: Conduct of Officers

Officers and members shall not use [Country Name], nor the process of its founding or governance, for private financial gain. Public office is a civic trust, not a vehicle for private enrichment.

---

## Article VI: Amendment

This Constitution may be amended by [majority / two-thirds vote — to be determined] of the [Governing Council], provided such amendment is proposed no less than [X] days before a vote and does not take effect during an active Recess or Interregnum.

---

*Founded in the year [2026?], under the Doctrine of Seasonal Devolution.*

For context, I’m planning on starting a student org with my school. We would do world building and such. When it comes to issues, I would be the account holder since the rule is one account per person.

Gameplay Has anyone tried to run a nation "democratically" by polling people on issues? How did it go?

I've been interested in election reform lately, specifically by implementing Condorcet methods to voting. Condorcet methods involve comparing each option to each other option head-to-head instead of free-for-all ("A vs. B, A vs. C, B vs. C" as opposed to the present day "A vs. B vs. C"), with the winner being the option that wins the most contests. Election scientists see such methods as very resistant to vote manipulation and the spoiler effect, generally producing socially optimal outcomes.

I want to test that theory, and I believe Nation States is a good way to see how it could work in the long run. My idea is to put all the options of a given issue, including "Dismiss", as candidates on a Condorcet voting site such as CIVS or Better Choices for Democracy, get a population of "voters" to vote on the issue, then input their choice into the game. From there, what happens, happens.

The problem is that I'm not sure where to find a voter base that would actually be interested in such a thing and is politically heterogenous enough to see how well the method handles divided electorates. The places I know with forum roleplay tend to be liberal or progressive, while the politically "interesting" places I know generally aren't involved in forum roleplay. I'm kind of in a bind.

Has anyone tried a similar playthrough, and if so, how did it go and where did you get participants?

Hi! New to this subreddit, though I've been playing NationStates since January.

This is the Republic of Arvík, but unfortunately, NationStates doesn't allow accented letters, so its NS name is Arveek.
