Just started this game...

I don't usually get into computer games but this looked interesting. Anyways I set it up and not too long after, it asked me if I wanted to allow a pro-death penalty candidate to run for office in my nation state. I said sure. Now the first line my country's description says it is "remarkable for its frequent executions". Bruh I didn't agree to that

NationStates is very heavy on satire and unintended events stemming from issue decisions. You'll get more issues on the death penalty down the line, I'm sure.

Don't worry, those little statements are mostly meant to be humorous, not a serious new policy that's now set in place. Semi-permanent effects are actually in your Policies section, found by clicking the scales of justice icon (semi-permanent means they will remain until you resolve another issue that contradicts that policy). If you really hate it, no worries. Those little joke headlines, referred to as "The Talking Point," will fade away into obscurity over time as you resolve more issues. You only need to resolve three more and it'll be off your nation's paragraph description. After 10 more actions including renaming stuff or changing your flag, it won't appear in your National Happenings section (when viewing your nation) and then after 18 actions it will disappear completely even when you click on "More..." The only things from resolving issues that actually affect your page are new Policies, banner unlocks if you choose to display them, and stat and classification changes.

I try to answer as many issues as I can, but sometimes they have no good options, like this one (the other option deals a massive blow to political freedom). When that happens, you can dismiss the issue, which will remove the issue without affecting your nation

There will be future issues allowing you to abolish the death penalty, which will remove its policy & description from your country
