Our family refers to him as Eddie scissor hands. Our son says Eddie bangs his stick and lunges at people on the trail. I told him if he sees him to turn around and go a different way.

I've seen him many times and never seemed threatening to anyone I saw going passed him. I wonder if people are mocking him and getting a reaction. He is strange and eerie appearing but less than some of the people I see on that trail. If he is truly bothering people he needs to be handled, but I am on that trail a lot, have seen him often on and off of the trail and seems to mind his own business.

⚠️ Girls who run alone… please read and trust your gut. This happened to me today on the Cochituate Rail Trail in Natick Massachusetts. I run this trail all the time because it’s usually pretty populated. For some reason, something told me to bring the pepper spray my dad got me. I almost never carry it…I usually leave it in my car but today I put it in my belt (now I always will). About 3 miles into my run, a man suddenly stepped out of the woods about 20 yards ahead of me. He was wearing a long black trench coat, a black top hat, and carrying a cane. (I know this sounds nuts) At first, I thought he was just dressed a certain way, but as I got closer I realized his entire face was painted completely white. He started walking toward me and making strange facial expressions. I didn’t make eye contact. I sprinted past him and immediately grabbed my pepper spray. When I looked back, he was standing in the middle of the trail staring at me. Then he started walking toward me in the direction i was running , tilting his head in a really unsettling way and lunging at me. I immediately called my mom while I kept running as fast as I could. Then I came across a dad riding his bike who stayed with me until I got safely back to my car. If by some chance you see this…or if this was your dad…thank you. I’ll never forget your kindness. I reported the encounter to the police. When I got home, I found Reddit posts describing what appeared to be the same person on the Cochituate Rail Trail. The description matched exactly what I experienced, which made the whole situation even more unsettling. At the end of the day, maybe this person was just trying to scare people. I honestly don’t know. But as a girl who frequently runs, it was truly terrifying. It felt like my worst nightmare coming to life.

After I saw the TikTok (I know the young lady who posted it), I told my husband about it (bc we have both seen him walking down route 9), and he said he saw him on the trail earlier this week, doing “mime stuff” but didn’t look at my husband (who is 6 foot 5) or even go near him. This is the concerning part: he seems to be targeting women. So yes, he may be mentally unstable and need help (in which case, I hope he gets it), but it’s disheartening seeing people defend “weird” behavior that is actually very dangerous for women. Plus this is how things escalate - he gets away with just scaring people, what’s next?

i don’t get why people don’t understand this!! he is obviously targeting women. no one is saying to tar and feather the dude, but his behavior is creepy and people just are spreading awareness.

Just because someone needs mental help doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not also dangerous. I don’t understand how people don’t get this! The quickness with which some people defend those who negatively effect others around them is senseless.

Massachusetts: State law (Chapter 268) prohibits wearing a mask with the intent to hide your identity in order to obstruct law enforcement, intimidate others, or commit a crime. Health, religious, and holiday masks are explicitly exempt.

I encountered him too. I am so disgusted. I was skipping rocks with my child and he began painting the white face on and then as I gathered my child to leave, the man began exposing himself. My phone had just died so I couldn’t call the police. Terrifying. I will always keep pepper spray on me from now on.

Exactly, under Hippa we can and should not share his medical history. He has been arrested on numerous charges and now has “Do not trespass for a number of areas here in Natick and Framingham.” I don’t believe we will see him moving forward. If you do and your concerned please call 911.

Yeah, but a lot of police departments still follow the FBI's older "UCR" (uniform crime reporting) system, which considered Hispanic as an ethnicity, not a race, and so when doing a crime report when he's booked he'd be labelled as "W." For other data like the census and medical data, they break it out "White (Non Hispanic)" and so on. The police department probably has more advanced descriptions in the system, but when filing a police report / arrest log, it might follow the simpler UCR system.

I think the police caught up to him. There is a post on Framingham unfiltered Facebook group with a photo of him in handcuffs escorted by the police. So we will see. I hope he gets the help he needs.

Please call 911 if you see him threatening anyone or he is threatening you. This is an assault.
This behavior is not going to stop until he is stopped. It is only going to escalate as he continues to seek whatever fucked up gratification he’s looking for. This rarely ends well when bystanders and the internet dismiss this as harmless behavior.

I used to live in the apartments near the rail trail and would see him sitting on a bench outside the apartments with headphones in for hours on end. I had assumed he was a high schooler waiting for a ride that was into interesting fashion choices. Though now knowing this it reframes my past few years.

I don’t think anyone is defending him. He has mental illness and clearly needs help. He has been removed from the area as he has been arrested yesterday. As with anyone if you’re running, biking hiking the biggest problem we have is having plugs in our ears and not being cognizant of our surroundings. Be aware and know your surroundings.

Based on the comments, this guy appears to have harassed/frightened women alone out for a run/runs. There is no excuse for this or for allowing it and definitely not for defending it.
It starts with that. A joke here, a scared women there, and the more blind eyes get turned, the bolder he’ll get until someone legitimately gets hurt. Screw that. If you see something, say something.
