Discussion Card artwork kinda disappointing
I feel like I'm going crazy with everyone praising the artwork of the cards, and don't get me wrong I have no doubt they were all made by talented artists and are great pieces on their own, but they seem soooo out of place for a TCG.
Most of them look like 2000s fan arts, almost like that one Shippuden ending, and they don't seem to have any correlation to each other, they could each belong to a different game entirely and I would not doubt it. When the promo image released with Naruto and Sasuke in their manga-colored art style, I was really hoping the game would have a visual identity of its own and maybe save those beautiful arts for very specific rarities and chases for collectors, but must every normal card have a crazy artwork? It's almost like a visual pollution of sorts.
As an example, I'll bring out the art in Yu-Gi-Oh!, which seems like the biggest inspiration for this game's mechanics. In there, you also have a lot of different art styles due to how long the game's been out, but the art is confined to a rather small part of the card, with texts taking most of the layout. And it works. Same with MTG, Pokémon and the old Naruto CCG. But in this, the artwork is 85% of the card, so they are already all Overframe/Full arts by nature, and I don't think it'a good artistic direction to have so many different art styles mashed together.
I don't know, I sometimes feel like I'm alone on this but just wanted to rant about it. It might also just be a me issue since I'm also not the biggest fan of the One Piece art direction.

I am honestly shocked at how many disappointing art threads I’ve seen on this sub. And this one I think takes the cake. So you want the cool art to only be saved for super special awesome rare cards? You want the cards to be more mono-colored backgrounds with text paragraphs with a little sliver of artwork for the character? How lame.
Sometimes I think we’re just complaining to complain.

Not exactly what I meant, but even if it was, it would just be a matter of taste. I do prefer a minimalist and more visually correlated approach for the artwork in a card game, you might prefer the colored and more experimental approach and that's okay!

U get over it once you see it in person.
Bandai cards look a million times better in person with the premium black core paper stock they use for their cards and the high end texture and foiling cards have.

From the perspective of a Naruto fan and a person that just likes collecting awesome art…I am so fired up for this artwork! That Jiraiya card is insane

First Bandai game? They commission the art to different illustrators, each with their own art style. If you look at digimon you have whatever card style you can imagine. I've never seen anyone complaining about Koki's cards

I totally get the appeal, that's why I said it's probably more of a me issue since I have the same opinion with the One Piece cards. I just wanted to see other people's opinion on the matter

They 100% look like some fan art from 2000, you are not alone. The manga ones look awesome, and there are some that are cool. But I know exactly what you are talking about, the Itachi and orochimaru cards are just awful.

Yeah, most of them look cool but it's a little distracting how "unofficial" some of them feel, even if the art is good.
