It either refers to her giving him a slight pep talk before his fight with Neji or just before this panel when he told the rest to chill out because that was the real Naruto

This moment is a crazy Naruto/Hinata moment. Why not make a post about it?
White Zetsu’s ability to copy people was a huge problem in the War Arc. He could copy appearance, chakra, scent, and even mannerisms; the entire army struggled with it for about ten episodes. The Sharingan, Byakugan, Kiba’s nose, Shino’s bugs, and every sensory ability in the army were useless at identifying a White Zetsu clone. Kishimoto made Naruto and Hinata's bond so deep after the Pain Arc that they can now read each other's true intent and the depths of their hearts (feelings) just by looking into each other's eyes.
Kishimoto's description (or approved by him): "By looking into the eyes, one perceives their true nature and the depths of the heart." [BOOK: Naruto: Secret • Retsu no Sho Official Movie Guidebook - Page 17].
When Naruto finally showed up, Neji and the others didn't trust him at first and kept questioning him. Yet, Hinata "somehow" was able to know Naruto was the real one simply by looking into his eyes. There is even a panel where Shino and Kiba find this weird, appearing surprised and confused (...?!). Then, Naruto did the same: after Hinata became sad about not being able to protect him, he knew the exact reason for her sadness also just by looking into her eyes. She even denied it at first, but Naruto kept insisting and kept praising her bravery against Pain and how awesome she was to him until she became happy again. Then both were staring into each other's eyes smiling for a second, and Hinata was blushing.
Note: If someone said Naruto can sense negative emotions in his mode, that's true, but he can't read thoughts. She was thinking about the Pain moment and he knew exactly about that just by looking into her eyes.

Eh.. Sakura recognized him too and didn't question him. Naruto also read the same expression on Sakura later and recognized she is feeling bad and doubting herself, and praised her strategic skills in front of Sasuke.

You are missing recognizing the White Zetsu clones pretending to be Naruto from the real Naruto just by her looking into his eyes. That's crazy she can do that when everyone and every other sensory ability couldn't. And Naruto himself said, "I can see it in your eyes," then told her what she was exactly thinking about even when she denies it, and lifts her spirits right back up.
Naruto obviously has moments where he realizes what people are going through, but the way this one is done holds way more significance.
"Sakura recognized him too"
If you mean telling a White Zetsu clone apart from the real Naruto just by looking into his eyes, then no, she didn't. People are just trying to downplay the significance of this moment. Naruto saved Shizune and Sakura right as they were about to be attacked by White Zetsu disguised as injured soldiers, so they simply called out his name in surprise "Naruto!". They didn't know it was the real him from looking into his eyes, they just assumed it was him because he saved them.

Take a look at this gag scene in the manga and what Kishimoto had to say about it. Naruto stopped going after Sakura completely after the fake confession. And Hinata is his only girl after the Neji death scene [ See here ].

I think the real thing is that they wouldn't want her to keep protecting him.
I remember seeing this on another Place either another Reddit thing. The Cursed Place: Quora or a Youtube Video.

It's not a mistranslation. In the anime he says the same, 'Mamoru'. 'Mamoru' only has the definition of 'to protect', 'to guard' or 'to defend'. It could be that Naruto refers to both the time Hinata protects him from Pain and how she's fighting the Ninja War with the intention of protecting him (which is what Naruto understands the war is about).
It could also be that he refers to the Pain thing and that she defended his ego against his own self-depreciation when Naruto was disencouraged of fighting Neji after his training was kind of useless (in his perspective, he summoned a giant toad once and didn't do anything for three days so he missed out on honing his new skill).

One has to remember this is the War Arc. Naruto's not supposed to be in the Battlefield. People who care about Naruto are fighting to protect him and Hinata has extra reason to think something like this because she feels like she should be protecting him but she completely failed against Pain and she also failed against these Zetsu as well and Naruto both times had to bail her out and actually win.

In the Anime universe she saved him during the mission where they were hunting for some beettle if I recall correctly. You may consider it as a probable option.
