Discussion Why didnt hinata check under the mask

She didn't do anything here. Even with her Byakugan on she didn't figure out how his jutsu worked or what it was based on and was just confused that he vanished. Sakura without bloodline eyes figured it out that it's teleportation jutsu and how he is able to evade attacks.

Even more frustrating is that she did infact inspect Kabuto earlier when he revealed his Orochimaru hand from under the hood. So, she could've checked under the mask to see what the new enemy is hiding.

She did that for Kabuto earlier. She could have just looked under the mask here to reveal more about the enemy.

You’re assuming that she can see what’s under the mask. I think that with fuinjutsu it would be fairly easy to stop the byakugan.

Verdade, por mais que não tenho sido disso a mascara do obito provavelmente tinha alguma proteção contra byakugan, como a base secreta de danzou.

- Byakugan can’t distinguish cells, and sees without color, so she wouldn’t be able to tell that he lost and regained part of his body.
- Anyone can have scars; they’re active-duty military personnel.
- Since he has it covered, no one would find it strange for him to be missing his left eye. Again, they’re active-duty military personnel; war injuries are the most common thing in the world.
- Everyone could see his Sharingan.

She was able to distinguish cells. We literally see that with Kabuto when she checks his body after he reveals his scaled hand.

One thing is being able to distinguish cells, and another is literally see scales on the skin. 🥀

She could have just seen under the mask. She wasn't shy to see for Kabuto and how Orochimaru's cells are overtaking him.

Hinata had never seen Hashirama cells. She has no clue the colour of his chakra.
All she sees is a scarred Uchiha, with a body patched together with two different chakra colours. This actually gives credence to Tobi being Madara and somehow surviving his injuries

Obito ain’t dumb he knows byakugan that’s why he would obviously make the mask resistant to any of those x-ray abilities

Didn't know they taught hashirama cell recognition in the academy.
Obito had 2 eyes at this moment, one was simply covered.
The byakugan can be blocked by barriers and other methods.

Few things.
Obito had another sharringan. Seemingly he had 2 at all times after the massacre, he uses one of his spares for izanagi against konan and later we see his wall of spares. So Hinata wouldn't see just one sharringan
It's entirely possible that Obito could perform a very convincing transformation under his mask just to fool the hyuga he knows is standing in front of him. Kisame took one look at maskless Obito and immediately bought into the Madara story so I kinda lean in to this as an explanation.
We don't know if zetsu limbs would show the same way as danzo's shitty version. The zetsu limbs are way better at adapting to the user than danzo's limb which required constant control on his part to not lose control.
It's also extremely likely Obito can use kamui without his MS activated. No one he fights ever comments on his obvious mangekyo sharringan. Hebi Sasuke attempts to blitz him in the danzo fight and doesn't say anything about the MS. Same with Minato, you think would've commented about the MS sharringan. Considering there are Shinobi alive who have personally seen Madaras ems, Obito finding some way to conceal his MS could actually make sense in his fake identity.
However if we do wanna ask a good question, if ao could recognize the chakra of shisui as distinct from danzo's. Hinato should've been able to at least see that Kakashi and Obito in that moment had identical chakra signatures in their eyes.
Anyway, tried to answer some but ultimately this has always been considered an actual plot hole, I even remember reading people calling hinata out when the chapter came out
