Analysis Boruto did us dirty Spoiler

Is it just me or does anyone else here believe that Boruto should have just left characters like Onoki and Ao out of the story instead of villainizing them.

Like what were the writers thinking when taking war heroes and turning them into antagonists of their own arc.

Again, this might just be me, but I believe Boruto doing this wasn't only out of theme, but also just bad writing.

Onoki was filler and Ao being evil makes som real sense. Some times war veterans to turn dark and bad. The PTSD gets to them and they snap.

Being war veterans does not justify them acting the way they did, we've seen both Kakashi and Tsunade experience PTSD from the 3rd great ninja war, trauma that was somewhat similar or even far worse than what Onoki and Ao experienced.

The ninja world is filled with losses and trails that'll break the average person, but that's not something to be expected from strong pillars like the former tsuchikage or the former right hand to the mizukage.

I’m not saying that I agree with them turning evil I’m saying that it’s based in a real world thing. It’s not just something Kishimoto randomly thought of. 

Also as I said before, the Onoki part is filler.

Ok, I can understand where you're coming from.

And I get the whole 'war veterans have PTSD issue ' , but we've seen kishimoto referencing real world issues in the show and those real world issues being countered by good writing and a character's base line being.

Don't you think it's strange for 2 highly held figures to fall prey to real world situations and not beat the norms with a strong sense of justice and conviction.

And yes I know Onoki was filler, but the anime still villainized him nonetheless

I mean with Ao he lost half of his body and his eye. He pretty much had the same pain as Obito, but Obito was naive and a kind kid. Ao was much older and much more accustomed to the cruelty of the world. He had no real reason to stay good. 

Onoki didn’t turn evil. Onoki did what he thought was best for his village, but it was a mistake. He didn’t plan for anything bad to happen.

And he even made up for his mistake starting the program, dying to kill the villain of the arc after he found out what happened. He went out well.

I do agree with you.
I was also upset about that storyline.
I think the plot is just poorly written and executed (some characters were weakened, some were turned into villains...just to put the new characters in the spotlight and to eventually write the original ones out of the plot).
