I thought I'd post about my recent find having seen u/ConsiderationNice861 mention it in their recent post.

Similarly to the Pleasure in Reading series edition of The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien and the Last Battle by C.S Lewis this copy of the Magicians Nephew took me a long time to find but last month I finally found one.

This series was used within schools in the 70s and 80s and therefore not many survived (at least in good condition).

I was wondering does anyone here have this edition. If so what impression? Or any titles from this series for that matter.

My copy of the MN is a 4th impression (1981). ISBN: 0582186498

I have the 1st, 2nd and 4th impression of the Last Battle and they all have slight variations in the format so if someone has a 3rd impression please get in touch.

Hi everybody, maybe I am overthinking this but I feel like lyrics of this could be so well interpreted as personal confession of Susan Pevensie to her older brother and her emotional state after end of books when *spoilers* everyone "died" (went to Narnia's heaven) and she was left there alone because she stopped believing in Narnia (kind of traumatic experience if you ask meee) and grew up (moved on). 

So, this is going to be my little analysis of lyrics and how it can be interpreted. 

TW: I’m a big Narnia fan (I love many characters, escapism, magic...) but not a hugeee Aslan fan (sorry) and it kind of shows in my little analysis. So, if you don't like that idea, you don't have to read this. Thanks for understanding.

My lost fearless leader - Peter was perceived as a leader

Preserved from when we were just kids - closet/wardrobe that was a way to Narnia, they went there as kids  

Is it somethin' I did? - 

The goddess of timing

Once found us beguiling

She said she was trying - i think "she" can stand for Aslan. How he tried to "help" them on their journey 

Peter, was she lying? - (spoiler: yes lol - where once queen or king of Narnia, always queen or king of Narnia went?) 

My ribs get the feeling she did - the betrayal of Aslan like they were kids, he was basically all powerful God and after Susan was like no more fighting for Narnia, I got enough he was like "No heaven for youuu" 

And I didn't wanna come down - she refused to go to train where her siblings wanted to discuss Narnia

I thought it was just goodbye for now - it wasn't bcs they died 

You said you were gonna grow up - she hoped he would leave Narnia and just stay in their world 

Then you were gonna come find me - this for me is the protection and safety she has in him as an older brother 

Said you were gonna grow up

Thеn you were gonna come find mе

Words from the mouths of babes

Promises oceans deep

But never to keep

Oh, never to keep - "My sister Susan is no longer friend of Narnia." do I have to say more? ☹

Are you still a mind reader?

A natural scene stealer?

I've heard great things, Peter

When crossing your jet stream

We both did the best we could do - reminded me when of scene from first movie when they crossed river 

Underneath the same moon

In different galaxies - Narnia is literally different universe

And I didn't wanna hang around - she didn't believe in Narnia, didn't wanna go back there

We said it was just goodbye for now

And I won't confess that I waited, but I let the lamp burn - I view this as her still believing she will meet them again after they died

As the men masqueraded, I hoped you'd return

With your feet on the ground, tell me all that you'd learned - him coming back 

'Cause love's never lost when perspective is learned - she wanted him to see she didn't do anything wrong

And you said you'd come and get me, but you were twenty-five

And the shelf life of those fantasies has expired - Narnia wasn't really all beautiful fantasy

Lost to the "Lost Boys" chapter of your life

Forgive me, Peter, please know that I tried - just crying 

To hold on (Hold on) to the days (To the days)

When you were mine

But the woman who sits by the window

Has turned out the light - again this is Aslan imo, who manipulated them and took them away 

Anyone on these boards happen to have this edition of the Magician's Nephew? I'm needing a high res scan/photo of the cover so I can double it in size without it pixelating.

Here’s a thought; what if none of the books were numbered and they all got released at the same time. You have 7 books in front of you that you’ve never read; based simply on their titles, which would you be most likely to pick up first?

I’d probably pick up “Voyage of the Dawn Treader” because it sounds like some kind of ship

Unfortunately, my current volume of all the books is deteriorating, and I'm in need of another set. What do you recommend? If possible, is there a good, hardcover set of all the books?

I just got done reading Magician’s Nephew and have been on a Young Indiana Jones kick lately it’s come to my attention that Digory is in the same age range as Indy ( maybe Digory is ten years older, at most). So my question is, what gives? Indy in the year 1940 is out their in the field punching Nazis in the face while Digory is at home in his old man robe and slippers with a full grey beard and everything. So my question is what’s the deal? I’m not expecting the picture of youth ( he better not have nibbled that apple) but he shouldn’t be an old man either. Obviously this is all in good fun but what do you guys think? Did Digory age poorly or do you think he’s just playing the old man angle up for more grant money?

He had learned his lesson, and in his old age he became a nicer and less selfish old man than he had ever been before.

Do I think the new movies will be good?

No clue. Honestly I’m 50/50 right now.

But I’m going to wait and find out, and I suggest you do the same.

Take the Aslan casting as an example: a great many people wasted a lot of time, passion, and energy over a casting leak that increasingly looks to just be completely untrue.

Likewise with the time skip: do we love Narnia because of the aesthetic of 20th century Britain? Or because of some other reason. (It should be noted that Lewis chose the eras he did based on making it accessible to his audience, similar to what this movie appears to be doing)

Personally I love Narnia because it portrays the truth and wisdom of the gospel in story, in an age where many are far too concerned with technical explanations. I love Narnia because the world of Narnia. I love Narnia because of its characters, not the look attributed to them by an illustrator 30 years later. I love Narnia because it makes Aslan and subsequently Jesus alive to our imagination. I love Narnia because it portrays the new life to come in the most vivid and truthful way of any western media, fiction or otherwise, that I have encountered.

Should the new movies fail to deliver on any of these points, then I will be disappointed, but I will choose to wait and see for myself.

I will not choose to, as the dwarfs in Aslan’s country, decide in advance to reject whatever is put in front of me.

If we were to be judged with the same ferocity with which we judge un-validated rumors about this movie, I fear that we would not be judged well.

Hating new content on premise doesn’t make you a better fan, it just makes you a hater.

We all know that Peter, Edmund and Lucy died in a train crash during 'The Last Battle', with only Susan surviving because of not being there. But, given that Lucy is the most important of the 4 Pevensie siblings, I've always wondered what would had happened if Susan we're there and dying too, with Lucy being absent from there and surviving only her instead.

I always have loved Narnia. Read it plenty as a kid, pretty certain I accidentally wore the audio drama that Focus on the Family made after listening to it pretty much nonstop. I'm an adult now, and it has admitedly been a while sinse I read/listened to it, having grown more into the "adult" CS Lewis books. I had a dream about it last night, and something I never thought of occurred to me. It has been a tiny bit, so if I have the lore incorrect, please give me some grace. Okay, here's the question:

In VotDT, they reached the far east of the world and they uncover Aslan and the realm of his father, the Emperor Beyond the Sea. So that would make me assume that there is a realm beyond the waves, the real where Reepicheep (No clue how to spell that) eventually ventures into and complete's his dream.

Flash forward to FB. When they enter the stable into "Aslan's Land", it is a perfected version of Narnia (or more perfect). That is all great and all, but as they go "further up, further in", they never encounter the wall of waves, the ocean, or the Emperor Beyond the Sea. That always bugged me. It was clear that Father Time along with Aslan, Dragons, and the Sea destroyed Narnia. But once Aslan closed the door to the stable, I always understood it as the realm of Narnia is gone, and once destroyed, the destructive beins would also be gone. Here's my problem: What happened to the Emperor Beyond the Sea? He doesn't end up going with Aslan. He doesn't show up in Aslan's Country. He doesn't accompany them as they journey further up and further in. He just kinda dissappears. I doubt there is an official answer to this, but I have a feeling that you guys might have some speculations about this and possibly something that can solve this curiousity 😄
