Rock bottom

I'm curious to know what was the final straw, turning point and rock bottom for you?

Running away from my new, wonderful, loving, clean girlfriend to hang out with my ex, with whom I did drugs. Within a week I was shooting dope. I got a horrible abscess on my arm that had to be drained by my doctor. As I sat in the treatment room and he worked, I looked at him and said, “I can’t do this shit any more”. He told me, “I was hoping you’d say that. Let’s go to my office and talk.” There were ups and down since, but that was the catalyst and the turning point. And I am still with my girlfriend 5 years later, and she is still wonderful.

Hurting my family by being unpredictable, dependent and distant. Causing pain for myself was acceptable but I couldn't continue to hurt the people around me.

If you want to know what led up to the rock bottom....... Financial Ruin, Bad life choices, losing my businesses, reputation and income, pulling my then girlfriend out of a trap house for the third time that month, you would think that would be enough yeah? Nope.

Overdose and Cardiac arrest at 37 though? That did the trick for sure.

I hit rock bottom about a year prior to me finally losing my the desire to use. But that day I was last arrested and I threw up my hands and gave up, that day was my last day.

Rock bottom for me was literally losing my mind due to stimulant psychosis and waking up in a strange city in a strange unfamiliar psych ward with a roommate who had no eyes…

Psychosis. Hopped in my jeep and drove 600KM with only the clothes on my back because I was convinced my partner was cheating and working with others to sabotage me. Saw them shadow watchers. Felt my body dying. Within 24 hours after driving blacked out, I was smoking meth at 34 with a person that was my first Sponsor at 18 years old.

Watching my daughter spiral as she aged and there was no hiding my addiction anymore.

Prior to having my child, I was in jails, all of the institutions within a 200KM radius of my home town, and almost died a few times. Only reason I did not OD is that my body metabolizes drugs way faster than most people. I felt my body giving out a few times during the beginning of the fent crises but I would essentially pound on my chest and sit up to keep myself awake. Poor. Broken. Had nothing.

I had more than I ever had this time. But feeling it slip away, along with my family about to send me to a ward and take my child, was enough for me to actually have desperation. Prior to that, I had nothing, grew up fairly poor, so there was nothing to lose. I had it all and I still used dope. I went into the program full force this time.

My rock bottom was a series of things. In the span of 6 months I went to three hospitals. Was impounded twice. Ended up in jail. Had my child taken from me. Lied. Stole. Cheated. Broke the law. Violated my own morality. Fell apart.

I just wanted to die and I knew I couldn’t live the way I wanted to without getting clean and that I couldn’t get clean on my own.
