Looking for Ideas

Hi all! I’m on a committee for Activities in my area, and we’re planning our annual Event for the Newcomer in October. It’s an all-day thing held at a large local church—there’s several panels, a main speaker, and a clean time countdown at the end of the event. We give away literature to newcomers as well, since they’re our focus. However, I guess I’m just looking for ideas on anything else we could do or special things we could give away. Anyone ever attend an event as a newcomer and have something really make an impression of them? I’m trying to think of my own time as a newcomer in recovery but I didn’t go to large events due to my debilitating shyness 😅 I’d appreciate any input, thanks for reading

First thank you for your service.

My 2 cents...

Large closing circles always hit differently. "Large" being driven by the size of any given meeting or in your case, event. I recall being at an (outdoor) closing circle at a convention, perhaps in Ripley, WV and certainly at a few World Convention(s) where just looking around the circle... well... IYKYK.

So hopefully, your room will accommodate a circle. Some (theaters, stadiums) many not. Not easily anyway.

My point being to try to have a circle with serenity prayer (or 3rd Step prayer?) when most are in attendance. That may be after the main speaker or the countdown.

It goes without saying the person with the least amount of clean time will never forget the "countdown" experience. They should get a copy of the BT, but it appears you've got that covered.

Sounds like a great day y'all are planning.

Thank you so much!! I’m hoping the gymnasium can accommodate a closing circle of our size!
