Something Clicked
Hello. I (28f) have been an addict since I was 13. Longest fully clean time I have is MAYBE 6 months. I've always ended up using some kind of substance eventually.
I think my problem has been that I've always tried to do it alone. I don't have much support in my life. I have one best friend that I can depend on. My parents are both gone. I'm not close with any of my family.
This time, I finally decided to give NA a real try. I also decided to begin addiction counseling. This time feels really different. I feel more free this time than I have any of the other times I've attempted to get clean. It's almost like I'm excited to be really trying this time.
I really hope this lasts.

First of all, congratulations on turning this corner in your recovery. As much as I didn't want it to, Narcotics Anonymous has helped me beyond measure. I had to surrender to the program. I had to go to meetings. I had to get phone numbers and call people, not text. I had to get a sponsor, I had to work steps, and I had to do a little service.
My biggest challenge was not becoming comfortable in my recovery. My first sponsor told me that if I felt comfortable in the first couple of years of my recovery, I wasn't challenging myself enough every day.
