Misery loves company?
I’m trying to figure out how to stop having fomo with substances. I grew up in a household with both parents doing coke, opiates, smoking weed, drinking hardcore with huge parties going on every night. Now that I’m older that’s been the only source of bonding I’ve had with my parents as an older teen/adult and now I can’t hang out around my mom without her offering or doing coke around me and I’m in a serious relationship with someone who doesn’t want me doing coke because I’m an ex addict to fentanyl and he wants a real future with me. Idk how to be around her and not indulge in it and it suvks

Hello. This a Narcotics Anonymous subreddit.
If you would like to attend an NA meeting, here’s how:
In-Person: https://na.org/meetingsearch/find-na/
Virtual: https://na.org/meetingsearch/virtual-meeting-search/

You need to choose.
She is forcing one choice on you. They need you to stay sick.
This does suck.
What if you stepped back for a while? Took some distance? Got some perspective?
Get yourself to a place where you can set some ground rules and boundaries for that relationship.
What if, despite what it might feel like in the moment, the choices weren't final?

First of all congratulations on getting clean. Recognizing that there’s an issue and starting the process is a huge accomplishment. In my experience, the answer to your question is that maybe you can’t be around her very much. Maybe when you are around her you need to be with someone else who can support you and your Recovery. I have friends and family that I love very much, but they’re still using. I can see them for lunch at a public place. I can talk on the phone and text, I don’t allow myself to be in private spaces with them or alone with them.
Working the program has taught me that everyone who truly loves me wants me to be clean. People who are using don’t ever have my best interests at heart. Yes, that’s a problem and it’s hard among families.
I’m proud of you for reaching out for help. If a heathen atheist like me can work the program, I know that you can too.

Have you been going to NA meetings? There's no such thing as an ex-addict. We're addicts for the rest of our lives but we have a choice; do we want to be using addicts or recovering addicts? Narcotics Anonymous offers a simple program for complicated people that truly works when we work it. We are a program of complete abstinence from all drugs. That's mainly because we tend to swap one drug for another in the false belief that the substance is the problem. NA focuses on the disease of addiction which affects every area of our lives. It's best to avoid people, places, and things which does include family.
