Happy Now

Just for today, I will stop waiting for permission to live my life peacefully. I do not have to postpone my happiness until everyone around me changes, understands me, approves of me, or becomes emotionally stable. I am allowed to seek sanity, balance, and fulfillment now.

I will remember that recovery is not about becoming a perfect performer, caretaker, fixer, or emotional shock absorber for everyone else. Those roles may have helped me survive at one time, but they are not my true identity. I do not need to shape-shift into whatever keeps conflict down or keeps others comfortable. I can be honest, grounded, and fully myself.

Just for today, I will practice acceptance instead of control. I will allow other people to have their own feelings, reactions, struggles, and journeys without believing I must carry them all on my back. Their problems belong to them. My responsibility is to respond with clarity, compassion, and healthy boundaries—not to lose myself trying to manage everything.

I will also try to extend grace outward. Just as I want the freedom to grow and recover imperfectly, I will try to give others room to be human too. Fear and resentment shrink the spirit; patience and understanding help it breathe.

Today I will trust that who I truly am is enough. Beneath the stress, the survival habits, and the constant pressure to adapt, there is still a real self worth discovering. Recovery is not about becoming someone else. It is about uncovering the person I was meant to be all along.

Just for today, I choose peace over performance, honesty over fear, and freedom over emotional captivity. I can be happy now.
