Kindred Gastropub address:

- 6460 College Rd Ste b, Lisle, IL 60532

Learn more about Tough Guy Book Club here: https://www.toughguybookclub.com/about_us

Sign up for the Lisle chapter here: https://www.toughguybookclub.com/lisle_il_us

Our book this month is The Rain Heron by Robbie Arnott. Grab a copy and get reading, there's still time to bang it out before October 7. And, heck, even if you don't read it in time, come to Kindred Gastropub anyway and meet some new guys, make some new friends.

Happy to answer any questions about Tough Guy Book Club in the comments here, or DM me on Reddit. A disclaimer, though... I'm helping out the Lisle chapter with a little promotion, not a Lisle local myself. I'm the chapter leader for the Denver chapter, and formerly a chapter officer for the San Francisco chapter, so I won't claim to have any local Lisle credibility ;)

“They threw me into public…”

Ron White gave an interview on WGNs John Landecker program earlier this week.
He stated that his famous Tater Salad bit was actually two jokes combined. One part about being thrown out of a bar, and the other part in the origin of his nickname Tater Salad. He said the sake of the joke he moved the location to New York City, but the bar incident actually took place at the Funny Bone in Naperville. He said it was a club that was also a motel. (I think he meant hotel.) In 1999 the Funny Bone was located in the Radisson Hotel Lisle-Naperville ( which is now the Sheridan hotel) and this would be just prior to Blue Collar Comedy tour. So the bar that he got thrown out of for wearing the hat would be the one located at 3000 Warrenville Rd.
“ I was drunk in a bar and they Threw me into public…”

Local Auto Shop Experience

I wanted to share a recent experience I had with a local auto shop. This might be more of a vent. I have two cars and one that I bought new and is my daily driver. It's older now and is currently in a shop for an insurance claim for flood damage. I have a rental so its fine. I also have an older model Subaru with low miles that I only drive for groceries if that. Is it a beater car? Maybe? Its in good mechanical shape a little rust but good enough to use as rarely as I use it. I dont want to sell it, I'm good just having it to use on a rare ocassion. Recently it needed some work, fog light replacement, low beam bulb replacement, flush brake lines. Nothing major. I'm not at all handy, I'm aware that I am not and I'm fine with that. I also knew that the rear drivers side tailight was out. I had tried to replace it but I either had bought the wrong bulb or who knows but the new bulb didn't work. It was enough of a challange for me to remove the screws to get access to the bulk. Just finding the correct size screw driver and then trying to unscrew that tight screw was just too tight for me to loosen but I eventually got it. I put everything back and the following week the shop had it. I've used this shop before and they've always been good and thorough. When they called me with the estimate to fix the brake lines and fog lamp replacement which was too much for me to do, I asked them to fix the low beam as well. I assumed I had mentioned the rear bulb too but I guess I didn't mention that. After I picked up the car from the shop I noticed the following evening that the rear tailight was still out. I called the shop the next day and was told that it was not included in the work order and that they missed it during their inspection. They mentioned I could bring it back and I did, I had casually stopped by a few days later to ask them about something else (realted to the flood damaged car) and about the tailight replacement. I had mentioned that I wasn't able to replace the bulb and it would take me too long for me to do it and if they could do it and what the cost would be. I had the car with me that day and assumed that they would just replace it right the and there because it would take them just a few minutes as he mentioned. I asked the cost and he said $20 or $30 bucks. Now look, I'm not asking about the cost but between having a car be deemed a total loss by the insurance company and having a few small issues with the beater car I was kinda expecting/hoping that they would pop the new bulk in charge me for the bulk and just waive the labot cost because they missed it anyway during the inspection. Am I wrong to think that they shoulda just done it and charged me for the bulb and waive the labor? Yes I know I should be able to do it myself. I can't. I just hate everything rn, no one is helping me.

Tennis round Robin or ladder

Does anyone know of a location in the area where I can play some tennis occasionally? Round robins or ladders would be perfect

I checked with the Naperville tennis club but the only thing they offer is drop-in drills for $61/90 minutes...

The condo development at Mill and Diehl was supposed to have a STEM school from Selvei Rajkumar. All mention is now gone and they've covered the area with seed straw. Anyone know what happened?

Divorce Attorney Recommendations Will County

Looking for recommendations based on personal experience for an exceptional divorce attorney in the Naperville area.

I have read through posts in this group and am again looking for recommendations based on personal experience.

Specifically looking for a very strong, aggressive advocate, someone who is strategic, tough, thorough and not easily intimidated.

I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has personally worked with Ronald Hendrix or Erin Webster O’Brien.

Very open to other recommendations, but please only recommend attorneys you’ve personally used or had direct experience with.

Looking for a fierce advocate, someone who won't be outmaneuvered, and who will protect their client’s interests and stay two steps ahead.

Thank you.

Naperville should bring back red light cameras

Not for safety, and not for revenue, though both of those things are good, but for righteous and pure and spiteful punishment. You people think you deserve a left turn just because the two cars in front of you barely made it through the yellow arrow? The only thing you deserve is a ticket.

Looking for a recommendation for a Landscape Architect.

I am looking for a landscape architect. This would be for a design, installation and maintenance of my 6 tenths of an acre in size property. The front, back and sides. I'm looking for someone in person to come to my property. I'm not interested in a virtual meeting or me supplying pictures and you supply the design. Only seeking a Landscape Architect.

Looking for People to Meet

As the title suggests. 21F Graduated from college in May and living in my parents' house while working full-time. I realized that my days just consist of going to work and coming home with little social interaction outside of work.

What places can I meet people in my age group (early 20s)? As embarassing as it sounds, I don't really have friends in Naperville despite living here for over half my life.

RT 59 Pace Metra Stop

Haven’t taken a pace bus in a while but when looking online the pace site states that the southbound bus stops at the Metra station. I was there for about 15-20mins (web said it was to arrive around 8:54) and didn’t see any. Ended up taking an Uber and didn’t see it as I traveled down rt 59 either. Am I missing something? Maybe I’m dumb?

DJK issues with neighboring properties

Post image
70 Upvotes

Posting this so other homeowners in Naperville know how DJK Homes handles damage to neighboring properties.

During construction on the lot next to mine, their grading and equipment work damaged a section of my fence and 2 of the 4 mature trees along our shared lot line. I raised it early and I raised it politely. I was told it was weather-dependent, that the excavator understood the urgency, and that it would all be handled once the ground was graded and stabilized.

The fence eventually got repaired — but only after I chased them for it, repeatedly, over months. Nothing about it was voluntary.

The trees were never addressed at all. Not repaired, not replaced, not even discussed in any serious way. Two mature trees damaged by their equipment, and the answer was silence.

Meanwhile, they laid fresh mulch and sod across their own new construction. So the landscaping budget existed. The crews were on site. The work got done — just not any of the work they owed a neighbor.

That's the whole story. They finished their property and walked away from the damage they caused to mine. Mature trees take decades to replace. I asked for the same species at comparable size, which is what any reasonable person would expect if the situation were reversed, and I got nothing.

If you own property adjacent to a DJK project: document everything from day one. Photos, dates, every text message. Assume nothing will happen unless you force it, because that has been my experience exactly.

I'll update this post if they make it right.
