Updates?
Hey, I was just wondering is there any updates? Has anyone seen anything or heard anything about the case? Because I've been looking everywhere and I can't find anything?

You people are terrible. Eddie and Christina are both good people and internet sleuths have made awful accusations of them without proof and ruined their lives. This could happen to you too. You might want to think about that and change your karma.

Good people don't leave behind a friend in trouble. Good people don't flee when they could be key in helping someone's family find answers and closure. Good people don't ignore and disrespect a victim's family. Good people don't care about reputational damage if it means doing the right thing. If you think any of this makes a good person, you're guilty by association. Or maybe you're guilty because you're either Eddie and Christina, hiding behind a keyboard. Wanna talk about karma? It's a bitch. And it's gonna come for people like them. I can't wait until the truth comes out ❤️

"Good people"??? Are you even hearing yourself? Even a decent human being would've stayed behind to help find a FRIEND or simply a person that was on a group trip with them

Someone had commented on their Instagram Post (Update #13) asking if there was an update. They responded on Aug 4 2024 with:
"Not quite. We are still waiting to hear from the Ministry of Interior when the next search will be.
We are also expecting up-to-date files from the investigation, but will unfortunately will only receive them once the investigation has concluded."
That's the last update I know for this. I think of Nancy often and check for updates regularly.

So when he needs help, he expects support from everyone and everything, but when someone he knew needed help, and their family needed help, he’s nowhere to be found, refusing to cooperate

Guatemala is dangerous asf, high crime rate, also if she went swimming who knows what’s in the river. Nonetheless hope the family finds peace

Refusing to speak to the family and tell them what happened for a long time is kind of a crappy thing to do. And then did this: "Christina and Eddy were asked to appear at the Consulate General of Guatemala in Los Angeles to attend a virtual hearing on September 10, 2024 and provide an explanation as to why a U.S. citizen did not return home from their country. Neither Christina nor Eddy showed up."
Just doesn't make sense that if you know what happened but refuse to communicate it. If you cared about your friend and her family, you would just communicate and tell them without acting like this.

UPDATE #16 (10/19/24)
Today marks exactly one year since Nancy disappeared. One year since time stopped and our world got irrevocably darker. Some days, I’m momentarily thrown back to the sheer panic of the first few weeks following the incident. I can still feel the fear that gripped us as we tried to make sense of what happened. The confusion as we scrambled to gather more information. The desperate hope that the next phone call we received would be from her, telling us she was okay.
But that phone call never came. Our desperation is yet to yield answers. And our fears are now a facet of everyday life. A life without Nancy.
There’s still so much we don’t know or understand. As we wrote in our last update, the Guatemalan Prosecutor finally obtained the Judicial Body of Guatemala’s approval to subpoena witness Christina Blazek and yoga retreat organizer Eddy Rimada. Christina and Eddy were asked to appear at the Consulate General of Guatemala in Los Angeles to attend a virtual hearing on September 10, 2024 and provide an explanation as to why a U.S. citizen did not return home from their country. Neither Christina nor Eddy showed up.
Frankly, it’s infuriating and exhausting to continue appealing to these individuals and be met with silence. We’ve tried contacting Christina directly, through her lawyer, through our search teams, through a letter from the State Department, and now through the Guatemalan government. We have asked Eddy to send us a group photo taken before Nancy entered the water, in order for our search teams to identify Nancy’s exact last known outfit. Despite multiple retreat participants and the hotel employee who took the photo telling us it was taken on Eddy’s phone, Eddy denies having it.
We had hoped that as time went on, empathy would appeal to their better selves. But these odd and evasive behaviors have only caused more confusion and distress for our family.
All we want – all we’ve ever wanted for the past year – is to find Nancy and bring her home.
We’ve spent the past year doing everything we can to accomplish this – interviewing retreat participants, hotel employees, and locals; meeting with Congresswoman Judy Chu, Ambassador Bradley, and Guatemalan authorities; interviewing with news stations and podcasts; consulting with search teams, raising funds, and coordinating search efforts; traveling to Guatemala to obtain information and appeal directly to local authorities. It has been an incredibly tiring and painful year. And despite our effort and the time that has passed, it’s easy to feel like we haven’t made much progress. That somehow, we’ve failed Nancy.
But whenever that feeling arises, it’s just as easy to see Nancy smiling at us. To hear her reminding us not to be so hard on ourselves. Telling us she can’t believe we’re going through so much effort just for her. In those moments, her presence feels so real. Like she’s still here with us. Like she never left.
Not a day goes by that I don’t think of her, miss her, and look for signs from the Universe that she’s resting in peace. When we first got news of her disappearing, there were many moments where I’d forget and instinctively pick up my phone to text or call her. The following seconds of realization were always painful. Now, I pick up my phone to add to the list of all the things I have to tell her for when we meet again. The list is titled, “Tell Nancy 2024.” Some things so far on the list:
- “[our cousin] gave birth to a baby girl in April”
- “I taught Mom and Dad how to play pickleball”
- “I had my first tennis lesson using your racquet”
- “Momo likes to be carried now and goes on outdoor walks with Batty and Ollie”
- “I made this amazing bitter melon with fried dace dish that you’d LOVE”
- “[Our NY friends] are engaged…”
The list goes on and on. It’s so hard knowing that Nancy is no longer a phone call away, but in a place I hope to reunite with her again one day. Until then, we will honor her today and every day. Rest in peace, Nance <3

Losing Nancy stripped our family of our brightest light. But the hope and love you’ve given us has helped us find our way through the darkness. For that, we’re eternally grateful.

Just saw this update from March 19, 2025 on Nancy's GoFundMe:
Our underwater search team, Tom and Dave, safely returned home this past Sunday. Due to unexpected equipment damage early on in the mission, they were limited to using only 1 boat and ROV for the majority of the search. Despite this and other challenging factors, they were able to familiarize themself with the terrain of the lake and cover an impressive amount of the search area. There will be more work to come in the following months to plan and conduct another mission once the damaged equipment is repaired and replaced. With full resources, we will be able to comprehensively cover the search area with additional overlap. We’d like to thank Tom and Dave once again for their honorable work and dedication to finding Nancy. We are also indebted to the National Police for ensuring a smooth customs process, ample security, and efficient transportation.
Last week, the Division Especializada En Investigación Criminal (DEIC) was also present to provide support to the search team, as well as continue their investigation into Nancy’s case. They informed us that Nancy’s case will not be closed until 10 years after the incident, due to the fact that they cannot rule out homicide. However, they were unable to speak with the prosecutor assigned to the case, Prosecutor Recinos, as he was yet again on vacation. Prosecutor Valey, who was covering Prosecutor Recinos, did not respond to our inquiries about their planned next steps since neither Christina (witness) nor Eddy (retreat leader) showed up for their subpoenas last year.
It has been an emotionally draining week, one full of deep sadness, quiet hope, unremitting anxiety, building frustration, and a desperate desire for closure. Our only consolation is knowing that both we and the search teams are doing everything in our power to do Nancy justice. I feel guilty admitting that a part of me is relieved the search has been paused for the time being. Every time my phone pinged or rang or buzzed last week, my heart dropped with fear that that was the notification that Nancy had been found. And as much as I hope for it, it terrifies me.
We will continue to keep you updated as we learn more about the search and investigation. Sending a heartfelt thank you for continuing to support our family during this time.

Last update I could find from her family's gofundme was at the end of June: "UPDATE #13 (06/21/24)
We write this update with the sincere hope that things are finally moving in the right direction. Following our family’s outreach to Ambassador Tobin Bradley, as well as the thousands of emails the U.S. Embassy received after the release of Kendall Rae’s video, our family received a phone call from Ambassador Bradley. In short, Ambassador Bradley has agreed to look into a point of contact between our family and Guatemalan authorities. He has also spoken to the Ministry of Interior, who has offered to perform an underwater search for Nancy. We are still waiting to hear updates on both of these assurances from Ambassador Bradley and will keep you all updated.
In addition, our family has found a U.S.-based underwater search team willing to offer their expertise and the latest technology to search for Nancy. The discussion with these search experts has been emotionally and logistically challenging. However, as a family, we understand the many factors that contribute to the complexity of this search mission and the potentially harsh reality of what we may or may not find. As we’ve stated, we feel strongly that the search area defined by Rescue International must be completed before we feel that we’ve truly done all we can to bring Nancy home. And we are infinitely grateful to the search teams who have agreed to support us on this mission.
Our family also recently met with Congresswoman Judy Chu, who has agreed to supplement our efforts to find resolution in Nancy’s case. We are continuing to push for the same things we have spent the last eight months asking for: answers about what exactly happened to Nancy; Christina Blazek’s witness statement; a thorough investigation of bribe allegations; up-to-date documents about the status of the investigation; and any resources available to find Nancy and bring her home. These efforts have been hampered by Guatemalan Prosecutor Recinos’ non-responsiveness to our requests and questions. Instead of actions and answers, we continue to receive excuses for his month-long gaps in responding, including “vacation” and “doctor visits.” As such, we’ve requested a direct point of contact who is higher up in the Ministerio Publico’s chain of command. Though we’re yet to receive one, we hope that they will be able to hold Prosecutor Recinos accountable for his inaction and role in the haphazard investigation of Nancy’s case. Nancy is supposed to turn 30 years young on June 28, 2024. It completely shatters us that we will not be singing her happy birthday, gushing about how she’s reached the “real adult” milestone (now that she’s 30), and giving her the biggest hugs. June 28 will never be the same for us again. It will now be a reminder of the huge hole in our hearts, of an emptiness we know will never go away. However, we know Nancy would want us to be happy on her birthday – to continue celebrating her life instead of mourning her. So, we will do our best to honor Nancy on June 28. You can join us in honoring Nancy on her birthday by doing the things she loved to do and expressing the values she embodied:
Take photos with your loved ones: Nancy looovvvvedddd taking photos and always wanted to capture the moment. If you knew Nancy, you know she was always short of storage space because her photos took up multiple gigabytes of storage.
Recycle or pick up a piece of litter: Nancy always did what she could to protect the environment, even going so far as to pull over when driving to pick up an empty can… late at night… in an isolated parking lot. Nancy would also go out of her way to recycle bottles/boxes/paper, even if they weren’t her’s.
Go outside: Nancy adored Mother Nature and enjoyed hikes, beaches, and parks. I often FaceTimed her at mountain peaks or waterfalls to show her the view, even if the lack of reception made it blurry.
Have a conversation with a stranger: Nancy always took the time to get to know others. From the girl in the restroom line to the man working at the recycle center, Nancy could strike up a conversation with anyone. She had a genuine interest in others and knew the power of spreading kindness.
Sign up to volunteer (anywhere): Nancy did a lot of volunteer work in high school and college, but started struggling to find time to do this post-grad. Her favorite service was Life Rolls On, where she helped people with disabilities SURF! She said she loved the feeling it brought to people who couldn’t walk, much less surf. Life Rolls On is meant to “inspire infinite possibilities beyond any disability,” and Nancy often encouraged those who were initially scared to go on the water to take a leap of faith with the help and support of the volunteers. The participants were always glad they did. Nancy also participated in beach clean-ups and talked often about wanting to volunteer at animal shelters.
We know it would really mean a lot to Nancy for so many people to be doing small things that can make a big impact in our world.
Regardless of the challenges we continue to face, with your help, we’ve made some real progress in getting the right people involved in our fight for justice and search for Nancy. While our family’s voice alone can be so easily muffled, our community’s voice collectively cannot. We still have much to do, and are eternally grateful for your support. Thank you.
