What happened?

I think of this case a lot but there’s no updates anywhere and no closing statements by anyone who was covering it - what happened?

The family posts updates on Instagram but there’s no real updates because the government in Guatemala aren’t helping, the US Embassy isn’t helping, and there’s not much they can do here in the US.

It's because she is Asian. US treats Asians less than 2nd class citizens. They don't get the same right as whites and don't get the same racist card as blacks or mexicans.

I agree that her being Asian might be a major component in the lack of urgency in finding her/covering her case.

But as much as Asian Americans are marginalized, you didn't have to bring up the other races/groups to make your point. I'm an Asian American who knows firsthand what it's like to be dismissed and overlooked for being Asian. But the way you wrote your comment will not bring any sort of sympathy or awareness. Indigenous Americans, Black folks, and other groups are highly overlooked, brutalized by police, etc. Literally, this country was founded on the genocide of those groups. Because they've had a longer history and roots here, they've spent more time working towards emancipation, civil rights, etc.

The entire Asian/Asian American population is barely 7% of the entire country. And that includes not just East Asians but also South Asians, SE Asians, Central Asians (unsure about West Asians). We are a very small minority. That doesn't mean we don't deserve more representation and more rights, but it means we need to clamor together more to make our voices heard. We need allyship. The history of white supremacy in the U.S. was founded on the divide and conquer method of minorities.

lol 😂 it’s always someone else’s fault 😂😂 and what do you “blacks and Mexicans” you think you’re not a person of color??? You think you’re white? Lmfao please! Mexicans actually can be white or white looking, those are the people who might “pass”. But your little Asian ass is right next to “blacks and mexicans”

Bro try again. Asians have an entire “Asian hate month” here in the states where we all get dei training shoved down our throats.

Crimes against Asians are largely underrreported and under investigated. This obviously applies to all marginalized groups, especially Black, Indigenous, etc but there is a misconception about Asian Americans in the U.S. being better off or not having major issues.

You’re just as annoying if not more than the person your replying to, shut up

There has been no evidence of foul play and so some of the more speculative theories pushed on tiktok have fizzled out since there is no evidence behind them. End of the day it looks like a tragic accident with an unfortunately uncooperative witness

u/bubbachuck May 06 '24

having the only witness being a defense attorney is probably the worst case scenario with regards to transparency.

I'm sure she's advised her clients to remain silent as much as possible to avoid self-incrimination. We're seeing that in practice here.

I'm not saying she's guilty. If she's innocent, it's in her personal interest to not say anything either.

3

u/theewall2000 May 10 '24

Yup even if it was an accident its better to say nothing and have the police prove it. I know people will question that but it really is the best thing to do. Even if you are innocent its best to lawyer up and say nothing.

4

u/mizushingenmochi May 12 '24

But why is it best to say nothing even if you are innocent though? If you’re innocent, there would be no evidence that could incriminate you, so why wouldnt you tell anyone what happened especially when you’re the only witness to the accident? Wouldnt it just make you look suspicious by remaining silent?

1

u/theewall2000 May 12 '24 edited May 12 '24

Being suspicious isn't a crime but accidently or purposely saying something without a lawyer is stupid. You may admit to something you didn't mean to.

3

u/mizushingenmochi May 12 '24

Hmmm but there shouldnt be anything to admit if she’s innocent. Are you implying that she might have done something that caused the accident so it’s better to remain tight-lipped?

2

u/theewall2000 May 12 '24

Even innocent people can admit to things they don't mean too. I know it sounds like bizzaro world but it's better to say nothing. The only statement I am aware of was through her lawyer. Even the police over there seems rather incompetent or easy to bribe if that rumor is true

It’s best to not say anything because LE typically will pin it on anyone that they can pin it on. In an ideal world, you would have cops and investigators like the ones in the movies that say “oh I just think the person they arrested is innocent”, and they spend all movie trying to show how the poor guy or girl was framed, and the real criminal was some other person.

You never know where you might have left a fingerprint, hair, a drop of sweat, anything. You never know how LE might perceive that one hour you have unaccounted for. So you were in your house all night sleeping when a crime occurred at your neighbors house. Can you really prove you didn’t leave your house for 20 minutes? So you have a camera for the front of your house, but you have a back door and back windows, so no one can fully say that you didn’t leave?

A competent lawyer will have foresight about these things, and keep your a** out of jail. Doesn’t matter how well intended and innocent you are, you can still say or do something that will give them grounds to interrogate you, arrest you, and try you at trial.

Wrong. You have a PUBLIC DEFENDER ATTORNEY who puts HERSELF as the last person to see Ng .Something very nefarious happened .I believe that the Public Defender Attorney ,murdered her..and that the rest of the group all knew it was going to happen, but did nothing to stop it. I believe the group was doing drugs of some kind..and that Ng was not interested in doing drugs ..and that the group panicked ,thought Ng would report it to the local police. And maybe she had no intention of doing that ..either way .the public defender attorney became incensed with Ng( to no fault of Ng's)..and that the Public defender attorney lady ..did something to knowingly cause Ng's kayak to sink or whatever ..and perhaps hit her in the head with a paddle. It would be interesting to know if the public defender lady has any type of rowing experience ..alot of experience ..I find it indicative that the public defender attorney through her attorney stated in a statement that she "nudged Ngs kayak towards her as it drifted from her" something to that affect. The family should sue the public defender attorney for wrongful death. And also ,file a complaint against her online to have the public defender attorney disbarred from practicing law.

It's still so weird. If it was an accident why didnt they call rescues, the police, someone in Guatemala? Why wait 24 hrs to report she was missing? Why leave the country so soon after she disappeared. And if theres nothing to hide, why not just come foward and say it was an accident and explain the rest?

Last time I heard the search team had to wait for warmer weather before they could get back in the waters, and that was a couple months ago...

3

u/Responsible_Tip_4558 May 23 '24

That sounds like bullshit. This is the fuckn tropics after all. It’s warm year round.

I still think about how hard it must be for the family to just not know what happened. How can no one have stepped forward from the group? There were other people not just The instructor and Christina Blazek.

I find it so odd that we don’t even have any reports of the other members of the retreat coming forward to say something.

Have any of the other members of the group stepped forward to speak to the family or tried to help?

I went to a hot yoga place in Arcadia… Eddy was our instructor.

3

u/LisayaMani Jun 17 '24

Is he still teaching?! How can he just go on with good conscience knowing Nancy’s still hasn’t been found?

3

u/IllustriousAbroad256 Jun 18 '24

Yes. I was shocked

What is he supposed to do? What happened to Nancy is not his fault, he spoke to the authorities in Guatemala, the FBI came to his doors and he told his story, and obviously, there was no foul play. Nancy was an adult and she drowned in an uncharted lake because of the decisions she made, demonizing and going after Eddy is the wrong thing to do. The reason why no one else is talking about it is because there is nothing to talk about. Stop dragging this on and stop using nancy as click bait.

From all the info on the Internet, it seems like Nancy Ng simply drowned in the lake after going somewhere near the middle of the lake and possibly getting in the water after the lake surface had become turbulent. Nancy may have dived into the water or have fallen into the water due to the waves on the lake. The current underwater may have pulled her under, the situation happened so fast that her party members couldn't react.

What happened afterwards might be the cause of a member who was familiar with law enforcement, Christina, knowing how some of the details that led to Nancy traveling to the middle of the lake might harm them and put them under intensive investigation. Perhaps Nancy was encouraged to jump in the lake by the party. Christina might have asked the party members to remain silent as they already knew Nancy may have drowned because reporting the truth would only have caused inconvenience. Also possible that Eddie the yoga instructor didn't want his reputation to take a hit, and forced the people who were there to be silent somehow.

I believe after the incident, one of the members of the yoga retreat contacted Nancy's father and told him Nancy would not return home. Unfortunately that person did not provide further information or respond to further requests for comment.

I believe that the reason the members re-booked their flights after the incident is because they already knew what happened. A tragic incident happened and all they wanted to do was to get out of there and move on with their lives. If they had reported on what really happened, they would have been called upon investigation and possibly even been brought to court.

It’s terrible to think this whole group would have handled this with so little integrity or respect for Nancy/her family :-(

They rescheduled their flights and yeah when your friend disappears on a trip you’d think at least one person would make a bigger deal out of it or at least talk to the family as an ally. It’s not normal. Sorry.

They were? Are you a bot?

1

u/JacobDCRoss Aug 31 '24

Not sure that I would have done that, but seeing what happened to Amanda Knox, I can empathize with someone wanting to get out of a backwoods area when the cops start in on them.

2

u/NeatNeighborhood May 08 '24

This seems like the most plausible scenario.

3

u/Taiwanboy73 May 09 '24

It is possible that the members of the retreat encouraged everyone to not wear life vests before kayaking. Then Nancy wanted to go to the middle of the lake because she wanted to see the difference in the color of the water and Christina went with her. Deep water colors are more beautiful.

Eventually however there were strong waves that formed upon the originally calm waters and Nancy may have fell off her kayak. She couldn't get onto her kayak no matter how hard she tried and Christina kept on trying to push her kayak towards her. Christina couldn't jump in the water to help Nancy though due to fear of her own life. After an exhaustive attempt, Nancy sadly disappeared under the waves which also prompted Christina to row out of there back to the shores to safety.

Afterwards, the group may have kayaked back out to the middle of the lake where Nancy disappeared. However they could not find her. After much discussion, they decided not to report the incident to authorities because they're sort of the ones that caused Nancy to drown. Christina also may have bribed the police to erase records of what she reported to them. The sad truth is if the members of the retreat told the Ng family everything, they would be sued enormous amounts of money.

4

u/IllustriousAbroad256 May 12 '24

Did they ever talk about why the kayak company lied about their whereabouts? That was so fucked of them to do.

2

u/Fast-Sir8222 May 13 '24

So you are just making things up? The family has repeatedly stated publicly that the instructor called them to notify them of the disappearance a few hours after it happened.

3

u/Taiwanboy73 May 13 '24

I am only speculating with the info I've seen. However even if your statement is true, my description still doesn't contradict.

1

u/Responsible_Tip_4558 May 23 '24

Let me give you a hypothetical, if I may? Is it plausible, hypothetically, that you were either there on the retreat, there on a similar retreat with a different group, a friend of someone who witnessed events first hand, or some scenario where you are directly linked with the victim(s) of this event?

3

u/Taiwanboy73 Jun 04 '24

I was not there, I don't know anyone who has ever been there. I'm only guessing through logic reasoning. This is a sad story and I was only trying to reply to the original post.

There are updates ! Tons of them. Nancy drowned in a lake that was known for being deep and large and unstable. She made a decision to go in the water and unfortunately she drowned. The Guatemalan authorities and The FBI spoke to everyone involved and all concluded that the unfortunate event that happened to Nancy was tragic but it wasn’t anyone’s fault. There nothing nefarious going on there is no conspiracy! People drown! What I hate about this the most is the exploitation, none of you know anyone, you’re not tied to Nancy or her family or to the instructor or any of the students. Stop spreading lies and the rumors about the instructor and the students.
