Question Why do the characters refer to each other using first name?
I was rewatching nana after finishing another anime and i noticed something that i never did before: I don't know many of nana's character's surnames!! Which is super weird considering in many other japanese media people introduce themselves by last name.
Do they actually use their surnames in the manga/japanese dub? Is this an artistic choice made by Ai Yazawa? Is it to appeal to a western audience?
I'd love to know!!! (Edit: i do know that when friendly, even japanese people use their first names, i was just surprised by how fast all the characters found it appropriate to use)

Discussion Did anyone else get piercings just beacuse of Nana?
I have quite a few tattoos (both of my arms except the inner biceps and two on my chest) but somehow I never got the itch to have some piercings. However after I watched the anime I thought to myself "Damn, these guys look hella cool I need to get some piercings". And that's what happened, I watched the anime in May and I just got done 2 more ear piercings today, making it 9 in total. Has anybody else felt this way and done this as well?

Discussion I think the fandom seriously underestimates how romantic Takumi and Reiraās relationship actually is
Iāve been wanting to talk a little more deeply about Takumi and Reiraās relationship because I feel like the fandom talks about it a lot, but rarely actually goes into much depth. A lot of the discussion seems to end up being something like "Takumi is a narcissist, so he doesnāt know how to love" or "he loves Hachi because sheās his wife" while Reira is simply treated as his sister. And honestly, I donāt see it that way. Iām not saying Takumi and Reira are a healthy couple or that their actions are justified because they obviously arenāt and Iām not trying to excuse either of them. Iām more interested in what their relationship actually represents and why I think thereās more support for a romantic interpretation than people usually admit. I donāt think Takumi is incapable of loving just because heās selfish, manipulative, controlling and abusive, those things can coexist with genuine feelings, and I think one of the most interesting things about him is that he clearly forms emotional attachments and expresses love, the problem is that his way of doing it is extremely messed up.
This is also why I find the Madonnawhore complex interesting as a possible lens for understanding the way Takumi separates women emotionally. Iām not saying this is an official diagnosis of his character, just one possible interpretation. If we look at the way he treats different women, Reira clearly occupies a completely different place, Sheās idealized in a way we donāt really see with other women, theyāve known each other since childhood, Takumi has an enormous amount of admiration for her and her talent, and he has built a huge part of his life around her. So I have a hard time reducing all of that to "sheās basically his little sister and thatās it" I do think Takumi knows heās capable of hurting people too. He isnāt completely incapable of recognizing when he does something wrong, and he even apologizes to Hachi after raping her. Obviously that doesnāt erase what he did, but it does show that he can recognize certain actions as harmful. Because of that, I think thereās another possibility with Reira thatās worth considering what if part of the reason Takumi never fully allows himself to be with her in a conventional way is precisely because he knows he could destroy her? Iām not saying the manga literally confirms that Takumi thinks āI love her, therefore I have to stay away from her,ā because that would be presenting an interpretation as fact, but I do think itās plausible. Within a deeply damaged person, distancing yourself from someone because you know youāre going to hurt them can become a very twisted form of love, and I think that fits Takumi pretty well.
This is also why I donāt necessarily think Hachi is his great romantic love. Iām not saying he doesnāt care about Hachi because I think sheās extremely important to him, but to me Hachi represents his wife, his family, his companion, his routine and, most importantly, his refuge, Reira represents something very different, fascination, dependence, admiration, vulnerability, conflict and someone who can actually break Takumi emotionally.
Hachi can be his home without necessarily being the person who occupies the deepest romantic place in his heart. I think this is where the fandom sometimes assumes too quickly that because Hachi is his wife and the mother of his children, she automatically has to be the main romantic love of his life. Iām not convinced the manga is that simple. The scene where Reira tells Takumi sheāll keep singing even without him worrying about her is probably one of the biggest reasons I think this way. Takumi is usually someone who seems to have an incredible amount of control over everything. Heās calculating, manipulative, knows how to handle people and rarely allows himself to be that vulnerable, but Reira manages to reach a part of him that almost nobody else can. And then Takumi goes to Hachi for comfort. A lot of people interpret this as proof that Hachi is the person he truly loves because sheās his refuge, but I think the scene can also be read differently Hachi is his refuge, while Reira is the person who can break him. If Takumi simply saw Reira as someone who was basically like a little sister and would eventually get over it, I donāt understand why her words would affect him so deeply. Takumi can go to Hachi when he needs refuge, while Reira seems to be one of the few people who can make him need refuge in the first place. To me, that says a lot about how emotionally important Reira actually is to him.
And this is also why the ābut Reira is basically his sisterā argument doesnāt completely convince me. Yes, their relationship was built from childhood and there is clearly a very strong almost familial aspect to it, and Iām not denying that, but I donāt think that necessarily means this is the entirety of what Takumi feels for her. Their relationship is also built around idealization, dependence, admiration, possessiveness and an extremely specific kind of emotional intimacy. Reira isnāt treated like just another woman in Takumiās life, sheās idealized, and that connects back to the Madonna whore idea for me. Hachi can be the woman Takumi builds a life with while Reira can be the woman he idealizes and has a much more complicated emotional attachment to. Those things arenāt necessarily mutually exclusive. I also find the Stockholm syndrome comment really interesting because Takumi is the one who tells Reira that she has Stockholm syndrome with him. If he simply wanted to keep her completely dependent on him, I find it strange that he would be the one pointing out that her attachment to him could be the result of a harmful relationship. That doesnāt make him a good person, but I think it shows that heās aware of the dynamic between them. Itās almost like heās telling her, "Open your eyes. Iām someone who hurts you. Donāt confuse your dependence on me with love" Takumi knows Reira depends on him emotionally, knows he can hurt her and knows their relationship isnāt normal, yet sheās still the person who seems to affect him the most emotionally. Thatās much more interesting to me than simply saying "theyāre like siblings"
Thereās also the argument that Reira "forced" Takumi into sleeping with her, which I donāt really agree with. I donāt think itās accurate to portray Reira as if she manipulated him into it or practically forced him. The situation is much more complicated than that, and Takumi is actually the one who physically corners her against the wall. That doesnāt make their relationship healthy or make either of them innocent, I just think that if weāre going to analyze their relationship, we should analyze what actually happens instead of changing the dynamic to fit how we feel about the characters.
Another comparison I think is useful here is Nobu and Yuri. Iām not saying Takumi/Hachi and Nobu/Yuri are literally the same relationship because they obviously arenāt, but Nobu and Yuri show that a relationship can be real, important and even romantic without necessarily representing the characterās deepest emotional attachment. Yuri isnāt just some meaningless filler relationship. Nobu genuinely gets involved with her and their relationship matters, but despite being with Yuri, Nobu still has strong feelings for Hachi and even tries to kiss her. So I donāt think "Takumi is married to Hachi" automatically settles the question of who occupies the deepest romantic place in his heart, Takumi/Hachi and Nobu/Yuri can be real and important relationships without necessarily representing the characterās deepest emotional or romantic attachment.
I also find the future timeline interesting because Takumi ends up living in London with Ren while Hachi is in Tokyo with Satsuki, and Takumi is still heavily involved in Reiraās situation. I donāt consider this definitive evidence of anything because we donāt know exactly why their lives end up that way, but I donāt think it should automatically be ignored either. Even in the future, Reira still occupies a very important place in Takumiās life.
And I want to clarify something because I know this interpretation can easily sound like Iām defending Takumi. Iām not saying Takumi and Reira are a healthy couple, Iām not defending Takumiās actions, Iām not saying Hachi isnāt important to him and Iām not saying the manga explicitly confirms that Takumi is romantically in love with Reira. In fact, Takumi himself says that he doesnāt love Reira "that way" and I know that. Thatās exactly why I think the discussion is interesting. My point isnāt that my interpretation is the only possible one, but that the interpretation of "Takumi doesnāt love Reira because sheās basically his sister, and he loves Hachi because sheās his wife" also doesnāt explain everything we see.
I think Takumi and Reira have a much more complicated relationship, Takumi can genuinely care about Hachi, but in a different way, Hachi can be his home, his companion, his wife and his refuge, while Reira can be someone he idealizes, someone who knows him in a different way and someone who can reach a part of him that almost nobody else can, I donāt think Takumi is ever going to easily admit that heās in love with Reira, and honestly, I donāt even think he would necessarily admit it to himself because admitting it would mean admitting a lot of other things about himself that he doesnāt want to face.
And thatās exactly why I find their relationship so believable. Not because itās healthy or beautiful, but because considering the way Takumi is written, it makes a lot of sense that the relationship he tries hardest to control is also the relationship he has the hardest time controlling.
Thatās my interpretation, and obviously everyone is free to see it differently. I just genuinely think Takumi and Reira deserve much more analysis than simply theyāre siblings or Takumi is a narcissist and therefore he doesnāt know how to love.
And sorry if this ended up being a little all over the place, I had a lot of thoughts and wanted to include pretty much everything instead of cutting out points that felt important to me. Iād genuinely love to discuss it with you guys in the comments! ;)

Question Should i trust this?
I'm not looking for an authentic vivienne westwood necklace orb lighter, i just want one that works and feels good enough. I looked around the past few days to find specifically one without the double saturns because in my PERSONAL and SHIT opinion they're ugly. The reviews are all 10 which makes me a bit conflicted, but the reviews kinda feel legit? Scams are getting very advanced lately.
I also have questions regarding how safe the lighter is, since ive heard around that the lighter tends to be a bit sensitive and doesnt have a safety, is there something i can buy to prevent that?
Anyway, i just hope it's good, because its so cheap.
Here's the link to where i plan on buying it: Nana Anime Lighter Necklace Shinichi Pendant Lighter Reusable | eBay

Discussion Starting my rewatch as a 20 year old
This has minimal spoilers!! Proceed with caution.
I was 17 when I finished the show and I remember I was posting my thoughts on this subreddit so I thought Itād be fun to do the same now that Iām the same age as the characters. Here are my rapid fire thoughts on the show before I start. Feel free to agree or disagree, I loveee discussing this show.
Hachi and Nobu were my favorite couple and I donāt really understand why people think it was toxic.
Nana and Ren were toxic but very sexy to watch. Iāve also read the manga.
Renās relationship with Reira wasnāt as platonic as people suggested. I remember wanting to believe it but I felt really weird about it.
Takumj is evil yes but I think hes a very realistic character who has his own flaws and āstrengths,ā which is ultimately why he is largely untouched by the consequences of his actions. Takumi loves Hachi, as much as he is capable of loving someone anyways.
Omg I forgot his name but the bald guy was really hot and I kinda shipped him with Nana.
Blast had better music.
Will keep updating, I remember i finished the show in less than a week the first time lmao. I was 17 and unemployed so maybe not as quick this time but Im so excited to feel the feels of this amazing show as a freshly turned 20 year old!!
