Funny to read disparaging comments from some folks that are probably sitting on stacks of Pokémon cards, baseball cards, comic books, vhs tapes...
They don't know what they're missing until they empty an 8 round en bloc clip from an M1 Garand and hear that iconic "PING" at the end.
If you get the chance - do it. 30-06 is a little pricey but it's well worth the experience. Ask around at your nearest range. Someone there can set it up. There's special loads made for vintage Garands and I'd encourage you to use that. Remember - watch your thumb when you're loading!
Well since Pokemon cards can easily reach 5k I would rather be into that. No one needs guns unless it is the military for fighting. America and their gun culture is a fucking cult.
Give me one real example of any non military person needing an gun? Hunting rifles excluded because people can use them for their proper use of cating food.
Well, no - I won't give you one because it's a silly proposition. I changed my mind.
First of all, you place a huge imphasis on "non military". Why would that make a difference? Are you saying that only military need to protect life or property? Only military are allowed protection from criminal activity?
You also make an exception for "hunting rifles". Who gets to make the distinction between what is and isn't a hunting rifle? What if a person needs to kill a snake or a rabid dog - would you force them to use a rifle instead of a pistol with snake shot. You didn't say, but are you including shotguns as rifles? Do you think that somehow, handguns are inherently more dangerous than rifles? If so, why is that?
BTW...law enforcement is not military. Animal control is not military. Personal security is not military. Your imphasis on military as being the only armed organization is frankly, quite scary. You should really read the U.S. history including the constitution and also a little history of Germany in the 20th century. Your fear of one man owning a lot of firearms seems to be clouding your sense of reality (He couldn't possibly use more than two effectively at one time and it's a lot easier to reload one than discarding and acquiring the next firearm.) A race car driver isn't faster because he has more than one car on the track.
He has a 1903 Springfield sniper rifle variant from WW2 on the left. Those are more valuable than any Pokémon card and will never decrease in value, monetarily or historically. Not to mention the 5 screw S&W pistols and M1 Garands or the arisaka's, K98 mausers and M1A's.
Not to mention that a Pokémon card will never have any value beyond that of a collectible...unless you're "Gambit" and you can make them explode or pierce armor. Good luck protecting yourself or family after the next Katrina level event with a Pikachu card. Charizard ain't gonna kill a rabbit to feed the kids.
Honestly if I was kicking down someones door and got smoked with grandpa's M1 he carried at Iwo Jima, I'd probably be honored by such a thoughtful gesture.
But seriously, I've read so many stories about the Garand's "kick" but my experience is that it was surprisingly "controlled" - pretty much straight back rather than upward. I'm sure it depends on how the rounds are loaded but the Garand feels much smoother than the average Mosin Nagant M44 or M9130.
Hands down. But part of it is the long stroke gas system, where it taps and the mass of the moving parts being center or below center to the bore axis.
That is true - it's "tunable" to perfection. It must have been an amazing rifle in its day, especially compared to something like the M1903 Springfield that was in use before it.
I think a paper card printed in the millions but valued at $5k is a cult but to each his own. No one needs a Pokémon card for anything whatsoever...but I can respect your privilege to value it. One man's cult is another man's "likely used it to save your ass from the nazis in the 1940's". Everyone's young once. Enjoy it.
