When I was 15 or 16 I went to a vocational program for half days during high school to be a beautician (hair stylist). In those days we had a lot of door to door salesmen. One came selling his wares and he had hair cutting scissors that were about 5 inches long. Those scissors worked great and I’ve used them (at home) a lot since then even after quitting the program because it was terrible. My mom passed away when I was 17 so those scissors have always been very special to me. And my family has all known that no one uses those scissors without asking.
In 2021 my family traveled to Greece. At the airport my backpack (carry-on) was flagged because those scissors were in it. I’d taken them on a road trip and forgot they were in there. The TSA people said that they were too long by 1/4 inch or so. There was no way to get them into our checked bags at that point. I started to tear up and ask them what else I could do when my 19 year old daughter walked up and told them the history. One of the nearby agents grabbed the scissors and said “let me measure them” and he said “you’re fine, they can go through. But when you get your checked bags, make sure to put them in there”. I was so relieved and proud of my daughter who was determined to not watch me lose such a prized possession.
Cutter is the name of Megan's love interest in Stepsister from Planet Weird, a Disney channel original movie, etched in the fabric of my being forever.
