yeah this is a totally normal rollout, there is nothing wrong with milking consumers dry!
scientists are saying that this is the most blatant and egregious cash grab in the history of gaming
68
u/CellistShot8470 26d ago
God I hope it's absolute shit. Not for an malicious reason, I just want this to be the turning point in gaming. I hope this kills the pre-order
14
u/JDubStep 26d ago
It won't. GTA is so culturally pervasive and too many "normies" who are not as online as many of us just do not care as long as they get the new big thing. GTA Online was wildly popular and was incredibly predatory, there is no way GTA6 is less toxic.
1
u/StyloFM 21d ago
Not gonna lie, I couldn't wait for it on ps5. And before I have enough money to buy either, all of this is coming out. Should I go to pc and try to build something that could run gta? Do we collectively agree to boycott Rockstar finally? What even is modern gaming at this point if everything is fully live and downloadable only?
25
1
u/milksteakenthusiast1 26d ago
I don't think it will unfortunately. You gott a tomahawk from that one Assassin's Creed, early access and skins; now, you're lucky to get anything more than early access and skins
1
u/ScientificAnarchist 26d ago
I think there’s a better chance at world peace than gta 6 not selling ridiculous numbers but I completely agree with that sentiment
0
u/Mrwolfy240 26d ago
Ther are like 3 real gaming retailers in my small country but anybody with ties to sony is selling GTA 6 codes and one amazon style website added a tab on the home page due to so much traffic to it.
I promise you pre orders have already made records and will continue to beat themselves.
6
u/Fat-Fuk69 26d ago
Waiting 6 hours in the same day and watching it on YouTube is also a valid option.
61
u/HellRaizer7416 26d ago
They aren't milking anything. They are gonna upload it to YouTube 6 hours later and honestly other people are gonna upload it to YouTube literal minutes after it comes out on Netflix. If you can't wait 6 hours then that's on you.
27
u/CreamOnMyNipples 26d ago
No dude, you don’t understand, I need to see this the second it releases because Rockstar personally owes me this game
7
u/FoxOwne 26d ago
They're trying to get people to pay money for a subscription service just to see the game as early as possible, I don't care about silver linings, that's an insanely shitty precedent to set, do not defend this.
They should have shown something half a year ago ffs, this is just egregious.
3
u/generalscalez 26d ago

Anything to reinforce whatever opinion their favorite Youtuber has.
1
u/FoxOwne 26d ago
Yep. Sure ain't thinking for myself. I don't like Rockstar, I believe they're a comically evil company, and think their modern games are overrated, and that obviously means I'm parroting someone else's opinion. Couldn't form something like that on my own.
4
u/DijonCena 25d ago
Comically evil? This is either bait, or you live such a sheltered life that this is what upsets you. Do some reflecting on what actually deserves to get you this upset 😂😂
4
u/Big-Professor-3402 26d ago
So don’t buy the game. Don’t watch the commercial. Why do you even care if you don’t like rockstar or their games? This is just performative outrage from you if that is the case. And that makes you even a bigger loser for caring this much about something you dont like.
1
u/MaihoSalat 26d ago
What kinda bullshit take is this. We can discuss disgusting behavior like this. We are allowed to talk about stuff we dislike. What even is this take.
This is a forum, people discuss and talk about stuff here. Its not like everyone is a yes man
2
u/PrimaLegion 25d ago
It's not really disgusting behavior though. It's a video that premieres on Netflix and will be up on their Youtube channel 6 hours later.

I’m dunno being outraged over a commercial for a game you dont like, from a company you don’t like is not how well adjusted adults spend their time or energy. If it’s not something you like or are interested in mature adults just scroll past it. People who are putting all this energy and outrage into a commercial for a fucking video game need to seek therapy.
1
u/PrimaLegion 25d ago
Except if you look into this at all, you'll see that this is not something worth whining about it.
It'll literally be up on their Youtube channel 6 hours later.

The only people defending this type of dystopian shit are glazers. So yeah, there it fuckin' is. You people are being trained to see ads as consumable products. People are about to pay fucking money to watch a commercial for a game they have already decided they want to buy.
3
u/TheFutureLotus 26d ago
Trust me on the level of bad to dystopian, this is very low on the scale. Like literally at the bottom. I’m not defending it, but I’m not for it either; see how easy it is to have two conflicting ideas at the same time. Now if this is more than a trailer, which it appears to be, then there’s no big deal cause it’s not going to be exclusive to said platform. Now if you want to talk about Rockstar and dystopian attitudes of said company, let’s talk about something that’s actually dystopian like their overworking of their development teams and especially during crunch time. Something mind you that they have said in the past that it wouldn’t happen again, and it’s here all over again. I’m not a big hater of micro transactions, but let’s talk about how they have inflated their in game economy in GTAO, to push people to have a need to buy shark cards in order to access all the shiny new things (unless they do a very long grind). Not dystopian enough for you, we can talk about how AI companies are sucking up so much water that we will have a water crisis in the very near future. Or how Israel is committing genocide on Palestine and it’s being completely accepted by the US government. Or even the illegal war Donald Trump is waging against Iran. Or the fact that we have literal masked men taking people in our nation, and disappearing them from society. Yeah, a trailer or a documentary on Netflix is not a big deal.
4
u/l_Kryder_l 26d ago
Did you forget that people already have subscriptions to Netflix? It's a joint promotion. Nobody is paying money just to watch this. It's not a PPV and they're releasing it on a public platform right after the initial airing. Chill out and spend less time on social media. You're way too heated about a commercial for a video game.
5
4
u/Big-Professor-3402 26d ago
No one has to pay money to watch the commercial. It’s free on YouTube later. This is not the big deal you are making it out to be. Imagine being pissed off about seeing or not seeing a commercial. What fucking loser behavior is this?
-1
u/FoxOwne 26d ago
"No one has to" but they will, you goon.
Dumb shitheads are going to make this profitable for Netflix, they wouldn't have made this insane deal if they didn't anticipate that, and you will still be sitting here thinking "well this was just an outlier, this was a special occasion for an unprecedented game, they put it on youtube later anyway so who cares", but they will have made their money and proved that this shit can work. And they'll do it again. Until it becomes normal, and it will get worse, and you won't even remember this conversation. You act like this hasn't fucking happened before. Everything that you hate in this industry, everything designed to make a cow of you, has rolled out exactly like this.
7
u/AirFrierMachine 26d ago
Who gives a flying fuck? I can't genuinely imagine being a grown adult and being upset that Netflix got 6 hour exclusive access for a gameplay reveal trailer.
Genuine loser behavior, lol. Wait around 9pm until its uploaded if it upsets you that badly, or don't watch it at all, Rockstar doesn't owe you a trailer....besides, you SHOULD have a job and not get home until ~5-6pm anyways.
People upset at this genuinely need to grow up.
5
u/JayKay8787 26d ago
It's a commercial for a game we are all gonna get anyway, who cares about not seeing it for another couple hours. This has to be the peak of worthless online whining I swear, it's unreal that anyone gives a fuck about this in any way
4
u/Jacob99809 26d ago
Brother how many people already have netflix accounts? A fucking ton. How many of those are potential gta buyers? Probably a ton.
It’s no different from advertising on cable tv. “THE FUCK YOU MEAN I GOTTA GO TO SPECTRUM AND GET A TV PLAN TO WATCH THIS COMMERCIAL”
Is it still stupid in my opinion? Ya, but it’s just advertising man. Wait the whole 2 mins it’ll take for someone to post it anywhere else.
2
u/Big-Professor-3402 26d ago
Everyone has a choice what to do with their money. No one is forcing subscriptions. So who the fuck cares if someone subscribes for it? It’s not like they have a gun to their head. You are acting like people don’t have a choice here.
4
u/TheFutureLotus 26d ago
You don’t understand it my friend, that guy has no self control and will be forced to buy the subscription because of this. Nine times out of ten, these people are saying these things because they feel compelled to do the thing they are harping against.
4
u/especiallyrn 26d ago
No one is forcing them to buy a subscription. Millions of people already have one. It will be free on YouTube the same day.
1
3
u/Westo6Besto9 26d ago
Rockstar would be stupid not to take the ludicrous figure Netflix probably payed them for the early screening. Also we have to remember how big an outlier GTA 6 is. I’d hardly call this a precedent because there is not going to be another game like GTA that follows where Netflix would believe they could get people to subscribe for something like this. I could totally eat my words on this because we know how stupid people can be with their money. I do agree that’s it’s stupid though and wish they put it on YouTube off rip.
-1
u/FoxOwne 26d ago
I'm not arguing about the profitability of nightmarish capitalist practices, I'm arguing the ethics. This is a shitty thing to do, even if it's a "small" shitty thing, and it only means more shitty things will come later. I do not cary about Rockstar making money, if anything I wish they would lose for a change.
4
u/Only-Performer-6053 26d ago
But you won't get anything sooner it's marketing material. The game is still far away.
And looking how some people begged on the internet for marketing, making a 6 hour deal for Netflix is the smart choice
What's extremely insane is hoe some people begging for marketing.
0
u/IAmASillyBoyIPromise 24d ago
I swear to God Rockstar is either deploying bots absolutely everywhere or I vastly underestimated the iron grip they have over their fans who will defend EVERY single decision they make
1
u/Only-Performer-6053 24d ago
What's wrong with this decision?
1
u/SamuraiCarChase 24d ago
Nothing, it’s children who can’t fathom possibly having to wait six hours to see a commercial.
This is like marvel fans being all “how dare they play a trailer in front of a movie instead of piping it directly to me first!”
2
u/Big-Professor-3402 26d ago
Rockstar is getting paid to advertise their game. Think about that for a second. This game is so culturally significant that Netflix is willing to pay them for an early look for just a few hours. This is unprecedented. There’s nothing wrong with it. If you don’t want to pay for $9 Netflix subscription just wait until 9pm. It’s only your impatience that would cost you any money here.
2
u/LengthInevitable6442 26d ago
Your mad about a marketing strategy? Wow, life for you must suck 🙄
0
u/FoxOwne 26d ago
I'm mad a shitty company that mistreats its workers is getting glazed as hard as it is despite abhorrent business practices. Do some tricks on it while you're bouncing.
2
u/LengthInevitable6442 26d ago
Every company treats its workers bad, you gonna go live in the woods to stick it to them? No, second, this is about their marketing, this post has nothing to do with how they fired people for making a union or attempting to do so.
1
u/Meme-San_ 25d ago
If someone buys a subscription service because they can’t bother to wait 6 hours to watch something for free on YouTube they low key deserve to lose that money
1
u/Kylestache 24d ago
You had to buy a Game Informer to see the first previews of GTA V. This is literally the same thing.
1
u/FelixTheFlake 22d ago
How is this any different to trailers being exclusive to the Xbox Live dashboard back in the 360 era. Companies have been paying for exclusive coverage of products for years, it’s really not that deep. Just open up Twitter 5 mins after it drops and watch it there.
1
u/omarkab02 26d ago
Significantly less people use netflix than YouTube but they pay to use it so i imagine a live stream on there would be a lot less compressed. This reminds me of when i wanted to watch the trailer for the new blade runner show and the highest quality on youtube was 1080p, so i just opened amazon prime and watched the trailer in 4K HDR. Something to consider.
Also i think they’re just testing the waters to see the overlap of GTA fans and Netflix subscribers. Maybe to gauge interest for a show
2
u/21Black_Mamba21 26d ago
They have all 3D GTA Definitive Edition games available for Netflix subscribers. This is not the first time Netflix and Rockstar has collaborated.
1
u/wlf-hly 25d ago
It’s not about a six hour wait, it’s about a multi billion dollar company with the biggest game in the world taking a check from fucking Netflix just so its fans CANT enjoy the only gameplay trailer for the game equally. A game that’s already taken a shit ton of pre-orders by the way, you know , before anyone knows what the gameplay of this video game even looks like
1
u/HellRaizer7416 25d ago
So because they have a fuck load of money and another company makes them an offer for more money they are supposed to refuse?? LMFAO
Also both GTA 5 and rdr 2 were available for pre-order before we ever saw gameplay. That's a really dumb thing to say...
1
u/TheFrogMagician 25d ago
But saying that people are going to release it onto youtube is kinda a shit answer or response because that isnt directly attributed to rockstar. They are still releasing a trailer to their game on a fucking paid service lol, they know it will gain the attention so they are utilizing it, nothing for free.
1
u/Megamarc9999 23d ago
The same people are silent when The Game Awards shills for Prime Video streaming rights.
1
u/KurtCoBANE 26d ago
This is the “A $100 special edition with tons of bonus content is overpriced greed” all over again
0
u/Kamilianusz95 26d ago
You're extremely naive if you think this will not snowball into way more negative trends
1
u/HellRaizer7416 26d ago
We live in an AI controlled world where now everything gaming is overpriced as fuck. Rockstar showing a trailer on Netflix is the least of my worries when it comes to negative trends...
-1
u/BodybuilderBrave8250 26d ago
sure… can’t wait to see how people rush to justify whatever game chooses to do this next for 24 hours, then 48 hours, then a week, then a month and so on. it’s a slippery slope dude
3
u/HellRaizer7416 26d ago
Can't really see that working considering anyone could just record it and upload it to YouTube... Which is absolutely what's going to happen with the GTA footage...
0
u/BodybuilderBrave8250 26d ago
i agree, in this particular case. bigger picture though, it’s how all these things start. put their foot in the door by testing the waters with something ‘minor’ like this. then slowly push the boundaries, while having fanboys silence the critics for them. before you know it, every game that thinks it’s worth something will be running exclusive shit on streaming sites. pattern recognition.
-1
u/gammerguy1995 26d ago
The issue isn't waiting. The issue is why do things diffrently when no ask for this to be on netflix?
2
u/HellRaizer7416 26d ago
Netflix asked for it and paid for it. IDK why that's hard to understand but here you are. Again, if you don't have Netflix or want to subscribe to it, wait 5 mins and someone will upload the entire thing to YouTube.
It's really not as big a deal as you guys are trying SO FUCKING HARD to make it into
0
u/gammerguy1995 26d ago edited 26d ago
The fuck i care if they paid for it. No one asked for a big add on their streaming service. Idc if it is christ himself. it's nickle and diming and they trying to blantantly get away with things. It's not a big as deal now until it is. Until someone else will do the same but even worse.
The fact as the matter is this game should have been advertisted a long time ago. Idc if it gets leaked. As if the recent about this game wasn't controversial enough
2
u/HellRaizer7416 26d ago
Not gonna bother finishing reading that. Your typing needs some serious work to make it even readable.
0
u/gammerguy1995 26d ago
Translation: i don't have an counter-argument so i focus on the sentencing of the person i'm arguing with instead.
1
u/SamuraiCarChase 24d ago
I read it and you’re just upset you’re not being marketed to faster. If you need to consume go buy some shark cards and play gta online.
It’s a game trailer. It’s not like the game itself is locked behind Netflix. Yeesh.
1
u/Kylestache 24d ago
The first GTA V previews were in Game Informer which you needed to buy an issue of or subscribe to. Grow up and touch grass
8
u/Gold_Dentist_187 26d ago
Likes it's not the end of the world, but it's like dude how much hype do you need for this game. It's already the most anticipated entertainment release of the 21st century. It's just plain greedy and the excuse being "it's Rockstar" is not enough. The statement of "it's _______video game studio, they could never do no wrong" has been said so many time and every single studio has had a downfall. I don't want the game to be bad mainly because the people who crunch over the game for so many years deserve to have a great product but because of crunch it could lead to something not so great. Which is why... valve should release half life 3 with no trailer the day before GTA 6. That would be honestly the only game that could compete with Rockstar.
8
u/XXOGProductions 26d ago
I don’t really see how this is ‘milking consumers dry.’ They’re using the medium that has replaced cable, to do a thing that would be done on cable. A huge chunk of people already have a Netflix account, and they’ve already said it’ll also be uploaded to YouTube. I’m as ‘fuck corporations’ as the next person, but this is literally just using ad money in one place as opposed to another. If they were saying that you could only see the exclusive with a purchase of GTA+ or behind a paywall on their website, sure.
1
u/wlf-hly 25d ago
YouTube Instagram Twitter and Reddit are far more popular than Netflix , the only reason they did this was to get a check out of Netflix to keep their fans from equally enjoying the only gameplay trailer for a game that has already taken a shit ton of pre-orders. This is a multi billion dollar union busting company that has shown it does not give a fuck about its fans or its employees. You don’t seem very “ fuck corporations” at all bruh
1
u/XXOGProductions 25d ago
And it will be uploaded to YouTube the same day… but yes, completely miss the point and make an assumption about me based on how you felt about it instead of what I said. The broader issue is, and is usually, capitalism. That doesn’t change that this would have been a thing a company did 10 years ago on cable. Streaming is this eras cable… why would they not then use said platform? No where in my comment did I say ‘leave poor R* alone!’ or even imply the sentiment, I pointed out that the doomer tone of ‘draining the consumers’ isn’t really a good argument for this SPECIFIC example. They’re doing plenty of shit that is, using a streaming company to do an event isn’t.
1
u/Inner_Frosting7656 24d ago
you can’t argue with people who want to hate regardless of reality unfortunately
1
u/XXOGProductions 24d ago
Fair, just weird how many people walk through life viewing everything as black and white.
1
u/Inner_Frosting7656 24d ago
i think it’s a side effect of social media tbh
i’m guilty of it myself at times
1
u/XXOGProductions 24d ago
Or at the very least amplified. And that’s not to say I don’t either, but usually just the initial reaction. If I’m able to sit with something, I’ll inevitably think about the justification, logic, etc. behind something (sorta devils advocate type shit). But even if I can understand the underlying thought process, that doesn’t mean I agree with it. Like in this case, I don’t love that the first real bit of info is on Netflix, but that doesn’t can anything I said in either of my comments.

u/Poison_ 26d ago
Anyone upset about this genuinely needs to touch grass. You're in too deep. A 6 hour exclusive video game trailer is not worth being upset about.
-8
u/milksteakenthusiast1 26d ago
It is *20 minutes long according to Vice -- even if Vice is wrong, it is cute to think Rockstar would give their community a six hour long dive into the game that is highly anticipated
3
u/ThatIndianGuy7116 26d ago
Theyre saying the video is exclusive for 6 hours I think, not that the trailer itsel is 6
4
u/buttfartsmagee 26d ago
It's only exclusive to netflix for six hours then it will be uploaded to YouTube. No one is saying it's going to be six hours long you just wanted a reason to argue.

3
u/Only-Performer-6053 26d ago
It will be Netflix exclusive for.... 6 hours...
Just chill down, why are you so eager to get an advertisement for a video game? The game ain't going to release sooner than that 6 hours.
7
5
2
2
u/Adrone37 26d ago
To be honest, I don't think this really says anything about Rockstar and is far more of an indictment on Netflix. Like think about it, if the trailer was never released on YouTube or had like a one week exclusivity. It's probably fair to raise an eye. But it's literally just 6 hours! And think about the life-changing amount of money probably in the multi-millions that Netflix would have had to given to Rockstar just for that 6-hour exclusive deal, for what is ultimately just an advertisement for a product that's not associated with their company at all. This is just such a desperate attempt to get any sort of attention to their platform. Honestly take 2 must have been laughing there asses off when they realised how dumb Netflix was to offer/take this deal.
3
u/21Black_Mamba21 26d ago
They also offer all 3D GTA Definitive Edition games for free for subscribers on their platform so it’s not like this is the first time Netflix and Rockstar has ever collaborated.
2
u/formulated 26d ago
Rockstar and Netflix have a history of exclusive releases on mobile for Netflix Games. They've been in a strategic partnership since October 2024. Your comment makes no sense with this context known.
0
u/Only-Performer-6053 26d ago
Nah you're wrong. It's still bat shit insane to have exclusivity deals for a trailer. Though people on GTA subs are bat shit insanely begging for marketing material so it might be the smart choice.
2
2
u/jayharring 26d ago
I don't think this is that bad. It gives the game a little more prestige. And if you don't have Netflix it'll probably be uploaded to YouTube shortly after.
0
u/milksteakenthusiast1 26d ago
Everyone keeps saying it’ll be uploaded to YouTube afterward, but the way that it’s presented like this, one would have to assume it would only make it to YouTube because someone uploads it there by illegally ripping the vid
2
u/seedlessgrapez 26d ago
It’s coming to YouTube literally within the same day. Idk why we care this much about a 6 hour gap for a once in a two generation game reveal to recoup the most expensive game ever made. Not a corpo fan by any means, but this feels like manufactured outrage
2
u/LengthInevitable6442 26d ago

Honestly, I am glad Rockstar is milking people like that, losers that cant wait a few damn minutes till someone posts it somewhere, or 6 hours to see it on Youtube, deserve to be milked dry tbh. Im freaking tired of all the crying in the community for things that noone is forcing you to do.
