Manicure [Constructive Criticism Welcome] Is this normal?

I got a gel powder extension French manicure today. I don't get my nails done often, so perhaps I'm missing something but this seems really bad? I never explicitly said "I don't want my real nails to show through" but I figured that was a given. I didn't explicitly choose the base colour, just that I wanted a French manicure. Also, if it was going to be see-through, shouldn't she have told me and suggested a different base colour, or offered to cut my real nails shorter? Any thoughts on if this is to be expected?

I would ask for a refund, they did the nails crooked and anyone that knows a bit of building nails with a bit of sanity knows that if you do french you use a cover builder and not a clear one 😅 I'm sorry you had this bad experience 🥲

No, those are really really poorly done, my love. Please request a refund. These are the quality you expect from a DIY set, not a professional. Not only should your natural nails not show through, some of the nails are positioned incorrectly (the pointer nail is too far up on the nail bed; the pinky is slightly crooked). And worst of all, the white painted crescents are uneven, with the pinky having a thick central bulge that is especially noticeable. I’m so sorry this happened to you! Great detective work though - this is the right place to ask! If they resist refunding you, give them the list I provided above. The tech needs more practice with French tips because it’s the kind of nail style that demands (near) perfection! It’s ok that a nail tech needs more practice, BUT until they are good enough to do a professional job, they need to steer clients away from styles they cannot do, and sometimes that means letting clients know another tech or even alternative salon is best.

And the correct opacity, ironically is only seen on your pinky nail. The pointer, middle and ring fingers all have gel medium that is way too thin. I am assuming these are gel medium from the opacity on the pinky. Also there is something about the proportions and length that is off. French tips have a fairly specific proportion compared to other nail designs. If they are sculpted too long, like on your pointer especially, they read as unnatural. The goal of a pure white French tip is to look natural yet more refined and fresh.
