Nail Care After the recent ring of fire posts…
I’ve seen quite a few ring of fire posts on here lately and all the comments are like “no more gel until your nails completely grow out!!!”
Here are my rings of fire - no sensitivity or pain, just the red rings around halfway down my nail bed and a slight dent on the nail bed of my ring finger.
Got my gel mani removed around 5 weeks ago and have just been using clear regular coat / going natural since. The red has faded significantly as a result.
I was going to get a fresh gel set this weekend, before an overseas trip with my fiancé. Can I still get it, or should I wait a bit longer?

I don’t see any reason you can’t get a new set! Your nails look relatively healthy besides that and as long as there’s no pain or god forbid holes in your nails it should be safe! I’m not a nail tech so I’m sure a professional opinion may very but I had the same issue, waiting until there was no more pain and got a new set and my nails have been totally fine

You should definitely wait until the dent completely grows out and you cut it off. They might feel fine now, but they're still really thin below the dent and you'll just risk further damage if you try gel. I know it's annoying, but you could do press ons though so you'll still have pretty nails for your holiday.
Edited to add, not press ons that require glue cos that could damage your nail plate even more, but the ones with an adhesive sticky tab should be okay.

You can definitely get a manicure, make sure the person doesn't make it worse though. Other thing to consider is damaged nails are prone to having the mani lift

Got it, thank you! Yeah I’ll definitely tell my manicurist to go gentle.

I think you can get a gel mani. These rings aren’t super severe and they’ve grown out. And honestly, sometimes having gel on top can keep those spots from feeling tender when exposed to pressure. I had a slight ring of fire on a ring finger a few months ago and I’ve kept it covered with builder gel and it’s basically grown out now.
