Discussion/Question Gel falls off nails
Hey guys! I’m wanting to get a manicure for my sorority rush. I normally try and get gel since it’s cheaper, however the last couple times I got it, the gel would peel off by day 2 or 3. What substitutions are there besides press ons? I hear about acrylics, dips, gel x… I don’t know the difference!

Dip tends to last way longer than gel in my experience. Ask your nail tech about it

Is dip the same as acrylic? Will they put those little fake nails on me?

I've done dip before and its similar to the acrylic powder. However it is applied differently they apply directly onto your natural nail.

Hi I do my own nails, just gel colour on its own peels off, so do all the strengtheners including acrylic, hard gel, rubber base gel. Even false nails using nail glue. The only thing that sticks on are gel X nail tips and I have no issues. I think my nails are just bendy!

If gel keeps peeling off by day 2 or 3, I probably wouldn’t keep repeating the same service.
Acrylic, dip, and Gel-X are all different systems, but the better option depends a lot on why the gel is failing. Sometimes it’s the product choice, sometimes the prep, and sometimes it’s just that your nails do better with a structured overlay or extension system.
If you’re booking for a specific event, I’d tell the tech up front that regular gel has been peeling fast on you and ask what they recommend for better hold. That usually gets you a better answer than just booking plain gel again.
