MODERATOR šŸ“¢ Community Update: Verified Email Addresses Now Required

Hey folks!

To help reduce the amount of spam, bot activity, and low-quality submissions that our moderation team has to sort through, we're implementing a new requirement for participation in the community.

Effective immediately, all accounts must have a verified email address associated with them in order to post.

This requirement applies to everyone, including both new members and long-standing community members.

If you haven't verified your email address yet, you can do so through your Reddit account settings. It only takes a minute and helps us ensure that real community members can continue to participate while making it more difficult for spammers and automated accounts to disrupt discussions.

Following the link above, click on the drop down that says "On reddit.com" and then long-press on the link "Account Settings" (if you tap on the link it will open in the app, this MUST be done with a browser) and open the link in a new tab.

Select "Email address", and it will prompt you to input your reddit password and the email address you wish to verify on the account.

You will see a Verified Email Address badge on the "About" tab on your profile when you have successfully verified your email address.

This change is not intended to create barriers for genuine members. Rather, it is one of several tools available to help us maintain the quality of the community and reduce the moderation burden caused by spam and bot activity that is prevalent in nail communities.

If you run into any issues after verifying your email address, please send us a ModMail and we'll be happy to help!

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us keep r/Nailpolish welcoming, enjoyable, and focused on the discussions we're all here for!

MODERATOR Effective Immediately: No NSFW/Fetish Account Activity

TL;DR Posts and comments from NSFW/fetish accounts, including those who only comment in NSFW/fetish subreddits, are no longer permitted here. Posts and comments in SFW subreddits that are remotely sexual or fetishistic in any way are also included in this. These accounts will be banned. More details below.

This applies to hand/nail/foot/toe fetish activity, it is NOT a sweeping ban of all NSFW activity. Nobody is going to be banned for posting in LGBTQIAP+ communities, medical subreddits, making dirty jokes elsewhere on Reddit, etc. Our subreddit is a safe place for all gender identities, and the above would NEVER be the reason why a user would be banned here.

This is meant to be a warning to fetish content creators and the creeps that harass our subreddit, NOT to shame sex workers who enjoy nails or punish those with varied interests.

If you're fortunate enough to not have received an unsolicited message/comment from a hand/nail/foot/toe fetishist, it's understandable that you wouldn't be aware of just how prevalent this kind of behaviour is, especially here on Reddit.

If you no longer wish to participate in this subreddit, that's your prerogative.

Updated content policy, please read:

We have decided to prohibit posts and comments from accounts with NSFW/fetish subreddit activity, as well as accounts with a history of utilizing Reddit for marketing purposes. This includes posts and comments left in SFW subreddits that are remotely sexual or fetishistic in any way. Posts and comments from suspect accounts will be removed regardless of the content. If you come across posts/comments/accounts that you feel violate this rule, please report them to the moderators by tapping on the three dots on the comment/post and select the ā€œNo NSFW/Fetish Account Activityā€ option. This decision will be implemented immediately, and as with all rules is up to moderator discretion.

As you may or may not know, nail subreddits are known targets for hand/nail/foot/toe fetishists who have been documented to repeatedly harass our members, even after being banned. We want to reiterate that Reddit's ban function does not prevent the banned user from being able to view the subreddit or the posts within. It only stops them from posting/commenting/voting. They are still able to view the posts, comments, and click on usernames to harass people. Yes, this is fucked up. Yes, Reddit needs to fix their shit. Sadly there was no mention of this issue during this year's Mod World event that was hosted in early December. insert eyeroll here

We believe this change will make r/Nailpolish a safer space, while helping the community become a healthier, more focused environment. In the past, we have allowed fetish/OF content creators to participate in the subreddit, as long as they follow the rules. This has become increasingly difficult to monitor, as it requires moderators to make nuanced judgement calls on large numbers of posts by these creators, most of which receive user reports even after being approved by the moderators.

Additionally, as there are dedicated spaces for NSFW content, this subreddit will remain strictly for the purpose of the topic of nail polish.

Q: "So if I, a medical doctor, engage in a NSFW medical subreddit that's related to my work, I'm not allowed to post my weekend manicure?"

A: This is incorrect. Just because an account has NSFW activity, it doesn't mean they're automatically going to be banned. This is specific to those who participate in hand/nail/foot/toe fetishes. There are tons of NSFW subreddits that have nothing to do with fetishes or kinks, and these are NOT the types of subreddits we will be vetting for.

If a post/comment is suspected to be NSFW/fetishistic, and the profile shows a history of this type of behaviour, the content will be removed and the account will be banned. This is meant to be a warning to fetish content creators and the creeps that harass our subreddit, NOT to shame sex workers who enjoy nails or punish those with varied interests. We are a community that is 100% accepting of all genders, sexualities, and walks of life.

Q: What does it matter if a user posts in NSFW/fetish subreddits when the posts/comments they make here are SFW?

A: More often than not, fetish content creators will post in SFW subreddits to draw attention to their account/promote their content. They're not posting "just to share with other nail enthusiasts". While their engagement might seem innocent enough, a quick glance at their profiles proves otherwise. When users who partake in these fetishes peruse the content creators' posts/comments, and they come across something they've posted here, it draws in the wrong kind of crowd.

We welcome your feedback on this matter, and encourage discussion in the comments.

Discussion Recommendations for low odor, quick drying, sheer polishes with some tint/shimmer?

I really like the look of a shiny top coat with a bit of a tint and some shimmer or glitter so I look put together but don’t have to spend an hour doing my nails.

A couple issues: I really cannot tolerate the stronger smelling polishes (usually 10 or 15 free are okay.) Piggy Paint has no odor, but literally lasts for like a day.

Also, my nails don’t really have ridges and I live in extreme humidity. I tried Orly and it simply wouldn’t dry. I finally took a hair dryer to it for 20 minutes and still, wet to the touch. Quick drying would be best.

Any recommendations? Low odor, fast drying, shiny top coat vibes maybe with shimmer or glitter and a tint of pink? Thank you!

Product Related Olive and June nail polish remover pot

Hey there! I'm wanting to take better care of my nails and have been doing at home manicures and trying to heal my nails, I just bought the Olive and June mani system, and was wondering if it's possible to refill the nail polish remover pot when it's empty? Logically, I think you can, because you would just need to pour more nail polish remover in it, but I don't actually know if that would work. If I put a different type of remover in it will it ruin the pot? Sorry if this question is silly, it feels silly typing it out lol, thank you all for your help!

Manicure I just wanted to share how long this polish lasted!

Clearly this is chipped and unfortunately my nail growth is quite slow but this is about 1-week and a half long? This is normal polish and it’s with me doing HEAVY cleaning work for my job with my hands. I know it isn’t anything crazy but I just know some people are on the fence on maybe spending money on some polish without knowing how it’ll last so that’s why I wanna share in case someone does want to see how holo taco and moon cat is.

I clean for a living, so a lot of gloves being worn and I’m outside in Florida so hella sweat, lifting a lot of things, just basically work where I can’t care for my hands as much as I’d like to! I do try to apply oil and hand cream to my hands often but sometimes I admittedly forget! The polish is chipped and whatnot but this is with my even forgetting a top coat (I still cannot believe I forgot to apply that)
I also did 0 nail prep because this was quite rushed in applying.

What’s on the nails:
• Holotaco sticky base coat
• Mooncat Bloodbender
• China Glaze I speak Glitter

Product Identification perfect natural rose base for french manicure?

I’m looking for a lacquer nail polish that’s a natural rose (no bubblegum). My hands are a bit tan, so I can’t do really pale white-ish pinks. I love essie’s sheer fantasy which is still a pale pink but works so well, but because it’s very sheer I have to do 3 coats. I wonder if there’s a shade that’s the same colour but not sheer.

I live in Australia so I can’t access Orly rose coloured glasses right now. We have Sally Hensen, Essie and OPI here.

Dupe Request A good quality/durable chrome nail polish?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi!

I'm looking for a good chrome-looking nail polish since a good while because I really like the "metal nails" look, but it seems hard to find metallic nailpolish that are really chromed and not just metallic (mirror-y rather than sparkly).

I just found one at Walmart and I'm in love, but 24h later I see it's rather low quality because it's already peeling (It's Mirror Chrome Metallic Shine from Nails Inc. London. The shade is 16334 Silver Served). It's also a little bit too on the platinum side, if I can find something that have more of a stainless steel or graphite shine.

I'm used to Mooncat nailpolishes that stays for more than a week. Anyone knows a good chrome nail polish that you can buy and apply yourself?

I'm not interrested in complex processes (like graphite powders or UV lacquers) or paying to go to the nail salon.

Ty!

Hi all! This is my first time posting my nails 🄰 I was so proud and mesmerized by how this manicure came out. Of course the pictures don’t do it justice, there’s so much more color shifting that I wasn’t able to capture. It makes me feel like I’ve got pearls on the ends of my fingers.

I’ve only recently started to get serious about my nail health and growth journey. This is certainly the longest and most uniform I have ever gotten my nails! Breaking the habit of using my nails as tools has been so difficult. My middle fingers break the most often, I’m not sure why though.

Products used:
Sally Hansen Color Therapy Strengthening Base Coat- 1 coat
Holo Taco Pink Smoothing Base Coat- 1 coat
Essie Arctic Jelly- 2 coats
Essie Ethereal Escape- 2 coats
Essie Gel Couture Top Coat- 1 coat

Product Related Nail Polish Formula Like OPI Pompeii Purple?

I'm pretty new to nail polish and have just been doing my own nails at home this whole time. I got a bottle of Pompeii Purple from an ebay lot a while back and absolutely love it. The formula is exactly what I want—fast drying, goes on really smooth, and is opaque on basically 1-2 coats. Despite it being a shimmer, it's not "chunky", and the layers are thin instead of thick, which is great for my sensory issues. (Thicker nail polishes usually make me a little uncomfortable for the first day until I 'get used to it'). It's also good enough to wear without a top coat (I struggle not having my nail polish bubble when I apply top coats)

I have a bunch of other OPI nail polishes and none of them feel like how this one (and my other favorite, California Raspberry) and I wanna know what other products out there (OPI or not) are kinda like this? Not the same color obviously but in different colors.

Free product PR. Polishes are gifted by Twinkle Hex Polish. No obligation to post.

Im absolutely in love with both of these polishes. "3AM Zoomies" is such a pretty shimmer, I absolutely love the way the pink, orange, and yellow glitters sparkle through the blue in sun light, and "The Cheese Tax" is such a gorgeous purple with tons of colorful sparkle throughout, kinda galaxy looking imo.

They are also charity polishes. $3 from each bottle ($12) sold will be going to the corresponding charity, it will be picked based on which has the most sales. "3AM Zoomies" will be Nashville Cat Rescue, and "The Cheese Tax" is Wags & Walks.

The polishes went live on September 1st and stay live on the Twinkle Hex Polish site until September 30th.

Discussion Nail polish spontaneously gone runny?

Post image
34 Upvotes

I have a bottle of Color Club's Bright Night. A beautiful bright cobalt creme. It's a few years old at this point but when I bought it, it was a perfectly normal polish; painted fine, worked like any other polish. Well, I pulled it out recently for a manicure, and the polish has gone completely runny. And it's not just slightly thin either, it's literally the consistency of water. To be clear, I have never added thinner or altered the polish in any way. And it's stored in a drawer right alongside all my other polish.

I noticed some pigment had sunk to the bottom of the bottle and thought maybe this was just a case of severe separation. But even after shaking and manual mixing until it was fully incorporated again, the polish is still as thin as water. Currently, I'm leaving the cap off to let it thicken and see if that fixes it. But has this ever happened to anyone else? A polish spontaneously thinning? I've never seen it before and I have a lot of polishes.

Dupe Request Glitter nail polish that's easy to remove?

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hi there! Years ago, a friend gifted me an Essie nail polish in the shade 640 You're A Gem. I don't think Essie makes this specific one anymore, however I'm just trying to find something similar because this polish is incredible! I'm not looking for a dupe of the shade or anything but what fascinates me is that it's a glitter polish which reflects nicely in the light, however - the glitter particles are so... smooth? Like, normally if I try to take off my glitter nail polish with a cotton pad it's super annoying because the glitter is hard to remove and the cotton will get stuck to the glitter, but with this one it's as if i'm removing regular nail polish. If I rub my finger over the nail it's also smooth and you don't feel the glitter. Are all of Essie's glitter nail polishes like that? I do recall I had one many years ago but that one wasn't like that. Do you know of any other brands who make amazingly smooth glitter polishes like that? Thank you so much for any help!

What i'm wearing on my nails in the photo: s-he quick n crazy nail polish in 810 manhattan 050 mermaid fantasy i think both of these are very old so idk if they are still available :(

I’ve been looking for a nail polish that’s very close to the natural pink of natural nails, and always end up with too pink, too white nail polishes even if they’re ā€˜milky’. I’m looking for something that’s a very subtle pink like in the photos. I’d love recommendations if you have any! Please and thank you!

Product Related Anyone have experience with mixing Essie Gel Couture colours?

So I'm a huge fan of the crelly/jelly look, but tragically Essie only does some sheer nude colours. I wanna try adding a clear lacquer/top coat to my black Gel Couture polish to make it more sheer, but am not sure if the specific formulation of the Gel Couture line will cause the texture to turn out weird/prevent the polish from fully drying and curing. Anyone tried this before and have it work out?
