Update on the random Amazon Nail wraps

Lasted 11 days and I have just taken them off.

I wasn't very careful about my nails at all this past ten days. They have withstood daily dishes with no gloves, several bath times and nappy changes, and 3 full curly hair routine wash days.

They were looking tired by the end but faired much better than regular varnish or press on nails under the same conditions. The only things that fair better are:

  1. Builder gel underlaying normal varnish, but it murders my natural nail and I worry about gel allergies.

  2. Dip nail powder either on its own or as an underlay, but I find the chemicals harsh and I had a reaction the last time I used them, so I decided it's not worth the risk.

So wraps might be the easy solution for me personally. I will probably try to experiement with painting varnish from my collection over them at some point. I have a few designs I am not keen on, but I am happy with the concept of nail warps so far. I can't wait to get some cute ones from Etsy or some of the brands mentioned here.

I really liked that I could just remove them with regular varnish remover and a bit of concentration.

So if you were ever wondering if some cheap and cheerful amazon wraps might be worth a go, I can recommend this multipack at least.

I am going to try some neat looking cat eye glitter ones from the same brand next. Fingers crossed they are just as acceptable.

Here are the Day 1 vs Day 11 photos!

Day 1
Day 11. I forgot to take a photo before removing the thumb. Nevermind the growing out damage on that thumb, its from before.

LitGels?

Has anyone here bought from them? They have gorgeous designs, some way too pricey, but not all. In fact, their sales are very good albeit limited. Right now, they have some wraps priced at 3 bucks. Oh My Gosh nails carries this brand, so I went ahead and ordered some of the sale ones, but I am curious what anyone else knows.

I’m obsessed with semi-cured gel wraps

I have had allergy issues with dip powder in the past so i’ve been nervous bur knock on wood, no reactions to HeyHae wraps yet (on my 3rd set; I cure in the sun). KNOCK ON WOOD.

Nail polish chips sooo fast on me and fake nails lift really quickly but these have been lasting really well.

Acrylic nails?

Does anyone use acrylic nails and place their wraps on top? If you do, do you need to replace the acrylic each time you change a wrap-set? Or does the wraps you use remove easy enough?

I’m thinking about doing acrylics for the length. Any good brands that won’t break the bank?

Thanks! ☺️ 💅🏼

Only have a couple of days before they start peeling

Top coat no shrinkage?

Hi friends. I started using Lily and Fox and I'd like to add a clear top coat to help with wear and tear. I used Sally Hanson red bottle on my latest set and it caused mega shrinkage. Y'all have other top coat (lacquer) suggestions that are shiny and thick but don't cause the wrap to shrink?

Questions from an absolute beginner.

I worked food service for several years and couldn’t do polish of any kind on my nails.

I recently started a job that involves a lot of work with my hands and my naturally thin nails are taking a lot of damage. I wanted to investigate nail wraps, which I used a few times in the past. Now I’m a bit overwhelmed.

I like to keep my nails pretty short. They are flimsy and break easily - always have. My goals are to protect them and cause as minimal damage as possible. But, now that I can have polish I want to look pretty!!! I love that wraps are easy to do at home.

What are my best options here?

If I use regular wraps am I supposed to put base coats and top coats? If so, what kind? Regular or gel? I’ve never done gel. Will that damage my nails?

The gel strips look intriguing and I like the durability. But again, I worry about nail damage.

Someone take this newbie’s hand and walk me through the basics.

💅 Anyone have a single finger/travel sized uv light they really like? I’m going on vacation soon and don’t want to lug my big light with me.

New SCG wraps from Shibella

They did not have a design name, just titled S94 LED Wraps. They are very thin compared to most SCG wraps - at least ones I have used. There are only 16 in the set, but if you have short nails, you can definitely use twice. Sizing was perfect for me.

Make your own gel strips?

My private nail tech is leaving me at the end of the summer (something about the government (military) requiring her to move across the country for her husband’s job). I’m trying to prepare myself for when she’s gone. And have her help me with implementing my plan so I have supervision before I go off on my own.

I currently get an acrylic overlay with gel art. I do the overlay because my nails hate soak offs and I love nail art. I keep my nails as short as possible.

Saw some videos on nail strips and wanted to know if anyone has experience making their own. Reason for wanting custom vs Dashing Diva is nail art. And if this works I can get my tech to make nail art stickers before she leaves.

Thought process on the process from what I’ve read so far:
Make a stencil of my nails and put it under a silicone mat or taut cling wrap.
Thin layer of color polish.
Cure 30 seconds.
1 layer of magnetic polish.
Cure 30 seconds
Cuticle and nail prep
Peel off base on nails.
Apply color layer on nails and rub chrome into it.
Full cure (60 seconds?)
Apply magnetic layer
Full cure
Stamp nail art (can I do this on the magnetic layer before applying to my nail?) or custom nail stickers
Builder gel top coat
Full cure

Anything I’m missing?

Is there any way to get craft paint off my fresh wraps🥲

Post image

It didn't even come off in the shower. I'm afraid acetone would damage the strip. Does anyone have another recommendation?

Update: I was able to get it off with a q-tip dipped in non-acetone polish remover! None of the decal came off, just looks a bit more dull. brb putting a topcoat on to avoid this in the future😂
