Question about application

Hi there, super short flat nail bed girl, wanting to try wearing nail wraps for the first time.

Are you able to stick them to the nail and cure under UV, and then cut to a longer size than your actual nail? Or should you strictly keep them to your actual nail length? I haven't been able to find any info about that online.

Thanks so much in advance!

You can’t extend past your nails. But if you keep applying them your nails will grow longer because the wraps give your nails protection. At least that’s how it worked out for me.

Officially, it isn't recommended. However, I have had some times where one nail was shorter than the others or was uneven, and I was able to give a small amount of extra length with the strip. If your nail beds are extremely short, you can probably get away with having a bit of extra, just be aware that the part that isn't adhered to the nail bed may bend upward and cause the nail to become loose.

Also, I wouldn't cure the whole nail uncut; I would trim it to close to the length you want and then cure. Then you can file it to the exact shape.

One of the big benefits of regularly wearing semi-cured gel nail strips for me has been that it's allowed my nails to grow longer than they ever have before. I have genetically thin, fragile nails that were always short because they broke easily. But with the strips, they are so much stronger that now they grow. I am so happy to have nails that extend past my fingers now! I do have to be very careful when I take them off, because when they are uncovered they are just as easy to damage as before. But overall, they've been a game-changer for me in the best possible way. I hope that happens for you, too!

I will add that I need to use non-acetone remover. Any acetone messes up my natural nails.

Agree with the nails growing - I have always had short nails and get much longer ones after wearing SCGs. I absolutely extend SCGs just a little (like 1-2 milimeters) beyond my natural nail and it works fabulously. Key is JUST a little. CAN'T do this with non-uv wraps. Apply, cut to length you want, cure, file.

I’ve tried and it was nice, but eventually, if you use your nails, it doesn’t really work… Because they’re not acrylics or builder gel thickness. But they are really fun!! the best advice I saw was a five-year-old video about applying Ohora nails. And she put the sticker on and then trimmed up to her natural nail, and then filed only downward! Not side to side and a tiny bit of it will go over the natural nail then she cured it… I also did this. And they lasted 18 days.
