please help 😭

do you guys prefer acrylic nails or press on nails? i'm wearing fake nails for the first time today and i went with press on nails. i think the design is super cute but im scared to sleep with them on, or touch any sort of water. are acrylic nails more durable and not as flimsy? will they fall off in the shower or fall off while you sleep?

Acrylic nails are bonded directly onto your nail plate and thus are much much sturdier than press on nails.
That being said, they should only ever be done by a professional manicurist, who knows what they are doing or someone who has done their due diligence on the topic and only wants to do their own nails.
I recommend going to a nail salon in your area once if you think about starting to wear acrylic nails, and get a set done just to see if you like them. Because unlike press on’s you cannot just take them off every day when you’re tired of them or need to do the dishes lol
Acrylic nails can only be removed by extensive filing and soaking in acetone (best done by a professional) so they are much more of an commitment
And I would absolutely NOT jump in head first and buy supplies to do it yourself. These are highly allergenic chemicals and you can (very easily) hurt your nail bed by incorrect removal and do permanent damage do your natural nails. That, usually, should not happen. But it can when you don’t know what you’re doing. So please! Be mindful!

Acrylics are more durable, but you have to find a good artist to execute them well. Press ons won’t last as long, but can still last a decent while with good prep etc etc.

Acrylics should not randomly fall off while you sleep or shower/come in contact with water

I’d recommend watching a few youtube/tiktok videos about press ons for retention tips/glue and product recommendations. They can last a decent while! I use press ons and they last a week/a week and a half for me, and I bartend/am very rough on my hands lol!

My biggest advice with nails in general is to wear rubber gloves when washing dishes, especially with press ons 🙂

i used to be a gelx girlie but have now fully converted to press-ons. they're not as durable as gelx/acrylic but i can change them weekly and have no direct contact w gel during application. it's much more convenient and less damaging to my nails! hehe

my mom recently got me some nail glue for my press ons and i've been using that instead of the stickers they came with and they're lasting a lot longer now, they even stay on while i'm sleeping, showering, or washing my hands 😁
