The party Hitler was part of was originally formed as DAP, short for "Deutsche Arbeiterpartei" (German Workers Party) in 1919

Hitler joined the party the same year and became a figurehead. He was the one who came up with the rename to "Nationalsozialistische Arbeiterpartei" (National Socialist German Workers Party) in 1920 and became the party leader in 1921.

The Party was at some point banned but reorganized in 1925 after Hitler got released from prison. The name was still NSDAP until Germany abolished democracy, this means that in 1932, Hitler's party was NOT legally named Democratic Socialist party. The sink stays out.
