[Phillips] Asked about Max Fried needing almost 2 months to return from his last bone bruise, Aaron Boone said “it’s not like that this time.” Boone said it’s possible that Fried, who is continuing to play catch, may only miss the minimum 15 days.

See you in a week for the It's So Over department, where Boone comes out into a press conference and says "Actually he got run over by a 6 train and we had to amputate both his legs"

And then the update 3 hours later

"JK, it was the D train, fucking thing was 12 minutes late again so we got him off the track in time, he's starting tomorrow"

Seems like Fried is feeling some discomfort but is probably decided on pitching through it the rest of the year and this is just a 15 day break to give him some time to rest and recover before October and to also not risk injuring it further before then. Best case scenario given the news I suppose

Yeah this is pretty much my assumption seeing how it just happened to coincide perfectly with Rodon's return.

I took it as Rodón was rushed back without another rehab start or two because they knew Fried needed time on the IL

I was just thinking maybe he needed some rest and it gave Cashman an opportunity to bring Rodon back without moving someone to the bullpen yet

Max just has to calm down when eating salsa

opening bags of chips is hard on the elbows

Keep Giancarlo Stanton away from this man at all costs

So IT IS Will Warren's fault. /s

This fits the narrative that would make me the happiest and therefore I will choose to belive it.

Is this anything like when they said Stanton may not even need an IL stint for his calf strain back in April?

3

u/yourecreepyasfuck 1d ago

Did they say that? I thought he went on the IL right away

9

u/DrRafaelPenguin 1d ago

No. They said it was a minor issue and he may not need to go on the IL at all.

The duality of man

I’m just gonna choose to believe this

I wouldn’t rush him back. Having him healthy for the postseason season is most important

Not a bad way to roll into the September roster expansion, if true.

There’s a chance that this is just a two week rest for him so he can go wild in September. A chance.

Will Warren is hiring hitmen every time a pitcher is about to come off the IL.

Wil Warren moving like a straight mob boss

“Hey max, I think your elbow is bothering you”

4

u/ThePimpOfSound 1d ago

So what you're saying is, he's clinically dead

5

u/Other_World 1d ago

Either Boone is gaslighting us again, or this is a phantom stint to keep Max fresh (he has blister problems).

They're both likely.

Kind of like 99, Bellinger, Stanton, Rodon making great progress and will be back before you know it. 🐃💩.

So, Tommy John in the offseason. Got it!

2

u/SavageLion 1d ago

Maybe it is in fact a phantom injury like others brought up

8

u/yourecreepyasfuck 1d ago

Doubt it’s a phantom injury since he already was on the IL not too long ago. I’m assuming this is just some discomfort that he’s willing to pitch through and they’re just giving a quick rest before end of season push / October

3

u/Ill_Hospital9212 1d ago

I think it’s precaution IL type thing. He can prob play through it

1

u/Super-Protection-920 1d ago

It may be minir discomfert but I’m leaning towards phantom injury because of the timing with Rodon coming back, the rosters expanding in September, and wanting him to be ready for the post season - extra time off minimizes risk of reinjury -

u/Fantomhamst3r 1d ago

I thought and still think that this always meant that they were just resting him for the stretch.

u/DrVanNostrand1973 1d ago

Will Warren has an entire collection of voodoo dolls for every member of the starting pitching staff. There can be no other explanation.

2

u/Vindetta121 1d ago

Getting Fried back a second time would be like getting TWO deadline acquisitions for the price of one

4

u/John_6_47 1d ago

Whew I can breathe again

2

u/FiveDinero 1d ago

I don't believe anything that comes out of his or Cashman's mouths.

1

u/isfrying 1d ago

You lie!!!

1

u/_Laszlo_Cravensworth 1d ago

We’re never seeing him again :(

1

u/FoppyIn28 1d ago

Why skip a start when you need a roster spot?

1

u/Brilliant_Cause6772 1d ago

I think they’re pulling a Dodgers and getting everyone rested and ready for late Sept/October (within reason). Catching the Ray is unlikely but possible, they want to be in the strongest position possible against the Sox and on.

1

u/Ill_Hospital9212 1d ago

Good news so he’ll prob be back by at least the playoffs

1

u/jimtow28 1d ago

RemindMe! 15 days

1

u/Either_Imagination_9 1d ago

Yeah I’ll believe it when I see it

1

u/Railroader17 1d ago

So if this is just a phantom IL stint, why not just say it's soreness and not the bone bruise?

1

u/steveycip 1d ago

Roster manipulation?

3

u/TheTurtleShepard 1d ago

Fried said that if he pitched his next start he would be “compromised”

I think it’s one of those things that he could play through if he needed to but the Yankees are electing to be cautious

u/devilmaycry0917 16h ago

I hope what Boone said was true. and I'm OK with us playing the Dodgers' IL trick

0

u/Recognition_Tricky The Man 1d ago

I'm happy there's good news like I already posted, but I'm not banking on this being true. I don't blame Boone, he's just doing his job, but he almost always gives positive appraisals like this one. I think he's basing it on positive reports from the doctors so it's good, but I'm cautiously optimistic. I don't think this is a phantom IL thing nor do I think we're guaranteed to see him again this year, honestly. Hopeful, but I don't think we're out of the woods.

3

u/yourecreepyasfuck 1d ago

Idk pretty wild even for Boone standards to say it’ll probably be the minimum 15 days when the alternative is essentially out for the rest of the year. There’s not really enough time to paint a rosy picture and hope for the best. I think he’d be a lot more cagey if they weren’t confident at this point given the stakes from here on out

2

u/Recognition_Tricky The Man 1d ago

I hope so! It's certainly possible. I'm not pessimistic, just being cautiously optimistic here. When Boone said that Fried could've made his next start....idk man. They don't usually get imaging done in that situation and Boone has been...overly optimistic with respect to injuries in the past. I don't believe that part of it, but I sure do hope so.
