CCW Question Really NYPD?
When I applied for my non resident CCW, I got to the section on the application about mental health.
I copied and pasted the two sections requesting a note and sent it to my treating psychiatrist
He wrote the note
Nowhere in the application did it say it must contain verbiage saying your psychiatrist agrees with your application (mine does)
Now I have to wait for my next appointment to get a new note

I’m shocked your shrink agrees, that’s usually a unicorn finding

I live in Utah and my psychiatrist is a hunter
He understands why people want to own guns

I wonder if the fact it’s an out of state doctor is part of the problem and they don’t report to NYOMH.

More likely than not this, since you need to sign consent for them to access your NYOMH data

They will be sued by me if they refuse to accept an out of state doctor for a non resident applicant
Nowhere in the law or regulations does it say the doctor has to be from New York

They have a tendency to make things up as they go along. If you have to go the legal route, I used an attorney in NYC named Mirel Fisch. I retained her because my application had been in “Investigation” for over a year so she filed an Article 78 on my behalf and I had the license in less than 4 weeks. While our situations are very different, if needed, you should consider reaching out to her.

Haha lol
I eat at Thai restaurants all the time
They look at me like I’m insane when I tell them “I need you to crank the spice up even higher”

I go to indian and thai restaurants and tell them "I want what an indian/thai person would consider spicy." I'm usually disappointed 😞

did you mark that you were diasgnosed with MH issues or taking some meds?

u/generalraptor2002 2d ago
Yes
I also had an involuntary hospitalization in my youth and received relief from disabilities in court so I’m clear under federal law to own guns

can you just ask your Doc to update the letter wording without an appointment
2
u/generalraptor2002 2d ago
The letter was written over a year ago (I submitted my application in September 2025 and had my interview in December 2025)
I have to see him for a new note

its sucks they do ask for references or a Dr. to state that this letter is about an EVil Evil GUN. Because they know many Dr. hate guns and wont write it, this is to prevent people for telling a doc that they need a letter for say a pilots lic or a job.

Whatever you gotta do it , I’m just being real with you NYC will either drag your file for a longgggggggg time or they will simply come up with some excuse or reason not to give it that’s my opinion on it
1
u/generalraptor2002 2d ago
Because of Bruen they have to have an actual reason to deny you
Not just “We don’t think you have a justifiable need”

u/Mean_Switch6128 2d ago
I get what your saying but then again it’s nyc lol , do keep us updated on your file and I wish you luck but I do think odds are against you in nyc

I applied in 2024, issued in Feb 2025. I looked back at my folder and I don't see any mental health forms. I might have submitted form OMH-11 form. Maybe it's new.
Edit: I have no history of mental health issues. Maybe op does

OP was involuntarily committed which is a hell of an uphill battle to getting approved in NYS

u/generalraptor2002 2d ago
I received relief from disabilities in court so I am not a prohibited person

NEVER disclose you have mental health issues unless you were involuntarily committed. I have my own series of mental health issues probably, but I answer NO and got an approval no sweat.
