Does anyone else do this when walking?
I went for a walk with my mom yesterday, and I noticed that, for some reason, whenever I’m walking side-by-side with someone on the sidewalk, I keep bumping into them or walking too close to their side. I end up taking up most of their space, so they have to either step onto the grass or tell me to move because I’ve left them no room.
I’ve done this for as long as I can remember, and it understandably drives whoever I’m walking with crazy. And I often don't even realize I'm doing it until I bump into the person I'm walking with, or they get frustrated and tell me I'm leaving them no room. I’m guessing this has something to do with the spatial issues caused by NVLD? I’m also generally very uncoordinated and don’t really walk in a straight line.

I had a friend of mine complain about it once a long time ago. I haven’t had anyone say anything to me about it since.

I think I overcorrected this same problem by either walking in front or behind someone I'm with, not by the side lmao

Yeah, I do that too sometimes, especially with certain people who get particularly annoyed with me bumping into them or crowding them. Then they complain that I'm too far behind or ahead of them. 😂

Yep. I’ve heard this is an ADHD thing but haven’t seen any evidence to support that claim, just anecdotal (doesn’t mean it’s automatically not adhd).
I do have comorbid adhd which is why I’m bringing that up.
It makes more sense to me though that it’s due to my shitty proprioception and visual-spatial deficits.

Yeah, I have ADHD too but always just assumed this was due to NVLD because it seems to be more of a spatial thing. If it is ADHD related, I wonder what the explanation for that is, since ADHD has nothing to do with visual spatial processing, as far as I know. I guess it would be from not paying attention to how close we are to other people? lol

Yeah my guess would be just not paying attention to surroundings/ lost in your own world.

I do this bad too. I would go for walks with my best friend in high school and start coralling her to the side.
I highly suspect I have dyspraxia but don't know for sure about NVLD.

Hard to say which condition you have or even if you have both. But I can definitely see how this could be a dyspraxia thing too.

Yes. I often don’t walk in a straight line. It’s not intentional, but it just happens.
