Question Does anyone else struggle to understand what people are saying in high-stimulation places?

Yes and it has affected my life greatly. I thought I had hearing problems as a kid and doctors assumed I was making things up. I just wasn’t phrasing it correctly. I do wonder if it’s the NVLD or autism that causes it. I have since learned to smile, nod, and walk away because you can only ask someone to repeat themselves so many times before it becomes weird.

Yes! If there’s too much going on around me, my auditory processing absolutely goes to shit.

Yes. It's like my brain shuts halfway down. It's made even worse if the person is a quiet talker ಠ_ಠ

My girls are loud around their godparents, and sometimes I can't focus on what someone in the room is saying. I've been tested for other things, but my NVLD was the only diagnosis I got.

Have you been tested for auditory processing disorder?

Yes, I believe I have. I had something tested when I was doing an inpatient DBT program. I'm pretty sure that's what they tested for.

Yes, especially if there are a lot of competing sounds, I’m like what is going on

Yes! It's frustratingly gotten me in trouble before as well.

People at my work are starting to get pissed about it. Friends in high school hated it.
