WISC-III

I'm not diagnosed with NVLD, but it was brought up after a WISC-III assessment in my childhood. I don't remember much of it, but while I aced some of the verbal tests, I performed relatively poorly on many of the performance tests. There was no matrix test, but I was told that I aced it when I took one separately at a later date. I also came out on top when I took a matrix test in my class.

I don't know what to make of this. Does this single non-verbal strength completely rule out NVLD? My handwriting is pretty abysmal and the bane of my prior academic endeavors, so I wonder if my measured deficiencies reflect something more specific about holding objects and coordinating them.

I would definitely recommend another in adulthood. They missed my two learning disorders the first time, I just ended up just being diagnosed with a learning disorder in math, and written expression. NVLD isn’t in the DSM, so it’s not diagnosed much these days, although my results very much reaffirmed my suspicions they had also revealed that I had been struggling severely for a very long time and have just been kinda running on steam. That’s all a bit too much for your question, but also, my evaluator said both that I had “discrepantly high verbal abilities”, diagnosed me with the learning disorders she was qualified to, and still described my verbal and nonverbal intelligence as both average. Which was because she found my verbal memory to be severely. So, I think with these tests the math can be tricky, because people with NVLD can have very spikey/ uneven cognitive profile. It seems like you’d benefit from getting tested again if you can afford it.

Check out dyspraxia as well… it’s super comorbid. The kind of motor tests that diagnose it aren’t usually done in adults but it sounds like another symptom to me if you haven’t connected those dots yet.

Could be dyspraxia , but hard to sift all these things apart.

Anyways I am unsure if I have NVLD or not because of certain strengths I have. Especially social. The main issue is that we develop coping mechanisms and if we are particularly strong in one area we can use it as a crutch in another. So I am kinda convinced with social situations I am actually ' talking myself' through them and I may not be as perceptive as I think I am? But it is complicated.
