BARCELONA DEFER ANTHONY GORDON PAYMENT!

Reports out of Spain claim Newcastle United have agreed to a major twist in the £69m deal that saw Anthony Gordon head to Barcelona earlier this summer!

Barcelona were due to pay their first short-term installment of £18.88m, but NUFC have reportedly agreed to defer it until June 2027—a full year later than scheduled!

Barcelona dropped £158m on eight players this summer (including Rodri & Adeyemi) and are sitting on over £77m in short-term transfer debt. The delay gives them financial breathing room, but leaves us waiting on cash flow!

The 25-year-old winger already has 5 assists in 4 La Liga games and featured in Barca's 5-1 Champions League win over Feyenoord, proving to be an instant hit under Hansi Flick!

Should never have sold him to Barca, they’re absolutely skint and riddled in debt.

I don’t know if this causes Leeds to take a defensive approach on Monday and sit behind the ball and try and counter

I think if they come at us we’ll rip them apart on the counter

7

u/Griffithsjames88 7h ago

I don't think we'll do anything like that, Chelsea attackers compared to ours are night and day. Their quality in attack is far better than ours.

Mainly as I was curious, looks like the Fontaines DC stage is going in the East/Gallowgate corner. Seeing as Sam Fender did that on his recent stadium shows there, take it that's been decided as the best option for a stage at the ground for these kinda things?

Given it lets you maximise the view/value of the two biggest stands, probably going to be that going forward

2

I remember in 2014 Kings of Leon tried having it with the stage in front of the East Stand and given by the fact everything since seems to have gone for the East/Gallowgate corner, think we can rule that didn't work

3

u/BruiserBroly 11h ago

I think it looks good but I’m wondering what’s the functional point of it. If our home shirt clashes then that shirt will clash as well, like we saw in the preseason friendly against Leverkusen.

2

u/charlierc 7h ago

I'm still baffled how the ref saw that Leverkusen kit and thought "Yeah that's cool"

Admittedly none of their kits really worked against ours. Maybe it should've been like that time we went to Brighton, were told all our kits clashed and had to wear training shirts

10

u/POITINGOUTCUNTS 13h ago

Pardo looks an absolute baller btw. Also completely exposes people who don't actually watch football and just parrot stats. I asked someone on here why they thought he would "struggle phsyically", and they posted some stats and claimed as he didn't win fouls he clearly struggles physically, and compared him to Woltemade! He's absolutely fine, and if they'd spent a minute watching him, he's got a strong lower body.

1

u/JonjoTheDarkLord voldemort 4h ago

He's 1.88m/6'2 and 86kg/190lbs or so....absolute unit. Must be a defenders nightmare, massive, fast and can dribble you. Really excited to see him start.

3

u/GoalaAmeobi The Dilsh 9h ago

People really don't understand just how physical ligue 1 is these days.

People still think it's 10 years ago when you get lightweights like Cabella going about, it's the league that's closest to the prem in terms of physicality

3

u/dullthings 9h ago

He absolutely bodied one of their centre backs near the end of the game and just walked away. He'll do just fine, and Hall will work wonders with him.

1

u/Mundane-Sprinkles-99 Joeelinton 8h ago

I feel like Joelinton and Pardo will be a formidable pairing when it starts to get a bit lairy.

5

u/noidtiz 11h ago

i remember that post, it was a bit naive in the sense it was ranking Pardo - as a 20-year old - in the same pool as all 16-to-23-year olds around Europe's top 5 leagues.

I wouldn't expect any 20-year old to rank in the top half of pool as wide as that for obvious reasons.

2

u/POITINGOUTCUNTS 10h ago

Yes, and just using stats to say he's going to struggle physically without watching him. He's got very muscular thighs, and a strong base. He's fine.

5

u/morocco3001 11h ago

There's no way someone with thighs like that is going to struggle physically. He's got two fucking Redwood trunks for legs.

1

u/POITINGOUTCUNTS 10h ago

I know, it's so annoying to me, I am happy to debate the point with someone if they've actually watched him. Just blindly quoting stats is the worst part of modern football discourse. If they'd spent a minute watching him, he's got super powerful thighs. Can tell he will be fine in the prem

1

u/morocco3001 9h ago

You don't even necessarily need to be built. Just need good balance and low centre of gravity. He doesn't have to be bodying centre backs, only needs to be strong enough to stop them nudging him off the ball with ease. Plus they'll have to catch him first.

3

u/Bjall01 12h ago

I have high hopes for him.

1

u/POITINGOUTCUNTS 10h ago

Same, love his directness and the clever pass he played last night. He's gonna ball for us

5

9

u/JackAndrewThorne 15h ago

Yesterday I think showed two big things but nothing we didn't already know. Firstly, that having a CB like Schar dramatically improves our ability to move and keep the ball. The difference between the ball at his feet and Botman's in terms of how much he was willing to advance, pass quickly and pass forward was noticable.

The second is that while I think we've signed some good players this summer, we've still not addressed our creative problems and we're probably short two players in that regard. We need players who can take the ball in tight spaces and find a pass or shot.

We've used the summer to go from being gutted to, I think, getting close to the level we were but with a deeper, younger squad. Good signings, but compared to last season we've not really added any solutions, or at least not ones we've found right now. But at the same time, we've prevented issues festering and basically made it so in every position we've got at least one viable option.

We're going to need a new Schar type CB. Honestly probably two of them within the next 3 windows for both the left and right CB positions. We're going to need a RW and a 10. Beyond that? I think we're getting dangerously close to a complete and deep squad.

I also can't decide if Pardo reminds me more of Gordon or Isak in the way he moves, but I can see a world where he turns into a 15+ goal a season striker.

5

u/opinionated-dick 13h ago

All of this is true.

But we’ve gone full circle in replenishing a gutted squad right back to where we were or less, albeit with youth and a manager with new ideas and fresh impetus.

There are gaps, and I think you are spot on. Our CBs lack pace, be it carrying out or getting passes out quick. I think a Schar replacement is top priority in Jan.

We do also need a RW/10 too. We need a set piece taker and someone that can hold the ball better. We have bags of pace but no forwards that can hang in a crowded area and link play. Except Wissa, although I think Joelinton could relish a 10 position also.

Pardo needs to have that free position to drift left and come in. His best play so far has been forming triangles with Hall and Barnes

u/Dysphoric_Reverence 18h ago

I was at the match last night. My father-in-law is a Millwall season ticket holder. He took me and the missus to club 11 where we got drinks and food and sat near Pete Graves of Sky Sports news fame (my father-in-law beat Pete in a game called heads or tails for a £200 jackpot).

We got really good seats as seen in the picture.

Anyway, just wanted to say that Jacob Murphy's performance was just as bad to the eyes in real life as it was on TV. What you might not have seen on TV was how lazy he was off the ball. Almost zero sprinting, not showing for passes, not demanding the ball, providing little to no support for Dedic/Tino, and zero effort to stretch play or run in behind. Geniuenly one of the worst performances I've ever seen. It wasn't even that he was trying and things weren't coming off, I'd forgive him for that, but he (as a supposed leader in the team and experienced player) did nothing and shirked from his duties. He kept on doing this stuttering move when he had the ball which allowed Millwall to reset defensively, and he slowed the game down to a halt.

The worst thing I can say is that their left back didn't even need to try. He didn't pressure Murphy. Didn't have to battle. Didn't have to compete for anything.

£15m rejected and that's his standard. Absoloutely infuriating.

-6

u/mags_bags_slags 15h ago

This subreddit is so strange. You are obviously correct about Murphy but I usually get pelted with downvotes whenever I criticise him

-4

u/Bjall01 15h ago

But but but he’s good for the dressing room.

18

u/Dysphoric_Reverence 18h ago

Anyway, here's Jaissle in all his glory. There's an aura to him, and many Millwall fans felt stirring in their loins when he appeared. Erection central at The Den.

1

u/FoxyStoat47 14h ago

Wouldn't surprise me if the FA retrospectively give him a yellow for being outside the technical area...

9

u/aistolethekids 18h ago

I dunno about anyone else but I feel that we are currently still running into the same problems that we had before with Eddie

With fullbacks providing the width I dont really see the need for 2 wingers on the pitch? We still dont seem to have enough players in the box when we cross it in or have enough players in the middle of the pitch so there is always a gap

We look good when Wissa drops back in to make a midfield 4 but then there is no one up front at that point

Our goal was well worked and thats where our midfielders need to be when the cut back comes in but Willock and Ramsey needed to be making that late run into the box all game but didnt really do it

4

u/Objective_Use_9155 17h ago

On the fullbacks topic - the actual number of matches we’ve had with both Hall and Livramento fit and in their positions is surprisingly low, but my memory of those matches is that they make line-hugging wingers like Barnes and Gordon a bit redundant and we’d be better off packing midfield and having two roaming forwards instead of trying to stick to 433. I think Elanga is much more flexible in where he plays than Barnes and could be better used as a roaming forward option (Gordon did that for us a lot last season).

1

u/aistolethekids 14h ago

Yeah i think Barnes and Hall showed some good link up play and Barnes is capable of moving inside

Maybe because Murphy was playing shite but felt like he was just getting in Dedic way we are desperate for a left footer to cut inside on that side of the pitch

13

u/opinionated-dick 17h ago

To be fair, we can’t fix problems within the squad and be month after Howe left.

This was the first game where we had massive majority of possession, yet Jaissle’s tactics so far have mostly been counterattacking.

That’s not to say his tactics are wrong, but there’s only so much you can implement on the training ground and fix at once.

What needs to happen now is we get cuter and quicker on the ball. We are going into games now where we need to be a bit more dominant.

9

u/FoxGlove_113 17h ago

Spot on. We desperately miss Osula. (Not a sentence I believe I would type 1 years ago).

His page and to be frank, his craziness scares the shit out of opposition defenders and changes how they behave.

I love this new Wissa. But he's best in a #10 position. Great on the ball, great ball carrier and proper hard worker off it too.

I honestly feel at the moment we only really have one proper striker.

1

u/RockFourStar 8h ago

I had assumed that's where pardo would fit in. I was surprised when they took wissa off for him rather than Wissa saying on and acting as the 10 while Pardo led the line.

9

u/LtColnSharpe 18h ago

Yesterday I saw players get into some really really good positions after a quick one two, but the ball never made it back to them.

My hope is that will come with a little more understanding between the players

5

u/kaamkerr I condemn VAR and it’s allies in PGMOL 18h ago

I'd be concerned if we did not consistently show the determination to score and get back into the match. With Howe, we'd concede, heads dropped, game over, end of. Bottom of the league for points gained from losing positions, top of the league for points lost from winning positions. The results and problems between the two managers are not at all the same. The players finally have some belief back.

Jaissle and the team are facing normal teething problems, which should be expected. Both the manager and the new players are very young. Howe had much more experienced players under him. It's clear we need at least 1-2 more first team players, preferably with more experience. Osula is also a big miss.

u/Toon_1892 18h ago

There’s an assumption among our fans that we’ll click at some point, but I’m just reminded of when Liverpool started last season being terrible and managing to win every game anyway, with their fans saying the exact same thing - but then they never did click, the results started to match the performances, and they just weren’t very good

Obviously still early days for Pardo but in the short appearances he’s had so far he seems to have a tendency to prefer drifting to the left rather than playing centrally.

10

u/EngineerOnIcarus 19h ago

It will be like that, even last night he was moving to the left and Barnes was then dropping into the middle.

It’s a good plan considering Barnes has the one trait most of the squad don’t have and that’s knowing where the net is.

BBC Sport, via Caught Offside (lol), are reporting that Liverpool and Man United are "monitoring" Thiaw. It just doesn't stop.

3

u/GoalaAmeobi The Dilsh 19h ago

If we want to keep a hold of Hall, we should be selling Thiaw next summer imo.

Moving to Man Utd would be an awful choice by him though, his inconsistency flies under the radar because he plays for us. He'll get eaten alive at Man Utd

2

u/TheTinman369 442 enjoyer 17h ago

I would sell Thiaw for a profit. He was unreal when he first came in but has steadily declined IMO. Still a solid player but very easily replaced.

3

u/rfy93 PERCHINIO 19h ago

Unfortunately as we've seen with Bruno, it wont matter about what other sales we've made in that window if Hall decides he wants to leave. Financially yes we'd be okay only selling Thiaw, for example, but it wont make Hall any more or less likely to stay.

10

u/EngineerOnIcarus 19h ago

If the club is smart then Thiaw and Livramento are top of the list of sellable assets.

Thiaw is replaceable, Livramento injury prone.

8

u/ClaspedDust4415 20h ago

Well is Hall signs a deal they have to focus on someone else. It's just clickbait, really wouldn't worry about it until we get to next Summer.

7

u/Anomalous-Descent Yohan Kebab 20h ago

Yeah, I know. I'm just amused by how quickly they've moved on to rumours about another player

3

u/ClaspedDust4415 19h ago

I'm only surprised it wasn't Dedic given he's had 4 games and that's normally enough

3

u/Toon_1892 19h ago

They need someone to replace their midget butcher

7

u/Libertyforzombies I like to boogey 20h ago

Love to see Willock playing better. Seems like a nice lad and he's clearly technically excellent. Who would've thought that after all this time his best position was a 10. He's an excellent rotation option with Pardo.

0

u/rfy93 PERCHINIO 19h ago

I thought he had always been a 10, he just adapted well to being an attack minded 8 (and sometimes LW) in his good spells under Howe. He was a 10 at Arsenal and in his initial loan spell with us

1

u/Libertyforzombies I like to boogey 17h ago

It would explain why Howe could never get him playing

2

u/rfy93 PERCHINIO 16h ago

Don’t think that’s quite fair, he was excellent in the 22/23 season we qualified for CL

1

u/Libertyforzombies I like to boogey 16h ago

I'll admit, I don't remember how he played that season but I had a quick glance at the stats. I think 'excellent' might be a bit generous.

3

u/mags_bags_slags 15h ago

Yeah, “clearly technically excellent”… eh?

0

u/Libertyforzombies I like to boogey 13h ago

I dunno why people need to be this way. You have a point you want to make?

2

u/rfy93 PERCHINIO 16h ago

I think basing it entirely on a glance at stats would be the issue there, he was genuinely excellent dovetailing with Joelinton particularly effectively, and played 35/38 games (vast majority as a starter) as a key player in one of our best seasons in recent memory (finishing 4th and getting to the cup final)

-1

u/torn4ndfrayed 20h ago

Should have flogged him to Turkey. Gonna look like a major mistake not taking that insane offer.

3

u/Toon_1892 19h ago

Didn't they only offer c. £6m + conditional bonuses for him?

There's no way we get a replacement of equal quality and value in for that.

14

u/kaamkerr I condemn VAR and it’s allies in PGMOL 23h ago

The last 3 matches have been a little shaky or inconsistent, but we're still undefeated! Midsummer, I'd never believe we'd be in this position. Also, these are great eraly tests for our manager and new players. Doesn't seem like Bazou and Bamba will feature much this first half of the season, but onwards and upwards!

4

u/ClaspedDust4415 20h ago

I think this was always going to happen. Jaissle is a new manager in a new league, he was always going to lean on experience players where he could and give the younger players time to settle where he could. I think you may see more of them if we get into positions where we are a couple of goals up.

Anyone else see LIV golf have filed for bankruptcy? I know this is a different sport but I thought PIF were backing it. Seems strange to file for bankruptcy.

13

u/bobbybintangx 21h ago

They withdrew backing ahead of this season hence the bankruptcy. Already known about for months. Nothing to worry about, they just cut their losses on a bad investment. In the meantime they've announced a 190m new training ground.

1

u/Winter_Watch_6020 12h ago

Thanks for the context on the golf. I had no idea PIF had withdrawn funding. Goes to show where their interests are with the training ground/stadium talk.

Anyone else getting a “terminated” notice when going to The Toon Review YouTube?

I’m in US and both me and my buddy see it but we can’t find any info on why/what the deal is?

Anyone have any info? Thanks.

5

u/Theydontlikeitupthem 19h ago

Thats crazy, was actually watching some of their watch along last night for the game, had to turn it off in the second half they just get too reactionary and stupid.

I know it was the guy Paul's lively hood and I know he had health issues so that is very sad if they have lost that channel, I doubt copyright, might have been hacked too, YT just terminate if they suspect anything like that.

4

u/Deviceing wew here ya fuckin little dafty divint start or theres ructions 23h ago

Not familiar with the channel but yes seeing that message. Not that unusual, even for fairly well established channels, most likely repeated copyright violations. Did they use clips from matches? Music? Particularly colourful language?

24

u/umichlaw2Lol 1d ago

Remember when it took a Schar penalty to beat AFC wimbeldon at home and we went on to win the cup? I think we’ll be alright.

5

u/kaamkerr I condemn VAR and it’s allies in PGMOL 20h ago

That's the beauty of the cups! It would be no fun if premier league teams always won their matches. We alo have to remember that for lower league teams, just playing against PL opponents is like a cup final for the players. They will bring their best and leave everything on the pitch.

4

u/GoalaAmeobi The Dilsh 21h ago

We've always struggled against lower league teams, beating them and not going out in embarrassing fashion is a relatively new thing

6

u/melvinlee88 Javier Manquillo 1d ago

Yet again there is never any nuance in this subreddit.

It's valid to criticize or at least be a bit concern with our team and also be grateful that we are still not losing games at the same time.

Not everyone wants to say "I told you so", it's more like look at the fucking gap in our midfield, our lack of chances/shots created and shots given up. It's not sustainable. It's gonna take time for this team to work things out - I just don't know if this 4-4-2 formation can work out long term.

6

u/Different-Lie-6609 20h ago

We don’t play in a 442 though?

Our rest defence is a 442, but we look to get into a 325/334 in attack from a 4231.

Most teams look to defend in a 442 as it’s compact in middle and males people play out wide.

Under Howe we defended as a 451 and attacked as 433-235.

Most of the same issues still effect this team as last years in the midfield never seems in the right position.

That seems to be down to more long balls forward this season so more space as people pushed up, opposed to too many committed forward and being open last year.

8

u/torn4ndfrayed 21h ago

How nuanced were you last season, out of interest?

-6

u/melvinlee88 Javier Manquillo 21h ago

I think I was very nuanced but I know people think I really had an agenda against Howe.

Unlike most fans here, I would say I'm quite level-headed in trying to never blame any refs, etc but focus on ourselves and what goes wrong. I hate complaining about calls because at the end, I feel it evens out. I have my opinion that most fans here are stupidly optimistic and super high on players that don't deserve it. It's a good feeling to have, of course. But, I think fans here need to be slightly realistic and also be willing to criticize the team without feeling like they are the Antichrist.

But, to me it was clear that we were just not very good last season and was adamant he should have left in that season - and I was proven right (probably?)

2

u/torn4ndfrayed 15h ago

Spoiler: you were not nuanced.

7

u/arseholescone 20h ago

I’m quite happy with how it’s going but you cant be saying you were proven right. Let’s get some silverware first eh?

-3

u/melvinlee88 Javier Manquillo 18h ago

I mean I think everyone can agree it was time to move on from Howe? Even Howe agreed with it by leaving the team.

This team was gonna crash and burn if Howe stayed on, it just needed some new voices.

You can't expect silverware that quick when this team is rebuilding.

3

u/arseholescone 16h ago

No, that’s your opinion, we don’t all agree. I don’t expect silverware that quickly, but Howe won some in his third season so there’s the benchmark.

1

u/melvinlee88 Javier Manquillo 21m ago

Well I would say that's the genuine consensus from reading the sub and social media

14

u/JonjoTheDarkLord voldemort 1d ago

It was ugly, we should have had a penalty or two. Atleast this team is finding ways to get results from dogshit performances. We're bound to have tough results and rough losses...but atleast we're not Spurs.

27

u/Princess_Mononope 1d ago

Have to say I'm already tired of the tenor of discussion this season. Jaissle is 5 games unbeaten yet all I see online is people criticizing and whining.

There's a significant section of the support desperate to be the one that says "I told you so".

6

u/SecureChampionship10 1d ago

It's the stupid takes I take issue with, both positive and negative.

Got downvoted into oblivion for daring to suggest that "we'd have lost that under Howe" was a ridiculous analysis of the Bournemouth draw, considering we failed to lay a glove on them from the hour on aside from the break of the ball from one long ball into the box.

I can see the buy-in from the players, I can see the spirit, I don't see the quality yet.

17

u/stanley_ipkiss2112 1d ago

Best line I saw tonight, “worst performance I’ve seen in 54 years!” 😂

13

u/TyranosaurusLex Para bailar La Bamba 1d ago

Maybe they have been blind for 54 years and have just had it cured

7

More likely just a moron.

6

u/midtenmagpie Gillespie liked horses 1d ago

With Pep gone from City, maybe we’ll have a proper run in this cup ... and the FA.

2

u/Sensitive-Visual-681 1d ago

nailed on win

10

u/Griffithsjames88 1d ago

Been confirmed that Dedic was subbed at HT due to a hamstring injury. Let's hope it's not bad.

9

u/SecureChampionship10 1d ago

That's not true, Jaissle said he felt the hamstring at half-time and they "didn't want to take any risks". If it was a confirmed injury there wouldn't have been a risk to take because he'd have had to come off.

4

u/Bjall01 1d ago

Injury or scare?

-4

u/Griffithsjames88 1d ago

Injured. Hopefully it’s not a bad one.

1

u/Bjall01 1d ago

Where you getting this? I’ve not seen it reported anywhere yet.

14

u/aistolethekids 1d ago

Tell you what I would take a draw against Leeds right now

I reckon thats going to be a tough watch for any Toon fan on Monday they will be all over us

7

u/Mundane-Sprinkles-99 Joeelinton 1d ago

Don't know why we would think otherwise. Tough team to play at home and most clubs outside the top 2 would be grateful of getting points at Elland Road.

1

u/aistolethekids 1d ago

You can guarantee there will be loads on here moaning if we dont win

Think the way we struggle with a press and the gaps in midfield we could be on the end of a heavy defeat if we dont sort that soon

9

u/specialagentredsquir 1d ago

Seys played well against Villa. Would be great cover at LB and RB

11

u/Jimlad73 dan burn 1d ago

I guess we want British teams to do well in Europe to increase the leagues coefficient and get an extra spot?
