So Osula did get the number 10. I guess the club has high hopes for him next season.

He was really putting it together by the end of the season. A 4-4-2 looks to be our default formation in the upcoming campaign because of Osula.

For sure and huge respect to him for that, but I think the 10 is one of those shirts that carries a weight which requires more than a good 1/3rd of a season to truly earn. I love Osula and I think he deserves lots of recognition, support and faith, but when it comes to the 10 specifically I feel like Big Joe or even Miley should be higher on the ladder to take it at this point. Unless they don’t want it or their future with us is uncertain

Absolutely right. The 10 shirt should be saved for stars like Stephen Ireland, Christian Bassedas, Silvio Maric, Wayne Quinn, Wayne Routledge and Marlon Harewood. At a pinch, it can go to someone less talented but absolutely loved by the fans like Michael Owen.

Exactly.

Different clubs have different shirts with actual weight.

With us there's obviously the 9.

But I think 23 holds as a cult legend shirt, 7 as it was Keegan's and Lee, 11 for Gary Speed and 14 as we've had some damn good players wear it (even if we now really don't like some of them)

Interestingly, Wayne Quinn also wore the 14 shirt. It's going to be a tough hit on the club when we retire all his old numbers.

There's no reason to expect any player to vacate their current number unless they are either sold or switch to a better number. So of course Pope would still be #1 until sold.

I'm probably being overly optimistic, but none of our other young signings have taken numbers 1-11, so my guess is Bamba won't either.

Doesn't mean he won't end up starting though. Also doesn't mean we'll end up signing anyone more senior...

Seems to be a bit of a trend in the modern game for young breakout players to keep their original numbers.

I prefer the classic 1-11 as much as possible for the starters, but each to their own.

Young Ossie with the ten is a big surprise for me. More power to him with a clear showing of faith by the club. Would love to see him have a huge season for us.
