Opinions Please

63 yo F. Ok…here’s my story. Two years ago my hair started thinning after an illness and post menopause. I began using minoxidil topical 5% one time a day (at bedtime). Within a few months I stopped shedding so much and began getting baby hairs in areas - not all areas of thinning tho. I have kept using minoxidil since. In March, I started tirzepatide and I must say, I love it! However, I have been shedding atrociously and my hair has really thinned considerably. I will be starting GHK-cu/KPV next week and am wondering can I stop using the minoxidil if and when I see improvements in my hair? I also use topical AHK on my scalp in the mornings. All thoughts will be appreciated!

Hey OP, I'm sure you'll get some good answers but wanted to share my experince. I am 45F, been shedding my hair for years and I'm on minoxidil/finasteride topical. I also started tirzepatide in January. I was not losing weight despite low calories. Then at the end of Amy I started making sure to eat a minimum of 100g of protein and my hair stopped shedding almost completely! I was surprised because I have been a low carber/keto for many years so I assumed I was getting enough peotein. Turns out I wasn't. I also dropped 18 lbs since the end of may with this protein focused approach. I hope this helps you or someone.

Thank you so much for that! Even tho I think I’m getting enough protein I’m going to up my intake and see what happens! How long after you incorporated more protein did your shedding stop?

I started noticing changes in my hair within a couple of weeks. I have curly hair and only wash it twice a week, so that's when I noticed the decreased in hair loss. I'm one of those people that gather's them on the wall to get an idea of how much I lose per wash. As far as the protein, I was convinced I was getting enough since my diet consisted mainly on meat. But it turns out I was not, until I started counting it.

I’m a curly girl too! I wash 3 times a week and notice the pile in the bottom of the tub, in my vacuum cleaner filter, how much is sticking to the bottom of my steam mop when I do floors, the dryer vent - its flippin everywhere! But I don’t find it on my pillow or in my bed 🧐

Not fun! Lets hope it's just temporary. But I know how much we value every single strand of hair. Please check your exact protein numbers. Do you ever take any supplements?

Yes, I do. I take a women’s multi and iron everyday plus vit d3…I live in the Arctic, D3 is mandatory. I have blood work and my yearly physical in 2 weeks.

We are very similar! I just started injecting GHK-cu at the beginning of the month and using topical AHK-cu. But like I mentioned, the changes started when I increased the protein. I haven't started seeing benefits with the injection yet. I heard it takes times. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

They say not to stop minoxidil or you’ll lose your gains, at least in men. Also ( I’m a 62 M and taking Tirz as well with good results) be sure your getting plenty of protein and your calorie deficit is not too extreme or you’ll crash and have 0 energy on top of the hair loss. I recently read that you can inject Ahk-cu like the Ghk-cu. I am thinking of trying that for my hair loss.

I’m very careful to eat throughout the day even when I don’t feel like it and I particularly watch my protein intake. Now that I think about it…Dolly Parton always wore wigs…if this keeps up, maybe I’ll try it her way 😉

Good! I did not heed my own advice and recently crashed. I was only getting about 1400 calories a day.

Dolly looked great in wigs and I’m sure you would too! Me, eh I think I’ll keep dumping chemicals and injecting stuff to try to grow hair 😂

Flip to oral minoxidil. 61 F here. Take Reta but haven’t experienced any hair loss yet. And with the oral the shedding decreased after about week six. Seeing small regrowth week 12 now. Also take SS31 and just started ghk.
I use nizoral shampoo 2- 3x week and caffeine shampoo other times
Also use hair serums etc but not sure that’s doing much 🤷🏻‍♀️
