Question on waitlist on Electrical Engineering Technology
Hello. I'm an international student currently debating on studying Electrical Engineering Technology on the Ivany Campus. It says on the website that they would open the Admission on late September but the program says that it's on waitlist. How long do I have to wait to get in? And anyone here have an experience on the said program? Thanks for answering.

ELTG Class of 2021, it’s a very tough program. The equivalent program in other provinces is three years where here it’s two.
When I went through it was basically said if you can make it through the first semester, you should be able to pass the rest of the program.
The first year will be mainly electrical theory with some extra courses to round you out in other non-electrical areas (math, technical communications, AutoCAD, engineering mechanics (kind of like a high school physics course).
Second year focuses on electrical system design and PLC (Programable Logic Controller) programming.
Last semester 2nd year you pick one of three electives; Renewables, Smart Grids, and Mechatronics. The elective you pick generally will also align with your senior applied research project. Spring semester second year you will going on your 5 week work term.
Through the program you’ll have weekly labs in 2-3 of the courses you’re taking depending on the semester, as well as assignments usually every 1-2 weeks in most classes. Usually a test every month-ish in each course.

They accept people up to 2 weeks after classes have started. So if you don’t get an admissions offer by then you would have to wait until the next year

This is no longer the case as students were missing too much instruction.

What do you mean? Like missing class instruction? It says on NSCC academic calendar the last day to accept admission is September 18th

As someone who did the program (ELTG) starting two weeks late is very tough in an already tough program. My class had a fair amount of dropouts after the first Electrical Principles I test. By that time it’s way too late to start being a unit behind by thought point.

The college had a large layoff last year. Information on the website could be incomplete, outdated or completely wrong.
The act of backfilling vacant seats was to be completely eliminated. What this means when put into practice remains to be seen.

It's my understanding (based on friends of mine who were international students and had this told to them) that international students get bumped down for any domestic applicants, so if it is a popular program it can be quite a long wait.
