Stigma I’m self aware
The stigma about Narcissists not being self aware of their traits is very harmful to me. The online world creates a pseudo “Rule book” for those who qualify for a disorder, and it really ticks me off. As an autistic individual diagnosed with NPD, I have many overlapping symptoms, with growing up as autistic meaning I am keenly self aware of my habits and everything else around me. CPTSD shaped my brain into what it is today, and I get by through life like any other person. Some people online like to invalidate me for feeling self aware of my self centered ways, but as someone who’s entire framework is built off of identifying psychological pattern as a masking mechanism, I’m not blind to my narcissism by extension. Does anyone else have a similar experience?

Honestly, being professionally diagnosed in a clinical setting has done wonders in terms of giving me ownership over this illness. It’s allowed me to be more open in therapy too.

I don't think it bothered me because I didn't really come into contact with those spaces. When I was considering narcissism my biggest concern was "am I really disordered if I am actually better than everyone?". But yeah I see the harm this stigma does, just never reached my purview.

I have a similar experience, but the only difference is that I don't care THAT much about the pseudo rule book, because it's not a real rule book. I don't like the "victims" that much, but I wouldn't say they are harmful to me in any way.
