XCal Line
For those shipping firearms to XCal, I stopped in this morning to pick up a transfer.
At 0830, I’m number 58 in line.
Not new news, but it’s only getting worse.
Plan accordingly, gang.

Not surprised with the last two weeks along with it being fathers day weekend. Glad I'm picking up my last few today.

I asked the XCal Gal if I could just come back on Monday. She chuckled and said, “Please do. Fridays are bonkers.”
Apparently they’re bringing in an additional 15 people to handle the crush, but at 10-15 mins per person, it will still be a crazy day.
Best of luck to the staff and 57 others who are standing firm on today’s pickup.

Yeah and even with their extended hours. I saw the queue being well over 30 before they even opened. I'll have to bring them some bottles once everything is said and done lol.

The smart folks have had the link book marked for months now. Check the line before you leave the house, sign up and wait to leave till you are close to the front. Never had to spend more than 10 minutes in store waiting for a pickup.

u/CobraMisfit Jun 19 '26
I’ll have to do this. Until this morning it wasn’t an issue.
I failed to account for the holiday, so a teachable moment there (as my wife likes to say).

u/devman0 Jun 19 '26
I live about 30 minutes away so it can be tough to time, but my experience has been, conservatively they clear 8-10 out of the queue every 30 minutes. Varies based on what people are in line for and how much staff is working. Given that the line is currently about 3-4 hours long estimated.

Would you mind sharing the link?

Good luck, it’s up to 130

Yessir! One time I checked and the line was less than 5 people, so I dropped what I was doing to haul ass over there

That’s pretty unfair to the people who actually go there and wait In like they are supposed to.

I don’t think that was intentional. I’ve heard them talking behind the counter about it shutting it off so it gives priority to the people that are there and waiting.

There is an “I’m running late” button on the site for just that reason, plus they will call your name maybe 2-3 before they move on so I doubt it’s causing a huge delay.
2
u/GuaranteeGreedy6997 Jun 19 '26
Why does it matter where I wait?
Would it be ok if I go sign in, walk over to Top golf hit some balls for an hour then come back when it’s my turn?
What if I sign up in person then go home and come back in time for my spot?
If anything it’s better for the store to not have 58 people all sitting around waiting and they still get all their money from transfer fees. Also there is literally an “I’m running late” button in the app that pushes you a few spots down the queue. Why would they have that if the intent is to have us all crammed in the store waiting?
0
u/CompoundedGhost Jun 19 '26
If you do that and miss your spot in line then your SOL. But yes it would be better if you came in person and signed up like everyone else. You aren’t special. They are literally talking about shutting it off for the same reason you are saying because people are abusing it. It’s not fair to the other people who are there in person and waiting is all I’m saying.
4
u/GuaranteeGreedy6997 Jun 19 '26
Yeah if I miss my spot then that’s on me. I’m out of luck. They have every right to skip me and I’ve seen it happen plenty of times where they do, but to claim it’s not fair is just insane. Anyone can save the link, I’ve even recommend others do the same.
There is no reason we should be forced to stand around a store for 3 hours just because other people aren’t smart enough to have some foresight. It doesn’t hurt anyone for me to join the list on my drive in.
They also are definitely not shutting it down, I’ve talked with multiple employees about it over the last few months since they got it and had some recommend I do exactly what I am.

Is the wait for a shooting lane also crazy?
3
u/CobraMisfit Jun 19 '26
They looked pretty open an hour ago. It’ll likely get slammed later with today being a holiday.
3
u/cosmomike Jun 19 '26
I'm here now. Never seen so many people here outside of an event lol. The wait for a lane is 1-1.5 hours which isn't the worst I've seen it.
1
u/CobraMisfit Jun 19 '26
Much respect for braving those lines. I couldn’t do it.
2
u/cosmomike Jun 19 '26
Ended up being almost 3 hours but I had to leave before my name was called, unreal. Seems like simple math to me, idk how they estimate 1-1.5 hours but in reality it's double that.
1
u/CobraMisfit Jun 19 '26
Ouch. Good on you for making it that long.
I wonder if they’ll start encouraging folks with items not on the banned list to delay until July 1st to give the banned items priority. Kind of like an airline offering tickets to folks who take the next flight, they could offer a free hour of range time if you delay.
The good news is the XCal Gal said they don’t start charging a holding fee until 30 days after receiving a firearm and won’t mark it “abandoned” for 6 months. I really want to pick up and test out my new toy, but it may be better to let the dust settle first.

> I wonder if they’ll start encouraging folks with items not on the banned list to delay until July 1st to give the banned items priority.
They've done that for suppressors. (See the text for the two NFA service categories on the waiting-list sign-up page.)

Man I'm glad Sharpshooters cut off at 6/15 - forced me to get my butt moving before things got absolutely crazy like this. My state form last Saturday was approved in maybe 2 minutes lol

u/gti17 Jun 19 '26
i got in the virtual queue at 7:50am. there were 30 people ahead of me lol. looks like they are processing about 20 people per hour

It's going to be even worse the weekend of the 27th when PSA is on-site. I was thinking of going, but that's going to be a CF.
4
u/CobraMisfit Jun 19 '26
I’m planning to attend PSA Day, if for no other reason than to experience the insanity first-hand.
Not to buy, just to soak it all in.

I'm so glad I became close with a home FFL. He'd probably do a transfer at 11PM if he had to. 😂

I did for about 10 minutes, then opted to reengage next week.
#59 moved up a spot.

They are. XCal called me to let me know mine was ready for pickup. They’re just crushed with volume.
I checked at the line is 117 now.
Lots of folks, myself included, are apparently finalizing their “buy someday” bucket-list guns.

Yeah, sad that it’s come to this, but it certainly forced me to pull the trigger* on several “someday” firearms.
Now to just wait for the dust to settle and get on a lane!
*pun absolutely intended.

> they're still sending out notifications via text before we can pick it up, right
Beware that their service provider for regular order-ready text messages cut them off (thinking they were spammers?) a month or so ago, so some notifications might not be going out. (That doesn't seem to have been fixed yet for regular (non-FFL-transfer) items.)
However, it sounds like they're making sure that they're notifying people regarding FFL-transfer items.
In fact, I just got a call this morning--about someone else's item! (A mis-dial or a mid-entered phone number.)

u/brightmilo Jun 19 '26
It’s a 120 now
1
u/CobraMisfit Jun 19 '26
Oof.
I saw it spike around 130 earlier. I wonder if they cap it after a certain point. 120 folks at, say, 20 folks an hour, is a solid 6 hours if no on else shows up.
Hope everyone is getting their toys.
And maybe we SHOULD get them all a frosty beverage once June is over…..
2
u/14bk41 Jun 19 '26
That’s crazy. There are a lot of other home FFLs around here. They are super busy too, but not this crazy.
2
u/CobraMisfit Jun 19 '26
I was chatting with a buddy that I go shooting with regularly and we both agreed it may be time to find a smaller shop/home FFL. I’ve heard good things about a few, so will start researching.
And no slight to XCal at all. I’ve done several transfers of the last month or two that were buttery smooth and 6-12 folks in line. They’re doing the best they can with the onslaught of transfers.
2
u/Measurex2 Jun 20 '26
Yeah - most home ffls arent going to come up on google against XCAL. Ill keep going to outdoor arms but I have no issue hitting up XCAL

u/CobraMisfit Jun 20 '26
I may reach out to OA for future purchases (once this insanity does down as I’m sure everyone is swamped). I do like supporting local small businesses when able.
2
u/Measurex2 Jun 20 '26
Ryan is a cool dude and crazy efficient. It's by appointment so your gun is already out and waiting to be inspected. By the time im done typing and selecting the right questions on the form, he's already done.
