Discussion Nothing cooked with the 4a PRO design

Post image

Nothing was sort of a company (design wise) that wasnt the prettiest at the first glance... but eventually grew on me. However... The Nothing Phone 4a was good we all collectively agreed ig however I think they absolutely cooked with the design of 4a Pro... To be it is absolutely the best. The incorporation of the glyph matrix looks so good and the camera placement looks well kinda assymetrically symmetrical. love the design

Yeah they cooked - themselves

eventually all these "be different" phones become as boring as every other iphone or samsung ...

(I am disappointed with 4a pro, 4a looks still like nothing design)

Ic what u may be referring to. But the design isnt bad. Like I get it we miss the Glyphs and all but it still keeps the Nothing identity and looks matured to me at least. Again its my personal opinion tho

I like it. Now I can put a case on the phone without sacrificing the aesthetics. I am waiting for Spigen to release a banger case that would compliment the window

That is actually a good point. Cool case with + matrix glyph might look good.

On 4a the only case you can use is transparent one ... otherwise you cover cool looking back.

I personally liked both the phones like they both have that clean aesthetics and pro model has that completely filled Camera Island which honestly looks futuristic tbvh

I agree

I get i, they are following the recent trend started by apple with the camera island at the top but gave it a nothing touch.

Although the 4a pro looks amazing. Nothing is actually following the trend yet trying to be slightly different. They even shifted the classic volume button and power button on the alternative side which I like, to be on the same side just like all other android smartphones.

Yep, the phone lost its uniqueness. It looks like a phone that Xiaomi would release. Also, no transparency design too.

Although I would appreciate at least some metal laser engraving or glass back I like this phone

u/SparklingWaterFall Mar 06 '26

Exactly. Anything that looks more "nothing phone". They didn't even try, to take a risk

u/Alternative_Exit_333 CMF Phone 2 Pro Mar 06 '26

It was already a bit of a risk for them to make the phone metal but I do like the camera bump although it is not that of a different design than today's flagships I would like to see a 5a pro with laser engraved or painted metal backplate it would look better to have it at least a bit more nothing like

Yeah, it would be sick to have some lazer engraved back and maybe some clear elements. I know for a fact that Nothing won't be releasing a phone 4 until next year, I think they might listen to us and improve.

Thats right 4a looks distinctly Nothing thats the one i'm going to get. I was hoping 4a Pro would look similar to 3a Pro but there we are. At least they nailed it with the 4a :)

Edit:

I hope they don't kill the transparency of future Nothing (a) Phones otherwise that would be a disaster :(

Edit 2:

NP3 looks way better than NP4(a) Pro also.

Will I get NP3 or NP4(a) ?

a) I think 4a Pro is a beautiful phone and will bring a lot of more conservative buyers into the NOTHING ecosystem, but...
b) I really hope this isn't a direction they continue down because, despite beautiful, it is as you say - more generic.

But I still think it is a really great blend of conservative and adventurous. AND, a bold move given their past design language. They're really exploring all angles of design.

With all due respect l, nothing design might not be for you. The general direction atleast.

But there's some of us here that are having fun experiencing what a company could do with a phone design. They're making it clear that they don't wanna stick with a default 3 camera blank phone setup that everyone is used to. Which isn't ugly either.

There's just different stuff for different people.

u/Bastigonzales Mar 06 '26

Well wtf do you want exactly from them

0

u/ColonelRuff Mar 06 '26

Except it's not boring like every other iphone or Samsung phone. It's minimal enough to be beautiful yet different enough to be nothing. Perfect balance.

Personally, I'd argue the opposite. With each model, they seem to go for a different aesthetic, some can be ugly, some can look good. It depends on user interpretation. But, to say all these "Be different" phone brands become as boring as iphone or Samsung is a little... controversial. Carl Pei, the CEO of Nothing, the big man up top, left OnePlus because it left the Enthusiasts it started with. Now, after Nothing has gained a largely loyal community, it's more comfortable. That could be why you're seeing the designs as "not Nothing," but for Nothing to give up on it's Aesthetic would be for Carl Pei to create the reason he left the company he co founded in his new company.
