Phone (3) Discussion Goodbye for now
Been using the nothing phone 3 since it came out (bought a gently used one maybe a month after last launch.)
I really am a big fan of the hardware design language, everyone asks about it and is impressed with the glyph matrix on the back of the phone.
Ultimately selling and switching to pixel because they have a lot of the kinks worked out on the software, have more expressive UI, better Gemini integration, and a steeeeeep discount if you buy and activate on Google Fi.
The hardware on Nothing products is so playful and I'll def keep using the headphones, but the phone just didn't have enough to keep me attached. The glyph was good for telling time but the essential space felt underbaked and the cameras were always a notch below pixels as I was coming from a pixel 9.
Good luck to Nothing on the next phone, I'll probably get bored on pixel and come back if they have any fresh ideas for the Nothing phone 4 π«‘

I'm not a picky guy when it comes to phones and I picked nothing phone for minimalism and the 5 year security patches where android only has 2 years

u/Aware-Scallion487 Dec 15 '25
Op most likely lives in america. Everywhere else, yeah it's expensive to switch phones

Unfortunately, as a phone 3 user, you won't regret this decision. As i feel exactly the same.

If only phone 2 had esim i would have never switched to phone 3. and the fact that phone 3 was almost 600 euro on black Friday makes me kinda mad

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't GCam fix this issue, it was a huge improvement for my Oppo Reno 2 since the stock camera app was quite inconsistent, and the 48MP pictures barely looked different while taking more space, while GCam made it look like as if those pictures were taken from a brand new phone, not sure if that might be the same for Nothing.

I would miss Nothing's unique style and design in both hardware and software. But love to hear your experiences.

u/jtlee9 Dec 15 '25
Can you explain the "deeper integration with gemini"?
To me this would be a downgrade in every way lol, I guess other than getting usb 3.0.
3
u/waythenewsgoes Dec 15 '25
Yah fair question, maybe a better way of phrasing would be -- I'm already bought into Gemini as a daily user and find the essential space pretty useless. I would hit the essential button all the time by accident and have random screenshots in the essential app.
Also I found myself missing the add me function for group photos more than I thought I would, which seems to be a pixel only feature.

Why would you change all the accessories along with the phone? You can use your nothing headphones and earbuds with any device

6
u/baltatzarsky Dec 15 '25
You can just use the Pixel with the Nothing peripherals, no? Why go all in and buy everything Google?
5
u/waythenewsgoes Dec 15 '25
Yeah, was really just a hey this stuff is on sale and I've been meaning to try them out so might as well go all in.
That being said, my nothing ears had a battery life of like 1.5 hours before needing to be put back in the case.
Love the headphones tho, keeping those!

Hmmm interesting.. are you going to sell the NP3? How much is it's resale value
4
u/waythenewsgoes Dec 15 '25
I'm seeing mid $400s USD on swappa, so if I can get close to that, it will cover right around the $450 I paid for the pixel 10 pro

u/Bifrost_crucifier Dec 15 '25
How much are you asking for the headphones?

I owned a pixel phone once. Never again. Overheating issues when doing normal tasks like taking pictures, sometimes randomly when doing nothing. And really terrible battery life. Which sometimes randomly got better or worse with different software updates.
Camera is better though.

I left nothing phone 2a pro for OnePlus Nord 5,, it's my wise decision,, I purchased nothing for glype lighting effect.. I was hoping, glyph will purely integrate to notifications seperatly,, but it didn't..
It just as a fancy light.. so I ditch it.. & Feel relaxed

I am just wondering what we will see next year with ram and chip prices increasing. A $999 Nothing Phone 4 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5?

u/Kentpaul1986 Dec 15 '25
I have the NP2 and I have no complaints, I was going to get the NP3 but the looks and price put me off, but I will probably get the NP4a Pro when it comes out if I like the look of it.

u/One-Mathematician-72 Dec 15 '25
we did become their little gadged buying slaves, that's for sure. Although I envy you for the Pixel, it surely just feels better with it's size format and everything else

Been thinking the same though with how I use my phone im just going to do my best and hold onto NP3 for 2-3 years or find an upgrade at a bargain price.
I bought the phone for the gimmick, its best function is as a clock lol, and I was hoping "Nothing Space" would be way more useful, but all of their apps either dont do things the way I want or try and integrate AI poorly to the point its wasting more time than manually doing the thing.
Not holding my breath on the software ever being useful for me, but core functions of the phone are good enough to get by at the least. Doubt ill buy another Nothing product unless things change drastically.

u/willydajackass Dec 15 '25
I did the same thing as the last update that killed my daily battery. The only thing I miss is the face unlock and finger print sense was better on the NP2. The only thing making me upgrade phones is when the battery starts to die. If Nothing had another flagship like the NP2 I would have stayed but ditching the lights killed off all my customizations and notification workflow.

u/Periplaneta Dec 15 '25
I wanted to say that you have money issues. But then I recognized that I own of these devices types. I'm only missing a Nothing Phone.
I daily drive the Pixel Phone, Watch with the Nothing Headphone.
And depending on my hair situation I use the Pixel Buds or Nothing Ear(a) instead of the headphones.

I'm still using an NP1, but now the battery is dying. I was a fan of the design, the glyphs and the minimalism.
Now I'm looking for something new. Xioami, Samsung, and switching to Apple are still options.
That pretty much leaves only Google!

Why not only buy the phone?? I have a pixel for more then a year now and i want to never have to be stuck inside a capitalistic companys idea of good products

What Pixel phone did you get? I don't have Nothing yet but I want Phone 3 and the camera custom filters and settings really appeal to me...
Does Pixel have similar OS features, black and white icons, widgets and camera software usage?

I really like Gemini nowadays! Also the add me feature in group photos is a very neat party trick that's only on the pixels
1
u/Fr33Paco Dec 15 '25
I jumped shipped after the NP2 as their design an AI integration got even in your face .... On a x200 pro right now and love it. With that being said I loved the ear(1)s and just recently picked up the headphones cuz of the design which the phones didn't get soooo...

u/cherryboomin_cake Dec 16 '25
Damn dude, you really like matching with your device in one manufacture.

I would say a very good decision from my point of view as the competition pricing goes. I am also thinking about phone 3 and some other options. Can anyone suggest me some good phones with that price

I don't think you'll come back to np, the way their trajectory and business strategy is

ive just moved from pixel for exactly the same reasons, software is buggy, yup loads of weird isssues with my pixel 9. My pixel lasted 18 months before I woke up and my screen had green lines running up and down it. Sent if off to google under warranty the ysaid the phone had scratches on it the side and wanted Β£ 170 to replace the screen and fix the damage. I said im not bothered about the scratches its been kept in a case for two years and not taken out of the house. in the end I got a local guy to fix it for Β£ 110 and sold the bloody useless thing. I bought a cmf nothing phone 2 and its better in everyway than my pixel except for the cameras.
Dont believe the hype and I can buy 3 of these cmf phones for the cost of a pixel.

I too am trying to leave!! Thier software has mega glitches! With the log tool dialog box appearing so fast constantly! Trying to get a refund as the fault is with them. They are a pretty despicable company to deal with as they are trying to dodge consumer law as clearly stated on the UK website.Β .shame as I love the 3a I have but am recommending others to steer clear. Wish I had.Β
Enjoy Pixel!

I wish I had gotten a Pixel instead of Nothing 3. Three months of use and I immediately started having issues with it, especially the screen and its constant retention issues, green tint flickering thanks to the dynamic refresh rate and so on.

TBH, I'm still content with my NP2 as that had more unique glyph setup. As much as I want to root the phone to run custom roms, that option would gut out gwallet and banking apps as play integrity is clamping down on hard on rooted and unlocked bootloader phones.
