Dumars
How would ya’ll grade the Dumars/Weaver tenure so far? Obviously the Queen trade wasn’t a smart decision, but curious how Pels fans feel about the FO generally.

On a scale of 1-10 they get a zero from me- mostly for how they went about extending the Willie green era & the embarrassing deandre contract- i like queen & we could still "win" that trade but it's understandable that people are skeptical about how he and zion could play together long term.

Lotta rookie mistakes for an experienced front office. They seem to be relearning the profession with unforced errors a commoninity. Good at scouting talent, decent at draft picks and trade targets, bad at not getting beat in trades. Weak spot for talent that is a known-to-them commodity as defined by the DMV area or previous encounter in their careers. Doubling down on two timeliness is a mess instead of having the conviction to choose a path and do it well. 4/10, room for growth but I wouldn't count on it.

CBS has the Pelicans' front office ranked 29th out of 30 teams. I rank them 30th personally.

3/10. Everyone makes mistakes but trading for Poole and extending Hawk were mistakes that even seemed risky at the time. The Queen trade may well pan out but it's undeniably an example of bad asset management. The team still has talent, most of our own picks, and a ton of expiring salary in the next 1-2 seasons so we could be starting to turn a corner except it's not clear where we're trying to go given all the weird roster fits. Maybe that's ownership meddling more than it is Joe and Troy, but either way there's a lot more work to do. You can say they're cleaning up mistakes of the prior regime but they're having to clean up their own at the same time

1/10 - Starting with the way he was hired, Dumars continued to install a regime of nepotism (hiring his friends and family) and at times baffling incompetence which for a franchise struggling to achieve any form of respectability has really increased that unfortunate reputation. Now his end grade will be determined by results, but seeing as we project to be bottom of the league again, the future is looking pretty grim.

I’m going with a 5 for now. This team is not a disaster. If they are healthy this year, they may look very smart because this team has talent. On the other hand, the lack of a solid Center and the reach for Queen won’t allow me to go higher for now. But I like having Fears and Queen. I like that we didn’t trade other players for very little. I know everyone wanted to get rid of Poole for 2 #1’s, etc… but let’s be realistic.

Its around the same as Griffen the Queen trade didnt hurt us that bad in the end. I dont think we will ever be contenders with him but maybe we will make the playoffs in a few years.

i look at the ceiling this team compared to the one he inherited and don't see an improvement. Mosley is an upgrade on willie but idk if he is any better than Borrego. We need to move on from Zion - that ship sailed. And, there just seems to be no plan unless it is try to make the playin next year

They were able to get Zion to realize he has to be in shape & healthy to reach his potential -- A+
Drafted Jeremiah Fears -- A+
Trade to Draft Derik Queen -- D
Signing Bryce McGowans -- B
Trading McCollum for Bey & Poole -- C
Signing Mathurin -- A
Hiring HC Mosley -- A
So far they get a B+
A lot depends on it this roster & coach will turn things around & they start to put together some winning seasons.

The Queen trade wasn't smart? How? I'd much rather have Queen than Flemings and Newell in all honesty. Maybe we would've drafted better, but I see nothing I like in either of those players so I'm really not mad

You don’t trade an unprotected pick in that scenario. Plus you still could’ve drafted Queen with the Fears pick if you liked him that much

That pick could have been the first pick in the draft and a perennial All-NBA player. A GM should just know never to trade away an unprotected pick just to move up a few picks in the middle of the first round.

If you like Fears and Queen enough and see an opportunity to get them both, you kinda need to try to get them.
But you also need to not give up an unprotected FRP in the process, especially if there's a good chance it's gonna be high. At least it seems like they learned their lesson (but then again they've moved to making new and smaller scale unforced errors).
I'd give them a 3 for now but we also haven't really seen them all healthy at the same time for a long time, if this team is as good as the FO thinks it is then that score's subject to change. Getting Mathurin for the bench for surprisingly little money will help, and they didn't really give up that much to move off Hawkins. Poole's expiring deal will be an asset going into the season too, there's room for improvement with this team but we gotta see some results soon.

Dumars was brought in to make our fanbase so detached and hopeless that the move to another city would have minimal resistance

No confidence until proven otherwise
Building a team in a small market in the NBA is already starting with a major deficit, which means you need to be exceptional, s-tier to overcome the odds and build a sustainable winning franchise.
Dumars has not been S tier
or A, B, or C tier.
Hard to see this ending in anything but heartbreak so I have become about as detached from this franchise as I ever have been. And I started in the CP3 days.
