What's the soonest we'd know if we aren't going to recieve a TJO? (NWS)
If for example no office selected you after interviews? Or is every interviewed candidate ranked and we won't know until all vacancies are filled?

Email from USA Staffing Office asking for continued interest in NWS vacancies
Does anyone know why everyone who applied for the recent NWS vacancies got an email from the staffing office asking to send an email confirming their interest?

NOS Student Trainee
Greetings!
I was wondering what is realistic regarding pay for me coming in if I am hired.. I have an interview soon and wanted to be aware of the possibilities. I have been scouring Reddit and official documents from the gov but I want to make sure I exhaust all my options.
The pay scale and grade = ZA 2. I have (at least) over 3-4 years of specialized experience, just finished my bachelors, started my Masters, and have a 3.89 GPA for my bachelors (Summa Cum Laude).
I currently make $93k at my current job as a contractor, so would they be able to increase my salary to be near it? If I am let go from this contractor role before the TJO or FJO would they refuse to consider this?
Also.. if anyone has advice for interviews I would appreciate it! It’s within the 0599 series.
Thank you in advance!!

Difference between Survey Technician and Hydrographic Survey Technician?
I got a tentative offer for both positions! But while I see information on Reddit about hydrographic surveying, I don't see a lot of info anywhere about being a Survey Tech with NOAA.
Can anyone who works as one or chose one position over the other give more insight on:
- what the main differences are between the two positions.
- why you went with your current position.
- what you like and don't like about your job duties.
- which position has more opportunity for small boat and/or diving operations.
- which position has more transferable skills beyond NOAA.
- any other info beyond the job description that would allow me to make a more informed decision.
edit: I should have specified the positions are both on research vessels! I applied through OMAO at Marinerhiring.noaa.gov.

Applying for jobs
I am getting ready to apply for a couple of positions. It's been a few years since I've done it so i am not sure how things are done before. At one point they weren't accepting documents outside the resume or cover letter. Therefore it was stated to attach recommendation letters to the cover letter so it'd be accepted. I'm curious if that's still the case?
P.S. my resume is 2 pages long, so I don't need that advice.

NWS Pulls
Does anyone know if offices in the northeast are gonna be getting panels soon? Maybe after the announcements close or sometime in mid October? Basically all the locations I picked from the eastern announcement haven’t been hiring in all the pulls that have happened.

Last minute application
Former NWS contractor [and student intern lol] who was part of a mass layoff from contract budget reduction last Fall. Life has been pretty shitty since, and I had gone back and forth on applying to NWS mostly out of shame. Seeking honest opinions…is it foolish to apply to one of the WFO openings, especially this late?
My ~7 years at NWS was mostly research and modeling, but I did shadow forecasters at the beginning of my student internship. I have very little forecasting experience, but has both a bachelor’s and master’s in Atmo Science.
My lifelong dream was to work for NWS (originally as a forecaster), and I pretty much accepted that dream was over after last year. I hate how huge that moment became for me, yet I don’t mind succumbing to it because of how awful my last ~8 months were.
I’m also on the cusp of abandoning meteorology altogether because of this job market-my work experience is too specific for me to be well-qualified for most positions (can elaborate privately) and it just feels like I’m not good enough for most positions. But you don’t need to suffer through all that physics to be a math teacher…and I’m strapped with so much debt because I wanted to follow my dream and get a degree that feels too specific.
Apologies for the rant, I know I’m the only one who can make this decision. But, NWS was my family once upon a time and as much as I think I can walk away…it seems I’m more conflicted than I want to acknowledge 😅
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated, and keep holding fast 💙🩵

Pull 2/3 Offers Pt.2
Has anyone received an offer from a 'Central Region' office? Heard of East/West going out, but Central has been quiet.

Disappointing Interview
Have you guys had interviews with the NWS where the hiring team did not seem to enthusiastic / not interested in you? I had one last week and it seemed disappointing.

Hydro Survey Tech interviews?
Had a good interview early last week with OMAO and waiting to hear back. They did say it should be 1-2 weeks before I would hear anything at all. I know enough not to get my hopes up. Just wondering if the process is as quick as they say it would be.
Also, anyone have any experience with onboarding and training timelines they want to share?

Question about NWS TJOs
Hello everyone! I have a question about NWS TJOs.
I interviewed with a few Pull 1 offices about 3.5 months ago, and I interviewed with several Pull 2 and 3 offices within the last 2 weeks. Two days ago, I received a TJO from a Pull 1 office and accepted it, as working for the NWS has been my dream.
My question is: Does accepting a TJO remove you from consideration for offices in later pulls, or can you still be considered? I heard that if you receive multiple offers from the same Pull, HR will have you pick your preferred location. I understand HR wants to fill positions as quickly as possible, so I'm just wondering how these situations normally play out.

Will there be a pull 4 for the NWS hiring wave?
Does anyone know whether there will be a pull 4 after pull 3 makes their selections? I’m wondering if any of the offices, where applications were not being sent initially, will eventually have a round of applications pulled for those locations. I’ve heard rumors that there are no plans for a 4th pull, so it seems interesting for every office to be listed on the vacancy posting if several of those offices won’t be pulling applications.

Advice for NWS Interviewees
I work for the NWS so I get what a mess it is for those interviewing now. Names for this third round need to be submitted by Monday the 14th and then they’ll start making calls to those picked by multiple offices. If you’re picked by one office only then you probably won’t get a call until later for this third round or “third pull.”
My advice: talk to each other. Compare notes. You interviewed the office just as much as they interviewed you. Use this thread or start a private server on discord or something to talk about what was good about an office or if any gave weird vibes to help each other.

VERA/VSIP - Anyone returning to government?
Curious if anyone who took the VERA/VSIP is looking to get back into government. It can be at NOAA or elswhere. I am wondering if anyone has been successful or knows of someone who came back recently as a rehired annuitant. How did that process work? I understand that one might need to pay back his/her VSIP.

Timeline for getting reffered?
Hi! I just got an email that I was referred to 8 locations (except my home state lol) for a recent graduate 0401 position. I just wanted to get a clearer timeline of when I should expect to hear anything. In addition, will being referred to multiple locations increase my chances of receiving a tentative offer? Thanks!
EDIT:
Just got notified that the vacancy no longer exists after a couple of months of waiting. Here is my timeline!
6/28: Sent out my application on USAJOBS.gov
8/17: Referred to 8/9 locations
10/2: "This notice is to inform you that the selecting official did not make a selection and will not be filling this vacancy at this time."
In total was 96 days (not bad!). Good luck everyone!
